Chapter 5

Stepping out of the hotel, Ethan replayed everything that had just happened in his mind.

What had he done? How could he have thought about being with a woman he had just met, under these circumstances…

He shook his head. After all, it was his own overstep. Helping her with that favor might be his way of making up for it.

Moreover, this could be a perfect opportunity to get back at Dana.

Ethan smirked and dialed the phone number of Lilian, the CEO of Secret Company.

"Young Master Ethan, it's so late. What’s the matter?" Lilian's voice was soft and gentle.

"Lilian, I need you to make some adjustments on the names on the list." Initially, he had planned on making sure that Dana's company became one of Secret Company's biggest business partners, making sure that the company became one of the best, but unfortunately, Roseanne would have to take that spot.

"What adjustment, sir?" Lilian asked.

"Dana's name is on the list of business partners, is that right?" He asked just to confirm that it was included.

"Yes, sir,"

"I need you to replace that name. Milma company should take that spot," he informed. Lilian didn't bother to ask why. She immediately did as he said.

"Done. Is there anything else you would want me to do, sir?" She inquired.

"Yes, Lillian. I'm heading to my mini penthouse at Road 4. I need you to arrange a car and a tuxedo, one made of the finest fabric in the country. I'll be attending the commercial dinner party tomorrow." He informed.

"Oh my God. Finally, thank goodness that you'll be coming. I'll do all that you have said. But why go to your mini penthouse on Road 4 when you can go to your mansion at the heart of the city?" she inquired.

"I have my reasons, Lilian," he responded, nonchalantly.

"Okay, sir. Would you want me to personally receive you and also announce your identity to the public?" She asked.

"There's no need for you to receive me tomorrow, Lilian." He informed,

"Okay, sir," she responded before he ended the call.

Ethan inhaled deeply before walking towards Road 4. He had no penny with him to hail for a taxi, so he had to go on foot.

He would have asked Lilian to send me a ride, but his identity was still a secret, and if Lilian had sent him a ride, it would have caused awareness, as she would send one of his expensive cars with SUVs to accompany it.

The next day.

"Is everything in hand?" He asked Lilian over the car as he stepped into the Bentley that she sent to bring him to the dinner party.

"Yes," she responded.

"Alright then," Ethan ended the call, adjusted his tie, and cleared his throat.

On getting to the party, he stepped down from the car and brought his hand up to the line of his sight to check what the time was.

As he walked towards the entrance of the venue, he heard someone call his name from behind.

"Ethan Ford," Ethan turned to look behind him only for his eyes to fall on Roseanne.

She hastened her pace until she was standing right in front of him. "You look stunning," Ethan complimented.

"You must really like red," he added. Just like yesterday, she was in a red gown, but the shade of the red gown she saw today was brighter, and beautiful crystal stones were embedded on the corset of the dress.

"It's my signature color," she laughed.

"Thank you for the compliment, though. I got an invite at the last minute, and I know it was because of your help." She grinned.

As they spoke, a car drove into parking lot D, the one next to them.

Eric got down from the car and walked over to the other side to hold the door out for Dana.

The second she stepped down from the car, her eyes fell on Roseanne and Ethan, standing together.

"Rosanna and Ethan? How did those two end up together?!" Dana gritted her teeth in frustration.

"Who?" Eric looked up and saw a man and a woman standing at the company entrance.

"Isn't that your useless ex-husband and your business rival? Them?" Eric asked, puzzled.

"Could it be that Ethan was at the bar with Rosanna last night? No wonder Milma's performance has improved recently. Ethan must have stolen my business secrets!" Dana seethed with anger, already pinning crimes on Ethan that he hadn’t even committed.

"Don’t worry, Dana," Eric said calmly, flashing a confident smile. "The company didn’t send an invitation to Milma Company. Even if they came, it wouldn’t do them any good."

"Hah! So these two losers were planning to sneak in," Dana scoffed, lifting her chin arrogantly as she strode toward them.

"Well, well, who do we have here? The League of Losers?" Dana’s sharp, mocking voice rang out.

Hearing her, Ethan’s brows furrowed tightly.

"You asked me to come over," Belen repeated, winking at Rosanna to play along.Deciding to help him, she laughed. "Oh... I forgot... I was really stressed yesterday," she said.Meanwhile, Ethan sat at the table, eating his food quietly. "I'm certain you made these noodles, Rosanna. The aroma is divine," Belen said, salivating."I remember when you used to make this at home," he added, still salivating."Yeah, and you would criticize it." "You and Grandma," Rosanna uttered, causing Belen's eyes to immediately widen as he stood upright. He didn't want Ethan to bar him from benefits he could receive because of how he used to treat Rosanna, so he tried to cover it up with a laugh."That was only because we wanted you to get better at cooking it, and I'm glad you did. If it wasn't for our criticism, if anything was too much, I'm sure the carrots would be more than the meat, but look how generous you were with the protein." He muttered, licking his lips.Ethan smirked, still eating; he reac

Ethan threw his gaze from her face to his palm. "I don't want anyone to be worried about me, Rosanna; I'm fine." He said."You say you're fine, but you really don't look fine," she said, but Ethan was done with his conversation with her. If it was Cersei, he would have walked away, but he was trying to stay calm and to at least hear her out before leaving politely."That's not for you to decide. Let the doctor decide it. Besides, I'm fine, Rosanna. You're only overthinking for nothing," he said, getting to his feet.Rosanna subconsciously stepped back, feeling his intimidating aura again. "I have a flight to catch by 7am, and I really don't want to be late. I'll call you as soon as I arrive in the country."Rosanna was stunned; his words seemed like a bullet because travelling amid all this drama didn't really seem like a good idea."For real? And you're just informing me now?" Rosanna asked, watching her words, as she knew her place in his life.Ethan paused for a second and glanced

"Midnight report?" Ethan asked, surprised as he quickly glanced at his time."Wow... Past 12..." He muttered,"What? Where are you?" Cersei asked, sensing he wasn't home."I'm at the office. "What did you see, and why are you watching US midnight news instead of watching French news? You could get some ideas from here on how to run the business in your hands," he said, rubbing his eyes.He took the coffee cup to the coffee machine in his office, but unfortunately, something was wrong with it, and he couldn't brew his coffee."Well, who knows if anyone else gets kidnapped and you decide not to tell me. US news will!" He informed."No one will get kidnapped, Cersei. I've got everything in control.""You've got everything in control, Ethan, and yet there's news about your divorce and how unfair it is to the Guardo family," Cersei said, furiously. Before she left the country, she wanted everything to be under control, and now, just after some days of her departure, there's a mess already

"The case of my ex-wife?" Ethan murmured, wondering why the press has decided to pick up the matter now. He knew something was up but decided not to ponder on it for long, as it was not his priority."Alright," he said and dismissed her. The day went by very quickly; Ethan was so buried in the many files he had to sign that he didn't pay attention to the time.A few minutes before closing hours, there was a knock on Ethan's door. The door opened, and his secretary walked in. Hesitating, she said, "Sir... Miss Dana is here to see you." Ethan paused, a smile slowly spreading across his lips as he realized, "So this is Dana's doing," he murmured. He hadn't thought much about the whole paparazzi drama because he had important things to handle and most definitely did not want to entangle himself with anything."Should I send her in, sir?" His secretary asked, waiting for a response.Letting out a long sigh, Ethan glanced at his time and said, "Yes.""Okay, sir."In less than 30 seconds,

She said.Ethan didn't pay attention to her; he got into the building and caught sight of Lilian walking out of the elevator."How did the reporter know I was coming?" He inquired,"I don't know, sir. She's been here since yesterday, and we've tried to keep her out of this property." Ethan narrowed his eyes, walking towards the elevator while Lilian trailed behind him. They got upstairs to a big office, one reserved for Ethan. "Find out why that girl is standing there. Selena placed the burger back on the table, shifted her gaze to Ethan, and asked, "Why did you bring me here? Because apart from the taste of their burger, I don't see anything impressive about this place.""And I'm certain I've tasted better burgers, and I'm only surprised because I didn't expect a local place like this would be able to make such good burgers." She informed him, causing a sly smile to form on Ethan's face."Have you seen the price of the burger?" He asked, causing Selena to quickly pick the menu up again and glance through it. "Oh my God..." She paused, shutting her eyes and then reopening them, as she couldn't believe the prices on the menu."This isn't even 10 percent of the money I spend on burgers." She said, glancing at Ethan and then the burger before throwing the menu to the table, "Did you bring me here to eat cheap food?" She asked, her mood changing from shock to displeasure."No." Ethan responded calmly,"There are mind-blowing restaurants in the city, bu
