Chapter 6

Rosanna was just as annoyed by Dana’s tone. She frowned and said, “This isn’t your private party. Do you really think you have the authority to decide who can and can’t be here?”

Dana chuckled, clearly amused by Rosanna’s words. With a smug expression, she said, “Maybe I don’t, but my date does.”

“Let me introduce you—Eric Johnson, senior manager of Secret Company. And you two, skulking around here without an invitation, who knows if you’re trying to sneak in?”

“Who said we don’t have an invitation?” Ethan said coldly. He stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Rosanna.

“Ethan! We just signed the divorce papers yesterday, and now you’re already with her?” Dana accused, her voice full of fury.

Ethan remained calm. “Dana, you just said it yourself—we signed the divorce papers yesterday. So whoever I’m with now is none of your business.”

“You—!” Dana was livid. Her anger boiled over as she snapped, “You must’ve been fooling around with her long before this! And I bet you stole my company’s trade secrets to help her!”

“You’d better think carefully,” Dana sneered, her voice dripping with malice. “Now that we’re divorced, you’re useless to this woman. But if you’re willing to be a witness and admit you stole my company’s secrets for Rosanna, I might be generous enough to keep you out of prison.”

Ethan couldn’t help but laugh at her absurd accusation. “Are you insane? Your imagination is wild. Rosanna and I just met yesterday—not that you have any right to talk, cheating wife.”

Dana’s expression darkened. She forced herself to remain composed and scoffed, “Hmph, I don’t have time to argue with two losers. The security team will be here any second to throw you out.”

Ethan smirked and shook his head. “I already told you—we have an invitation.”

"You're kidding yourself. There's no way you have an invite."

"You know what? Let's not argue, we can go to the gate and show our invite to them." Roseanna suggested.

"Oh, that's too boring. There should be a bet," Dana paused, thinking of what the bet should entail.

"Whoever doesn't get past that gate would go on their knees and admit their mistake to the other party," Dana suggested.

"Alright then," Roseanna agreed.

They walked towards the entrance of the venue. Eric glanced at Ethan, expecting him to feel tense, but Ethan was calm.

Dana boldly showed the security standing at the entrance her invite; they checked up her name on the list and granted her access almost immediately.

Rosanna confidently walked toward the entrance and pulled an invitation from her bag. Ethan had helped her get it earlier, and she trusted that, given his deep connections with Secret Company, he wouldn’t hand her a fake invitation.

“This invitation…” The security guard looked at it with a hint of hesitation.

“Is there a problem?” Rosanna asked calmly.

“Hah! Rosanna, don’t tell me you forged an invitation!” Dana sneered.

At first, when she saw Rosanna produce an invitation, Dana had felt a flash of anxiety—had Rosanna actually managed to get one?

But then, noticing the security guard’s doubtful expression, her confidence returned.

“There seems to be an issue with your invitation. May I have your name, please?” the security guard asked.

“Rosanna. Rosanna Milma,” she answered, feeling a slight wave of nervousness.

Had her information been wrong?

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but your name is not part of our list." He said, still double-checking the list.

A smirk immediately became visible on Dana's face, and she didn't fail to seize the opportunity to insult Roseanna.

"Look who's going to go on their knees now. I knew that you were all mouth and no action. But at least you should have stayed home to avoid this embarrassment," Dana said, smirking mischievously.

She was mostly excited that Roseanna would go on her knees in front of everyone and admit to her wrong; she had her hands crossed as she closely waited for it to happen.

Meanwhile, Roseanna was confused. "Can you check again? This ticket isn't forged," she said, hoping that their eyes mistakenly skipped her name.

"Don't give yourself false hopes; your name is not part of the list." Dana said.

"Oh, look at you. You really can't handle the shame that comes with it, right?" As she stopped, the security guard paused for a second, taking her ticket from her; his eyes fell on a silver crested dragon badge at the side of the invite

"Where did you get the invite from?" The security guard asked bluntly, annoying Roseanne.

"What kind of question is that? You heard when I said that I received my invite at the very last minute. It came in yesterday," she said, starting to regret why she came here.

She turned to Ethan, hoping that this wasn't a planned conspiracy between him and his ex wife, Dana to humiliate her.

After all, she had crossed paths with Dana thousands of times, and she knew how desperate and cunning Dana could be.

"Haha! Rosanna, a forged invitation? I can't believe you even thought of that! I think Secret Company should permanently remove people like you from their list of potential collaborators. Don't you agree, darling?" Dana couldn’t help but laugh, mocking her.

"This can’t be!" Rosanna was stunned.

Ethan frowned, about to speak, when Eric interrupted.

"As a senior manager at Secret Company, I can authenticate the authenticity of this invitation," Eric said proudly, taking the invitation from the security guard. He flipped it over casually and then sneered.

"Clearly, this thing is fake! We should seriously consider putting Miss Rosanna on our blacklist!" Eric announced loudly.

"This... this can’t be!" Rosanna gazed at Ethan. She trusted him, but it seemed like things weren’t going the way she expected.

"So it’s fake. No wonder I thought this invitation looked a bit strange compared to the others," the security guard chimed in, now mocking her as well.

"Wait a second, what gives you the right to say this invitation is fake?" Ethan spoke calmly. He was sure Lilian would never issue a fake invitation.

Eric snorted, raising the invitation in his hand. "Every invitation from Secret Company has a badge, the company’s emblem—a silver bear."

"But this one has a golden dragon as the emblem. Your forgery skills are too low!"

Rosanna woke up with Ethan the next day. Ethan was sitting next to her, still in the tuxedo he wore the previous day for the banquet."Have you been sitting here?" Rosanna asked. "Yes... How are you feeling now? Better?" He inquired."Yeah, I'm good." She responded. The nurse walked in some minutes after with some food and water. Apparently, there was a camera in the room that the nurse could use to monitor her and see when she needed anything; it was part of the VIP services in the hospital. After Rosanna ate, Ethan knew he had to leave her under the care of the nurse. He had previously informed Lilian that he would have time for all the meetings and requests she talked about."I have to go now," Ethan said, getting to his feet."If you need anything, you can give me a call, and I can drive down," he informed her and kissed her forehead before leaving. After exiting the hospital premises, he turned on his phone, and the first call he got was from Antonio, the leader of Los Lobos."H
