Chapter 9

"Wow, I can't wait to finally see the owner of this great company," Dana said, sounding so excited. Every single person was.

"When he comes, I really hope to meet him," she said, smiling sheepishly.

"That's not a problem at all. Once he's here, I can take you to him!" Eric informed, causing the smile on Dana's face to broaden. She was excited and already planned a party in her head to celebrate when she gets home as one of Secret Company's business partners.

"Then, I'm sure we can ask him to investigate the badge that Ethan has." She said, making sure that Roseanna could hear her.

"When he finally finds out that the badge was stolen or fake, I'm certain that they'll be in great trouble." She added, smiling mischievously.

"Decorum." The host said, causing the room to turn quiet.

"Here are the names of companies that Secret Company would be cooperating with." She paused, holding out the paper for better reading access.

"Dominick Company. Fins Line Company. Double Tech company. D&D..." As she called the name, Eric placed his hand on Dana's thigh, reassuringly, "Don't worry, your company name is surely on that list."

On hearing this, she turned to Roseanna and smiled triumphantly.

"And now, the last name on my list is..." The host paused while Dana swallowed hard, patiently and eagerly waiting to hear her company's name on the list.

"Milma company." She added, and the whole room started to applaud and congratulate those that could make it to the list.

It was surprising to everyone that Dana's name didn't make it to the list. A lot of people were certain. Especially when the host got to the last name on her list, everyone anticipated to hear Dana's company name, but unfortunately, another name was called.

Roseanna immediately cheered up and got to her feet. She was initially nervous, but now was her time to triumph.

She turned to Dana and flashed a smile of mockery on her face.

Dana's face immediately turned pale. In shock and rage, she turned to Eric, furrowing her brows, "What the hell is happening here?" She asked.

Eric was stunned as well. He was so sure that Dana's name was part of that list.

"Say something, Eric," Dana gritted her teeth, trying to control her temper because she desperately wanted to throw a tantrum.

Eric immediately caught sight of Will. "Excuse me for a minute," he said, leaving Dana alone.

He had bribed Will a lot, hoping that Dana would make it to the list. Will had reassured him that her name would be there because he believed he didn't really have to do anything as Lilian had received orders from the mysterious boss that he wanted Dana's name to be part of the list.

He didn't inform Eric about this because of the money he received from him; he also wanted to take the credit for helping him, but unfortunately, her name wasn't there.

"Will, why was Dana's name not added to that list?" Eric asked in a rage.

In fact, Will had no power to decide what name was added or removed from the list of cooperating companies. To Will, deceiving Eric for his money wasn't hard. It wasn't hard because Dana was already part of the list of companies cooperating with the secret company, but now, he started to wonder if there was another hidden list.

"Look, I have no idea why her name isn't on the list." He paused, noticing Eric's expression had turned serious.

"I went to the CEO's office yesterday at noon, and I saw the list on her table. Dana's name was on it. I'm certain that the so-called man you claim to know that's with the supreme badge must have had something to do with this."

Eric paused, thinking of the odds of what Will just said.

"I don't understand; the holder of the badge has no power to determine the names on the list, right? There's no way he must have done that," Eric said, being rational.

"Yes, you're right about that, but for him to have that kind of badge, you should know that he would be able to deceive the host into modifying the list," Will was being cunning with his words.

"You may be right because Milma Company is not supposed to be part of that list, but surprisingly, it is! I'm sure Ethan has something to do with this," he concluded.

"I think I'll need to question her," Will said.

"You're right," Eric added, following Will.

The host had dropped the mic and was heading to her seat when Will said, "Did you make any mistake in the name you just called?"

"Mistake? What do you mean?" She asked, letting the smile on her face be replaced with a stern look.

"You must have made a mistake in the list, and such a low-level mistake could not be made on such an occasion." He said.

"I'm sure the list was modified. And I'm certain that it's someone who holds the supreme badge that thinks he could do whatever he wanted that deceived you into modifying it, am I right?" Will said, causing her to furrow her brows, confused.

"Because the company had come to an agreement and had selected the company names that should be in the list, but it was changed all of a sudden?"

"Mr. Will Port, I'll advise that you take back your word, apologize, and head back to your seat."

"Why should I do that when the originally cooperating company that should be number 10 should be Dana's company?"

This instigated everyone in the hall to murmur discreetly with themselves.

"Can a company as big as Secret make such a mistake? It's a low-level mistake that shouldn't be made on this kind of occasion."

"They're organized, aren't they? Or was it really modified like this man said?" Their whispers fell into the host's ear, causing her face to turn red.

"The list hasn't been changed!" She exclaimed.
