LISA'S POV

Lisa’s chest heaved as she leaned against the wall, trying to calm her racing heartbeat. The words Ray had spoken still echoed in her ears, dragging at her nerves like claws.

"You’ll see soon enough..."

Her jaw tightened as she forced herself to stand tall, but the tension in her body betrayed her. She caught the first maid’s eyes and snapped,

"Get me my laptop."

The maid didn’t dare ask questions. She darted off, slippers whispering against the marble floor, and returned quickly with the sleek silver device. Lisa snatched it from her hands, flipping it open as she stormed to the dining table.

Her fingers clicked sharply against the keys, each sound a violent outlet for the storm raging inside her. She opened Oscar’s financial files, his statements, the Oakford investments tied to him. Her gaze swept across numbers, percentages, loans, and shares.

Everything looked perfect. Too perfect.

The balance sheets gleamed, the charts rose, and the figures carried no flaws.

"Lisa," he greeted smoothly, tossing his keys onto the table. "Still awake?"Her eyes narrowed. "It’s past midnight."He shrugged out of his jacket, draping it carelessly over the chair. "You know how it is. Meetings run late. Opportunities don’t wait for daylight."Lisa studied him carefully. His ease, his charm, it was his weapon, one he wielded like a blade. Normally, it calmed her. Tonight, it didn't do much. She folded her arms. "And what kind of opportunity kept you from answering my calls?"Oscar paused for a fraction of a second, barely noticeable, before pouring himself a drink. "Calls? Ah." He sipped, sighing with satisfaction. "My phone died. You know I don’t keep it charged long enough."Lisa’s lips tightened. A simple excuse, too simple."Convenient," she said coolly.Oscar chuckled, setting his glass down. "You sound like my old professor, suspicious of every shadow. Relax, Lisa. I was working. For us."She tilted her head, voice edged with sarcasm. "For us?""Yes." He l

Ray’s pulse hammered in his ears, drowning out the faint music still spilling from the club. He squeezed the phone so tightly his knuckles whitened, gaping at the dead screen as if he could will Aurora’s voice back.Daddy... they won’t let me go.The words replayed like a knife carving into his chest. He didn’t think. He moved, taking the envelope with him as he tore through the velvet curtains and into the club’s blinding glow.Everything that led him to that moment meant nothing. All of it, the jeering, the ridicule, the humiliation, meant absolutely nothing now.Aurora was in danger. His whole world felt like a tornado had hit it.He shoved past the crowd. A waiter began, "Sir, your..." but Ray’s expression cut the words off. No one dared stand in his way.The night air slammed into him outside."Car. Now," Ray ordered. His driver startled, fumbling keys, but Ray had already yanked the door open and slid inside."Lisa’s house. Don’t stop for anything."His driver nodded and floored

Ray’s hand lingered on the velvet curtain as the voice echoed in the private lounge.“Raymond Carter,” he said again, this time, dragging the words. The sound of his full name felt heavy, like it carried years of dust and secrets. Slowly, his eyes adjusted to the dim light, and the man before him stepped forward. He was tall, lean, dressed in a simple dark leather jacket and black pants, his presence filled the room without needing words. His face had lines and scars carved by time and survival, and his eyes, piercing, calculating, almost predatory, seemed to cut through everything they landed on.Ray’s gaze narrowed slightly. He knew that face. Not personally, but by reputation. And especially not when he wasn't who Ray came to meet. "Karl Mercer..."The name came out steady, though it was laced with both recognition and suspicion.Karl gave a faint, crooked smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. "So the gossips still remember me. Good. I thought I had been buried with the rest of t

After the meeting with Lisa, a sense of satisfaction settled on Ray as his driver drove him to the sovereign club.A smirk lined his lips as he recalled the disbelief and dread Lisa felt at the same time as his car pulled into the driveway of the club.Ray stepped onto the polished steps of the club, echoes of wealth and influence brushed against him as he stepped out of his car. The sovereign club was the club for the wealthiest of the wealthiest in Grove City. It's for the one percent rich, where celebrities, politicians, and the rich are involved in their dealings. Just anyhow people can't even get through the entrance as they would need to have 100 million dollars in savings, just to get a membership card.A security guard approached, his posture rigid, eyes scanning him with measured scrutiny as he reached the entrance. "Sir, membership card, please. Entry requires verification."Ray reached for his jacket pockets. Empty. He froze for a second, checking again to be sure."I... l

“The man you thought you buried.”The words didn’t leave when he spoke them. They clung to the air, heavy, and suffocating, pressing down on Lisa until her knees nearly gave way. Her hands clutched the edge of her desk, her knuckles turned white, as if the polished wood were the only thing keeping her from collapsing. For once, the untouchable CEO wasn’t the flawless queen of Oakford Empire anymore. She wasn’t the woman who silenced boardrooms with a single glare. In that moment, Lisa looked cornered, like prey forced to face a predator. Her lips trembled. "Y-you..." Her voice cracked. "This... this can’t be real."Ray didn’t answer. He stood there, calm, his silence a weapon sharper than any blade. It made her squirm, it forced her mind to do the work she wanted desperately to avoid. This was exactly what he had wanted. Adrian’s arrival wasn't a coincidence, it was a move placed long before tonight. A whisper here, a call there. Pull one string, and Adrian would come running, eager t
