In just 15 minutes, Simon arrived at a modest apartment building. He quickly scanned the directory for Apartment 45 and found it. By the time he reached the door, he was panting heavily.

He knocked twice. A gentle voice called from inside, “Who’s there?”

“It’s Simon,” he hurriedly answered.

A svelte, light-skinned woman opened the door and asked, “Simon from where?”

Simon scanned the nurse and said, “I’m Mrs. Helen’s son. Is my mother with you?”

The nurse’s facial expression shifted instantly as she processed his words. “So, you’re the son who abandoned his terminally ill mother for six months,” she said, her voice dripping with disdain. “Do you even know what your mother went through? She couldn’t access a kidney transplant or surgery and had to survive on drugs that I managed to obtain with my meager salary. These drugs only alleviated her pain, not her illness.”

She continued, her voice growing more bitter, “Do you have any idea of the sleepless nights she endured? The emotional pain and breakdowns? I’m sorry, but you don’t deserve to be called her son.”

Simon felt the sting of her words, but the nurse’s expression softened slightly. “Though I don’t know much about what led to your actions, I’ll allow you to see your mother. She’s currently sleeping in her room. I’m on my way out to work now.”

With that, the nurse gave him a final, disapproving look before leaving.

Simon walked slowly into the house, the weight of the nurse’s words hitting him hard. He dragged his feet to the bedroom and found a fragile-looking woman lying in bed. The sight of his foster mother, who seemed to have aged 20 years more, filled him with sorrow. Tears welled up in his eyes as he fell to his knees, crying uncontrollably.

Perhaps it was the sound of his tears or  his presence, but his mother stirred. In a fragile, hoarse voice, she asked, “Simon, is that you? Where have you been? What happened to you?”

Simon burst into tears again, repeating his apologies as he laid his head on his mother’s lap. “Mother, I don’t know. I’m just so sorry.”

His mother, her voice soft and comforting, said, “Don’t worry. As long as you’re back, what you’ve been through doesn’t matter to me anymore.”

Simon said, “Mom, I went through so much.” He began recounting everything that had happened to him: how Ash and her family had betrayed him, his time in prison, and his naivety.

His foster mother listened intently, her face a picture of empathy. “Don’t worry,” she said soothingly. “It isn’t your fault. It’s normal to love. They were the ones who betrayed you.”

Simon felt comforted by her words and eventually fell asleep, exhausted from his emotional outpouring. When he woke up, his mother was fast asleep beside him.

Deciding to clear his head, Simon took a stroll through the neighborhood. The calm and warmth of the nurse’s house made him feel comfortable, and he realized he had forgotten to ask for her name.

Lost in thought about the Katherine family and how he would make them pay, Simon walked absentmindedly down the street. Distracted, he didn’t notice a speeding luxury car approaching. When he finally saw it, it was too late. He braced himself for impact, expecting pain and being on the floor.

To his astonishment, he remained standing, unharmed. A middle-aged man emerged from the car, looking relieved.

“Young Master Simon!” the man exclaimed.

Simon, still in shock, recognized the man as Mr. Beckley, the butler of the Heathrow family. “Who’s your young master?” Simon asked harshly.

Mr. Beckley responded, “Young Master, we know the Heathrow family has wronged you. Please, listen.”

Simon cut him off, his voice filled with anger. “So why are you here? After sending my parents and me out of the family house over a misunderstanding, which led to my parents’ deaths. Do you have any idea how my life has been since that unfortunate incident ?”

Mr. Beckley bowed deeply. “We understand your feelings and thoughts. The patriarch of the family has been sick and sorrowful since you and your parents left. He has been waiting and searching for you. I know nothing we say can bring back your parents, but here’s an unlimited black card with your monthly allowance of $100,000,000.”

He continued, “Additionally, as you’re the only heir of the Heathrow family, we are purchasing the largest company in the area, Entraa Inc, and giving it to you as a small gift.”

Simon stared at Mr. Beckley, disbelief etched on his face. “Don’t think I’ve forgiven or forgotten what your family did to me because of these petty gifts.”

Mr. Beckley bowed again and left, handing Simon his business card. “Feel free to call me if you need anything.”

After Mr. Beckley departed, Simon could hardly believe the turn of events. $100,000,000? A multi-billion-dollar corporation? He rushed to the nearest ATM to check the balance on the card, confirming that it was not a dream. If the Heathrow family could throw around $100 million as a monthly allowance, their wealth must be astronomical.

Laughing hysterically, Simon thought of how Ash and her family would face the consequences of their actions. But first, he needed to ensure his mother received proper treatment.

He hurried home to find his mother and the nurse eating dinner. Before Simon could speak, the nurse stood up. “I’m so sorry for my outburst earlier, Mr. Simon. I didn’t know the circumstances that led to your actions. Your mother explained everything to me. I’m truly sorry. Also, I’m Cass.”

Simon quickly responded, “It’s fine. I understand. I would have reacted the same way or worse if I were in your shoes. Let bygones be bygones. I also want to say a huge thank you, Ms. Cass.”

He turned to his mother with a smile. “Mom, we can finally get you treated. You’ll have your surgery and transplant tomorrow.”

His mother looked concerned. “Simon, what have you done now? Please don’t do anything reckless or rash.”

Simon reassured her, “Don’t worry, Mom. I haven’t done anything illegal or inappropriate.”

To Ms. Cass, he said, “Please get my mother ready for tomorrow.”

Afterwards, Simon stepped outside for some fresh air. He called Mr. Beckley, saying, “I need you to arrange the best hospital for my foster mother’s kidney transplant and surgery as soon as possible.”

Mr. Beckley responded with a curt, “Yes, Young Master.”
