CHAPTER 9: The Reunion

The 1st Commander, Kalvin, went with the two soldier-spies to the place where the others were hiding in a tent in the forest.

When the 2nd Commander and the 2 Heroes and the 10 soldiers who were inside the tent saw the 1st Commander, they were completely shocked.

They thought he had been killed long ago.

For a whole year, they thought he was dead.

They were so happy to see him alive that they ran and hugged him. The 2nd Commander, who was his best friend since childhood, cried with happiness.

"We thought you were killed! We thought the Demon King killed you!" his best friend cried.

The 2 Heroes, Sung and Adrian, stepped forward and asked him seriously, "What happened to you and your 100 soldiers and your people?"

Kalvin's face became sad. He told them the truth. "When we left the Capital, we were 100 soldiers. 50 soldiers were killed in the battle. Only 50 of us remained as prisoners."

The 2 Heroes, the 2nd Commander, and all the soldiers in the tent became very angry when they heard that.

"We want to kill the Demon King and destroy this kingdom and rescue you and the other 49 soldiers and our people!" the 2nd Commander shouted.

But Kalvin quickly stopped them.

"No! Wait! Now he has changed!" Kalvin said loudly.

Everyone in the tent went silent and looked at him.

"When I first saw the Demon King, I also thought he was cruel. He was a destroyer, with no mercy. He killed 50 of my soldiers without any mercy. I hated him more than anyone," Kalvin said.

"But when I saw him again... he had become so kind. He has an honest voice now, he has emotion in his eyes, and he told us again and again that all demons and humans will be equal in his eyes. And he kept his promise. He gave us freedom."

"We don't want to leave this kingdom anymore because we feel safe here. We have a house, we have good clothes, and the food is very nice. Our children go to school with demon children. Did you know all of us got a job here? Some of us became ministers, some became teachers, some became farmers, some work in the library, and I am now the leader of the main gate."

Everyone in the tent was shocked to hear that.

The Hero Sung asked, "What about the dungeon and the slave market? Where are our people kept?"

Kalvin smiled. "There is no dungeon anymore. There is no slave market. He hates slaves. He hates war. That's why he changed this entire kingdom. Did you know one of our soldiers now works as a minister in the palace? The Demon King respects him so much because he is kind and he listens to every idea we give him. He treats us like family."

That shocked them even more.

Hero Adrian asked, "Will you lead us into the kingdom? We want to see it with our own eyes."

Kalvin agreed.

The 2 Heroes, the 2nd Commander, and the soldiers all changed into normal clothes, like tourists. The 1st Commander took them into the kingdom.

The moment they entered, the 2 Heroes and the others were shocked to see how beautiful the kingdom was. Bright lights, clean streets, flowers everywhere, and humans and demons walking together.

Kalvin took them to the place where the dungeon used to be.

The 2 Heroes asked, "What is this place? It looks like a park."

Kalvin said, "This was the dungeon."

They were frozen. They couldn't believe it.

His best friend, the 2nd Commander, asked, "What is this room? It is so bright and beautiful."

"This is the room where the Demon King killed the 50 soldiers," Kalvin said in a low voice. "But you will be shocked when you see how it has changed now."

He smiled and took them inside.

When they walked inside, they were completely shocked to see a beautiful garden, not a torture room.

He told them, "It has a hot spring inside now."

They were shocked and excited. They wanted to try the hot spring. Kalvin took them and they all took a bath in the warm hot spring. They felt so fresh and relaxed.

After that, he took them to the dressing rooms and they wore new, beautiful clothes.

As they walked around, they saw both humans and demons laughing together and respecting each other. No one was fighting.

His best friend asked, "Kalvin, where is your home now?"

Kalvin took them to his home. They were shocked to see a big and beautiful house and a big field behind it where both demons and humans were working together as farmers.

Soon, the other 49 soldiers saw the Heroes and ran to them happily. They took them to their own homes. When the 2 Heroes walked inside the houses, they were shocked to see such beautiful rooms.

They sat down and talked with the 49 soldiers and laughed with them.

The 2nd Commander asked them, "Please come back to the Capital Kingdom with us."

But they all shook their heads.

"We don't want to go back," one soldier said. "We all swore to protect the Demon King. This is our home now."

The 2 Heroes listened carefully to all of them. As Kalvin told his story, Hero Sung wrote everything down as a report for King Rin. He wrote every single word.

At last, the 2 Heroes and the others said to Kalvin, "Please take us to meet the Demon King. We want to see him."

Kalvin nodded. He went to find Vane, and Vane agreed to take them to meet the Demon King.
