Morning news exploded across every screen in the city.

Three major production companies suddenly lost their funding. Olivia Hart's upcoming movie quietly lost its distributor. Boardrooms lit up with panic calls.

"Who is pulling out?" one executive shouted into his phone. "This deal was locked yesterday."

Marcel sat in the private suite watching it all unfold on multiple screens. Marcus munched on breakfast beside him, fork halfway to his mouth.

"Bro, you destroyed her career before she even woke up," Marcus said.

Marcel calmly sipped his coffee. "I did not destroy it. I just stopped protecting it."

Marcus paused. "That sounds worse."

Aurora walked in holding a tablet. She stood close to Marcel and showed him the full structure of Olivia's career network. Every investor, every sponsor, every hidden dependency appeared clearly.

"She is not powerful," Aurora said. "She is maintained."

Marcel studied the screen. "So we remove the maintenance."

Aurora smiled slightly. "Now you are learning how the world actually works." She paused, voice softening. "You think like me now."

Marcel looked at her. "Good. Keep showing me more."

Later that day in the tight elevator, silence wrapped around them. Aurora reached up and adjusted Marcel's tie. Her fingers lingered a little longer than necessary. Marcel noticed the warmth.

"You do not do that for everyone," he said.

Aurora replied softly. "No." Another beat passed. "Only for people I do not want to fall apart."

Marcel looked at her differently now. Not as system-created. Not assigned. Something real stirred between them. The elevator stopped but neither moved right away.

The system activated in Marcel's vision.

[REVENGE PROGRESSION TRIGGERED]

Emotional influence detected.

Host stability increasing.

Corporate fear index rising.

Reward unlocked: Shadow Acquisition Rights. Media Control Expansion. Two hundred billion pending.

Marcel did not react strongly anymore. Power felt normal now.

Marcus watched him from the side. "Bro, you are getting used to this too fast."

Marcel answered quietly. "I had nothing for twenty six years. Now I have leverage."

Marcus rubbed his neck. "Just do not forget who you were before all this money."

At home Olivia stared at the news on her phone. Companies were backing out of her project one by one. Jake paced behind her trying to reassure.

"It is just business delays," Jake said. "Nothing to worry about."

Olivia shook her head. "No. This feels personal. Like someone is targeting me on purpose."

Her phone rang with an unknown number. She stared at it but did not pick up. "I do not need more bad news today."

Marcel walked into the secret shareholder meeting with Aurora at his side. Hostile executives blocked the entrance at first. They did not recognize him fully yet.

One older man laughed. "Some kid with money thinks he can sit here?"

Marcel calmly placed a folder on the table. Inside was proof he owned controlling interest.

Silence dropped over the room.

Aurora stepped forward. "He does not think he can sit here. He already owns the room."

Boardroom chaos broke out. Security tried to intervene. Marcus whispered from behind Marcel. "Bro I miss when our biggest problem was rent."

One hostile executive sneered and insulted Lily indirectly. "People like your sister always end up..."

Marcel stood instantly. The room temperature seemed to drop. He walked up slowly until he stood inches away. Aurora watched carefully with no fear, only observation.

"Finish that sentence," Marcel said calmly.

The man hesitated. His face paled. The system flashed faintly in Marcel's vision. Fear generated. No physical violence happened but everyone in the room now understood. Marcel was dangerous even when still.

The executive sat down fast. "I apologize. It will not happen again."

That night on the private rooftop with city lights sparkling below, Aurora stood beside Marcel. She spoke quietly.

"You are changing."

Marcel kept his eyes on the view. "I do not know if I am changing or just becoming honest."

Aurora stepped closer. "Which version do you think I like?"

Marcel turned slightly toward her. For the first time he looked at her like she was not part of the system. "I do not think you were meant to like any version."

A pause stretched between them. Aurora whispered, "That is where you are wrong." She touched his hand. This time he did not pull away.

In an unknown underground facility the mysterious man watched Marcel's progress on the screens. Corporate takeovers, Olivia losing sponsors, Aurora's emotional shifts all played out.

"He is adapting faster than expected," the man said with a smile.

Another voice asked, "Should we eliminate Olivia to stabilize the system response?"

The man shook his head. "No. Let him finish his attachment phase. It makes the break more satisfying."

Olivia received a final invitation to a high profile industry gala. The text message read, Your presence is required. New investors will be announced.

She hesitated while reading it. Jake leaned over her shoulder.

"This could fix everything," Jake said. "Go show them who you are."

Olivia forced confidence into her voice. "I am still the face of this industry."

Cut to gala night. The massive crowd buzzed under bright lights and constant camera flashes. Marcel arrived first with Aurora beside him. Marcus trailed in disbelief.

"I feel like I am in a villain origin story," Marcus muttered.

Marcel answered calmly. "You are."

Olivia arrived shortly after. She saw Marcel and froze in place. The host stepped onto the stage.

"Tonight we welcome the new controlling stakeholder of the entire East Media Alliance."

A pause. The spotlight turned. Not on Olivia. Not on the executives. On Marcel.

The crowd gasped loudly.

Olivia whispered, "No. That is impossible."

Marcel slowly turned toward her. Their eyes met across the room. For the first time he did not look hurt. He looked ready.

Aurora leaned slightly toward him and whispered, "Now."

Marcel stepped forward...

  • The ledger of the dead

"Don't put that phone away," Marcel said, stepping back from the dead terminal as Marcus reached for his coffee cup. "Nobody celebrates.""The app uninstalled itself, Marcel," Marcus said, gesturing to the blank screen. "The servers are silent.""Because somebody planned this exit five years ago," Marcel said, his voice hard. "You don't wipe a multi-billion-dollar network in forty seconds on an impulse. Stop looking for the stolen money and trace where those micro-payments are landing."Marcus grumbled, pulling his keyboard back toward him. "Fine. Mapping the receiver nodes."Olivia stood near the kitchen island, her breathing heavy and jagged as she stared at her phone. "Whoever used my tax ID just turned me into an international money launderer. If federal agents knock on my door, I am pointing them straight at this room.""They won't knock on your door, Olivia," Eleanor said gently, trying to lay a hand on her arm.O

  • Emergency exit

"Stop it, Richard!" Eleanor shouted, her hands slamming onto the wooden tabletop. "Do not do this to him!"Marcel looked from his father's ghost-white face to his mother. "What is he talking about, Mom?""Your grandmother was a pure mathematician, Marcel," Eleanor said, her voice shaking with controlled fury as she turned on her husband. "She worked with Richard forty years ago on economic distribution models. She had nothing to do with Cain, she had nothing to do with Vanguard, and she died before you were born!""She didn't die, Evelyn," Richard insisted, his voice raspy. "She disappeared. Three weeks after she found out our research group was leaking predictive drafts to offshore buyers, her car was found empty at the river bridge."Marcus worked his tablet furiously. "Wait... I'm searching the root architecture of the original 1986 files. Look at these access tags." He spun the screen around. "Research Code Alpha-Seven-Seven. That wa

  • The authorized keeper

"Ten minutes," Marcel said, staring at his dark phone screen. "No sirens. No armed breach. Nothing.""They're waiting for us to panic and retreat into a safe house," Marcus said, tapping his keys as data streams turned green across his tablet. "That threat was a psychological flare. They want you focused on defense.""Then we strike now," Marcel said. "Distribute the payload."Marcus hit the final compile command. "Done. Encrypted copies of the complete archive just landed in thirty-two newsrooms, four federal prosecutors' offsite servers, and three international anti-corruption task forces. It's out, Marcel. They can burn every rack in this building, but they can't call the data back."Richard Kane sat at a small folding table, staring into the lens of a portable digital camera Marcus had mounted on a tripod. "I'm ready," Richard said, his voice quiet and raspy. "I'll record the full statement. I'll document my early research, the algorithms, and how Cain hijacked the infrastructure.

  • The Anolomy

"Get down!" Adrian roared, tackling Marcel onto the wet gravel as a second suppressed round shattered the brick parapet above their heads.Marcus scrambled through the access door, grabbing Marcel by his coat collar and hauling him into the stairwell. Behind them, Daniel Cross lay motionlessly on the roof, blood pooling into the rainwater."Did he give you a name?" Marcus gasped, slamming the heavy steel door shut and throwing the latch. "Marcel, did he say who betrayed your father?""No," Marcel said, staring at his hands, which were stained with Cross's blood. "He didn't give me a name."An hour later, back inside the damp vault of the archive, Marcus set a heavy brass casing on the workbench. "Sub-sonic ninety-grain precision round. The casing bears a private stamping used by Blackwood Global, the security contractor on Vanguard’s payroll. Cross was silenced the second he broke protocol."Marcel didn't look at the bullet. He

  • The purpose

The rain had stopped, leaving the gravel rooftop slick and reflecting the amber glare of the city below. Marcel stood six inches from the edge, his hands shoved deep into his coat pockets, his breath rising in faint white plumes."This is where I stood," Marcel said, his voice flat as he turned back to face his father, Adrian, and Marcus. "Three-fourteen in the morning. Reconstruct it."Marcus tapped his tablet, pulling up scraped surveillance feeds from three surrounding commercial buildings. "Camera six shows you arriving at three-0-two AM. But look at camera two across the street. At three-0-six, a black sedan pulls into the alley. A man steps out and uses a maintenance badge to hit the side door.""That's when I arrived," Adrian said, pointing at a second feed. "Three-twelve. I came through the front, but the elevator was locked on the ninth floor.""Look at the main lobby feed," Marcus interrupted, zooming in on a dark figure tappin

  • The Beacon

"This is a forgery," Marcel said, his thumb crushing the corner of the yellowed paper. "I was six years old. I couldn't write a legal directive.""It isn't a forgery, Marcel," the elderly board member said softly, resting his hands on his silver-topped cane. "Your father brought you into an attorney's office in 2006. It was a psychological trust exercise, a prompt to see how you responded to loss. You didn't understand the words. You were repeating what you heard your mother say."Marcus stepped up beside Marcel, pulling a high-intensity jeweler's loupe from his pocket and pressing it against the ink. "The signature is real, Marcel. The ink depth matches twenty-year-old paper." He paused, squinting closer. "Wait. Look at the date line under the ultraviolet spectrum on my tablet. The '06' was back-dated. Someone altered this entry three years ago."Marcel spun toward the old man. "Why lie about the date? Why try to make me think I engineered my own cage?""Because the Architect needed
