Both Joseph and Lily froze in shock. Their faces paled while beads of sweat poured out of their pores and were almost soaking their clothes wet in just an instant. Though it shouldn't make sense that Damien’s words had so much effect on them, his tone, the deadly glint in his eyes, and how he carried himself were far different from years ago.

It felt like he was someone different, a deadly entity they had infuriated, and soon he was going to unleash his hatred upon them.

“Hmp, it seems he hasn’t learned his lesson yet!” Joseph harrumphed and looked away. He suddenly realized how stupid it was to let the words of a lowly man get to him.

Regardless, his family was still very influential with power and status that shouldn’t be messed with.

“Let’s go, Lily. We will teach him some lessons some other time.” He said to Lily while she nodded, and they both hurried into their car with their guards and drove away.

Meanwhile, Maya joined Damien in the car too.

He looked at her and smiled.

“Thank you for standing up for me.” He said.

“It’s fine.” She nodded her head. “I also appreciate the fact that you are not a spineless man.” She added.

Damien chuckled lightly and didn’t say more. He looked ahead, while Maya started the car, and they drove out of the premises.

Silence reigned in the car all along as they drove off. Damien had many things on his mind. In fact, even before his release, he had many things planned out. Now that he was out, he had to put them into action.

While he was lost in his thoughts, Maya kept taking glances at him through the front mirror, wondering what was going on in his head. She might not look like it, but he had captured her interest in a way she couldn't fathom yet.

Ring! Ring!

Just then, her phone buzzed, blaring through the silence in the air.

She quickly picked it up, and when she saw the caller, she went ahead to answer the call.

Damien couldn't help but notice the series of expressions that played out on her face. Whoever she was talking to must have informed her of something grave and important.

Just as he suspected, she said after hanging up.

“I’m so sorry, but I have to drive to the company right away!” She said with a helpless look on her face while Damien nodded his head, seeing no issues with it.

“I’m sorry for this.” She apologized again.

“It’s fine,” Damien assured her when she drifted over and changed course to the path towards the company. She stepped on the accelerator and sped off professionally.

Damien had to admit she looked quite fierce, like her grandfather.

They arrived a moment later. Maya soon parked in the company parking lot.

She unstrapped her seatbelt before asking.

“Will you go in with me?”

Damien thought about it briefly before shaking his head.

“I’ll just wait here…” he said, but on second thought, he quickly added. “Actually, there’s someone I’d like to meet. An old friend.”

Maya stared at him for a short while before she stretched toward the backseat and suddenly took out a brand new phone and a black card.

“Take this.” She extended them to him.

“Call me when you are done. Or I’ll call you.” She added.

Before he could reply, she continued. “Also, take your baths and get changed, or else you won’t be allowed into some places.” She advised.

He had just gotten out of prison, so he was supposed to freshen up and change out of what he was wearing. But of course, he didn’t take offense at what she said, but instead, he had the intention of doing that even before she mentioned it.

“Sure, thank you.” Damien collected the phone and the card with a smile. He didn’t expect such kind gestures. She was so full of surprises.

Both of them hopped out of the car, and while she hurriedly walked towards the company, Damien turned in the other direction and took a cab.

Half an hour later, Damien arrived at the covenant law group, fully changed. He was clad in a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved shirt while his jet black hair was combed nicely to the back.

He approached the entrance; however, two guards evaded his path and blocked him from going in.

They both had a condescending look on their faces as they wondered where he had popped up from and was freely walking into the company like he owned the place.

“Did you book an appointment?”

One of them asked harshly and purposefully tapped his baton in his other hand to send a warning.

The other was looking at Damien just the same. He couldn’t help but chuckle slightly as he wondered if they thought portraying such gestures meant anything.

Apparently, he was here on a serious matter, so he had no time to fool around with them.

Rather than responding, he lifted his hand and snapped his fingers. The guards who were about to bash him for being mute without giving them a proper response suddenly lost consciousness out of the blue and collapsed to the floor.

He looked at them briefly before trotting in.

Damien knew his way around, so finding the manager's office didn’t take long for him. When he got towards the office, he pushed the door and walked in.

However, in the next moment, a voice snapped from inside.

“Don’t you know how to knock?”

"Damen... you're..you're.. out already," the figure stuttered, her expression appearing clam, but her shaky voice and hands betrayed her feigned calmness as she gulped down an invisible lump in her throat.

  • A magic trick

Everyone stared at Damien, puzzled. Apparently, he sounded like someone who had lost his sense of reasoning or perhaps he had bumped his head off somewhere and could no longer think properly with his brain. At least if his brain was that useless, his eyes should be able to see that the patient who was lying in the bed was no longer breathing and had become so pale that even at a first glance, one would be able to tell he was dead. But in Damien's case, that didn’t seem to be it. Unless, he was trying to add more salt to the wound, deliberately. Moses began to fume in rage. His chest was heaving as though he was being pumped with so much anger and hatred and would soon unleash it upon Damien ruthlessly.“Damien, I don’t know what you are trying to prove, but you should just stay put and keep shut!”Aria immediately pulled Damien forcefully to the back. She had a feeling that he would bring nothing but trouble the moment she saw him; that was why she had been looking at him like he was

She was trying hard not to believe what she just heard. Not just her but Aria too. Both of them looked back at the bed and without going to confirm, they were sure the man was dead. Even the doctors who stood by the side had gloomy faces as they weren't able to save him.Damien who just walked in, noticed all this, the tension in the air; however, he was perplexed as to how it was affiliated with Maya.“You aren't saying anything yet? Have you not made your decision already?” The man, Moses continued. His eyes were piercing daggers at her as he emitted killing intent. If he could swap Maya's life to bring his son back, he would have done it a long time ago. Both Maya and Aria trembled upon hearing his words again. Maya inhaled deeply, deciding to be calm about it. “I can't choose!” She said.“Hahahaha, what a nice joke.” Moses burst out chuckling. “I knew you were g

Moments later, Damien arrived back at Moonlight Corporation. As he stood by the entrance, he thought about calling Maya to give him directions to her office, or if she could come down or send someone to come pick him up.Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a familiar voice from up ahead. “We need to hurry!” He looked and saw it was Maya walking alongside someone else— a woman clad in a suit, both of them had a tough yet panicked expression still as they hurried off. Regardless, he approached them.“Damien, you are back?” Maya caught a glance of him as they were about to take a turn into the parking lot.She managed to squeeze out a smile as she looked at him while her assistant, Aria seized him up, wondering who he was.“Yes, I'm back. Please forgive me.”“You don’t look like someone who has been hunted by her conscience!” Damien huffed coldly, still unmoved by her words.Freya was on the verge of saying something when his words caught her off guard.
