The Beckham family

Maya turned to look at Damien, noticing the deadly look and hate in his eyes. At first, when the car pulled over, she suspected they were friends, but now she realized they were far from it.

She turned back to look at the people when it dawned on her that she actually knew them too. The two in front that were clad in designer wear were Joseph and Lily, while the bulky men walking behind them were obviously bodyguards.

They were from the Beckham family and the same people who had orchestrated the whole plot to send Damien to prison.

Instinctively, she stepped forward and stood in front of Damien. The Beckham family was a top family in the city that even she wouldn’t dare to mess with. If they wanted to put Damien back in prison, they could do it again; that was just how powerful and villainous they were.

But since the old man had made him her responsibility, she wasn’t just going to watch it happen. She had to protect him. These were her thoughts.

“The president is here to pick up a prisoner?” Joseph spoke first after flashing a look of contempt at Maya. He knew who she was and how powerful her family was, but never once had he feared her.

His gaze then shifted to Damien, and he grinned.

“I never knew you had this kind of connection. That’s impressive!” He said with a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

Damien was silent all this while, boiling in so much anger and rage. At the sight of their faces, past wounds opened up. All those scenes that haunted him as nightmares can right back up as though they were visually played before him for him to watch.

He hated these people to the core, and they were the same people who gave him the drive to become stronger. Mainly because he was going to confront them for revenge.

However, they were so bold as to remember the day he was set free and even came to mock him? He clenched his fist tightly and was about to say something when Maya spoke up.

“Why are you guys here? What do you want?” Her brows furrowed as she stared at them intensely.

However, Joseph found the questions to be very hilarious. He burst out laughing, and after having his fill, he replied.

“Well, I am here to see that punk who decided to go against my family five years ago. I want to see if he has learned his lesson and turned a new leaf.”

Maya wanted to retort, but Damien stepped forward and said,

“Actually I did learn many things while I was in prison.”

The anger in his chest was closely replaced. This time around, he was smiling, but there was more to his words than meets the eye.

Of course, a narrow-minded person like Joseph, who was still so full of himself, never felt a more profound meaning to it.

“That’s why I am here. Next time you’ll know your place and know the difference in power.” Joseph huffed. “Also, consider yourself lucky that all you got was a five-year sentence, and that’s because my family took pity on you, or else you would have been buried in some backyard and turned into a rotten corpse by now.” He added, sounding like what he said was an act of kindness.

Damien expected such a response as he knew these people were never sorry for what they had done. They never were, and they never would.

Maya seemed to have had enough of their mockery. She wasn’t the one who went through all that but it was so painful that it couldn’t be ignored.

She turned to look at Lily, who was staring at them with a mocking smile, and asked.

“Lily, at least you are older than Joseph. If he is so irresponsible, there’s no need to be the same as him, right?”

Lily and Joseph exchanged glances and laughed even harder, like they had just heard the funniest joke in their lives.

“Irresponsible? He’s only trying to lecture the shrimp who thinks he can go against our family. Why should I be against it?” Lily looked back at Maya with a raised brow.

“Tell her, sister. I think that punk might have affected her with some brain disease!” Joseph chirped in chuckling.

“Is that so?” Damien suddenly said, and the next thing, he began to laugh too. However, his laughter was a stark contrast to what theirs was. They had been using theirs to mock him but when they heard his, they stopped laughing and were shocked.

He sounded like a maniac who not only bears so much hatred for their family, but might be up to something too. They were instantly intimidated as they looked at him, wondering what it was actually about.

“Don’t worry, I will watch my back next time.” Damien continued after having his fill too. He then looked at Joseph and asked.

“What would your family do if I enacted the same justice on your sister just like your family did to my sister?”

While he was in prison, he had secretly investigated his sister's death with some resources he got from his godfather. He was able to find out that it was Lily who ordered the abduction and ensured his sister was violated by her brother before passing her to some bodyguards until she died.

He knew everything now, every truth they had hidden far away from him.

Both Lily and Joseph paled in shock as they stared at Damien. Even Maya couldn't resist the urge to look at him.

Silence reigned for a short while; however, the tension in the air was so hot. Eventually, Joseph shrugged his shoulders, suddenly looking unfazed.

“Try it if you dare!” He snarled, staring daggers at Damien.

“Hmp! Let’s see you try!” Lily retorted too with a smirk on her face.

After thinking about it, they realize there was no way someone like him could even touch a strand of their hair. They sent him to prison and could still do it again.

He might think his bold words might have any effect when actually, he was just blowing air and throwing his weight around. Damien laughed and nodded his head.

“You all should watch your backs.” He warned.

“And also, I have a message for you and your family.” A smile bloomed on his face; however, it felt like it was the most eerie thing they had ever seen.

“You all should wash your necks and wait for me. I am coming for you all.” He turned and was about to walk off when Joseph snorted.

“And where do you think you are going? I don’t remember telling you to leave!” 

“So, are you going to stop me?” Damien turned to look at him; a deadly glint emerged in his eyes. It seemed he had to teach these idiots a lesson first, or else they wouldn't know what was coming for them.

“Hmp, my family put you in prison after all. If I can put you behind bars, I can as well kill you.” Joseph smirked. “You should be careful not to—-“

Bang!

The remaining words had yet to leave his mouth when he was forced to swallow them back. Damien, who was meters away, had appeared before him in a blink of an eye.

Joseph didn’t know when or what he was hit with, but all he could feel was pain while his vision blurred. He staggered to the back, almost falling to the floor.

“Mr. Beckham!” The bodyguard hurried forward to help him. None of them anticipated the attack and could not have stopped it even if they had seen him coming.

Lily's eyes also widened in shock. No one thought Damien would be so bold as to make a move. They only thought he was blowing up air, yet he had just attacked one of the Beckhams?

“Kill him now,”  Joseph ordered at once. He had lost himself to anger and no longer had the intention of sparing Damien any longer. The bastard had to die.

“Yes, young master.”

The bodyguards didn’t waste time either. Since Damien dared to hurt their young master, it was time to teach him a lesson.
