Damien instantly chuckled lightly when he saw the expression that emerged on her face. She was shocked to see him to the point that she was almost falling off the chair she was sitting on.
“You put me there, yet you have forgotten the day of my release?” He raised a brow at her. Freya, the lady, swallowed hard. She wanted to say something but it suddenly felt like a bone was stuck in her throat. All she could do was grip the chair handle tightly as Damien's eyes were so penetrating, like he was the Grim Reaper who had come to collect her life. After all, she knew what she did. She was the lawyer who was helping him with the case years ago, until she decided to side with his enemies and framed him for fabricating the evidence. She was enjoying life with the benefits she had gotten from putting him behind bars, forgetting that he would ever be released. Smiling, Damien walked over and took a seat. “Since I am here, I want to see how you are doing.” He said. However, Freya knew there was more to his words. She swallowed, preparing herself as she could guess he was here for revenge. As his lawyer, not only had she disgraced him in court, she had also sent him to prison. “If you want money, I can give you lots of it to make up for the time you spent in prison. You can use it to start over since you have nothing now.” She said self-righteously. Damien laughed even harder this time before looking at her. “I knew you would say such.” He uttered casually. Her face instantly darkened as she felt chills running down her spine. The room had good conditioning; however, at the moment, none of it mattered. Freya was sweating so profusely that her suit was drenched. She began to wish that if time could be reversed, she might have left the office by now or made sure there were guards around to protect her. That way, she would have felt calm and confident in herself. She then thought of guards by the entrance and couldn't help but curse at them for not stopping Damien or perhaps alerting her that he was coming. Damn it! She cursed again and clenched her fist tightly above her thighs. “Why didn’t you listen to me when I was pleading with you years ago to tell the truth?” Damien asked again. He could still remember the look on her face. She didn’t look like she was remorseful about what she said or did, but instead, it felt like what she was saying was the truth when actually she had twisted it all. Damien continued. “What did the Beckham family promise you? Tell me.” He relaxed into the chair as he asked. She didn’t respond to his first question, so he decided to enlighten her more since he knew the details. “You knew?” Freya gasped in shock. She never thought he would find out that she was bribed by the opposition family. Now she was very sure he had come for revenge. However, she didn’t dare to spill the beans. Damien here might be very intimidating. She didn’t know what happened to him in prison, but compared to the Beckham family, he was nothing. Those people were a top family no one would want to mess with even a lawyer like her. If she spilled the beans, she would definitely be dealt with. Knowing that, she tried her best to remain calm before feigning ignorance. “I don’t know what you are talking about.” She immediately put a frown on her face to cover up how scared she was. “You dare to hide it from me now? You don't think I am a fool, do you? The fact that I was able to find out even though you tried to cover it up should have given you a hint.” Damien explained while circling the spot on the handle of the chair. His aura was so domineering yet again that all the fear Freya had been trying so hard to conceal came rushing back in like a tide. “Don’t mess with me, Freya. You won’t want to test my patience!” He added without looking at her; however, his words alone were already effective enough. So many thoughts began to ram through Freya's head. She thought about calling the police, but even if she did, before they could get here, Damien would have killed her and left. Though he might later be brought to justice, by then, she would be dead. She didn’t want to die. She had so much to live for. She was still young and had yet to enjoy the fruit of life for her to die so soon. After a while battling with her thoughts, she knew he had just one way about, and that was to plead. Her body was already trembling when she pushed the chair off and went to her knees. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to accuse you or frame you. Please forgive me. Show mercy, please.” Freya's lips were trembling as she spoke. Damien remained unfazed. “That’s not what I asked. I said, What did they offer you? Money, promotion? What was it? Tell me!” He asked, feeling disgusted. Now he was able to confirm that lawyers were actually the rotten ones. The truth was right there before her, yet she chose to frame the innocent. He couldn't begin to imagine the number of people who had gone through such. “I swear, it wasn’t intentional…. The Beckham family…..they…” Freya stuttered. She found herself caught up between offending Damien and the Beckham family. She could care about the latter afterward but for now, Damien was the issue. “They took my parents and threatened to kill them if I didn’t do what they asked. I didn’t have a choice. If I hadn’t, my parents would have been killed.”Latest Chapter
Two lab rats
“A trick?” Moses gasped in shock for a brief moment before asking.“Sure. I want to see the trick you want to put on!” He replied, frowning deeply. His words might have come out sarcastically, but it didn’t matter to Damien.“I need two lab rats!” Damien lifted two fingers in the air as he spoke. Moses wanted to see where it would lead to after all. He turned and left the ward for a brief moment to ask his men to bring them over.Maya stared at Damien, but this time she didn’t have an expectant look on her face; instead, she was filled with so much doubt. She didn’t know what Damien was trying to prove, but she was having an ominous premonition that it would all lead to a dead end.Everyone kept watching in curiosity. Even Mrs. Pamela, Moses' wife, who had a pale face after crying for so long and was so mute due to the shock of losing her son, was now curious as to what was going to unfold next. The doctors were just as intrigued. Damien seemed to have greater talent than he wanted
A magic trick
Everyone stared at Damien, puzzled. Apparently, he sounded like someone who had lost his sense of reasoning or perhaps he had bumped his head off somewhere and could no longer think properly with his brain. At least if his brain was that useless, his eyes should be able to see that the patient who was lying in the bed was no longer breathing and had become so pale that even at a first glance, one would be able to tell he was dead. But in Damien's case, that didn’t seem to be it. Unless, he was trying to add more salt to the wound, deliberately. Moses began to fume in rage. His chest was heaving as though he was being pumped with so much anger and hatred and would soon unleash it upon Damien ruthlessly.“Damien, I don’t know what you are trying to prove, but you should just stay put and keep shut!”Aria immediately pulled Damien forcefully to the back. She had a feeling that he would bring nothing but trouble the moment she saw him; that was why she had been looking at him like he was
There’s no need for violence
“What?”Maya gasped in shock, almost losing her balance on the floor. Her eyes widened after her face became so ashen. She was trying hard not to believe what she just heard. Not just her but Aria too. Both of them looked back at the bed and without going to confirm, they were sure the man was dead. Even the doctors who stood by the side had gloomy faces as they weren't able to save him.Damien who just walked in, noticed all this, the tension in the air; however, he was perplexed as to how it was affiliated with Maya.“You aren't saying anything yet? Have you not made your decision already?” The man, Moses continued. His eyes were piercing daggers at her as he emitted killing intent. If he could swap Maya's life to bring his son back, he would have done it a long time ago. Both Maya and Aria trembled upon hearing his words again. Maya inhaled deeply, deciding to be calm about it. “I can't choose!” She said.“Hahahaha, what a nice joke.” Moses burst out chuckling. “I knew you were g
I’ll give you two choices
Moments later, Damien arrived back at Moonlight Corporation. As he stood by the entrance, he thought about calling Maya to give him directions to her office, or if she could come down or send someone to come pick him up.Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a familiar voice from up ahead. “We need to hurry!” He looked and saw it was Maya walking alongside someone else— a woman clad in a suit, both of them had a tough yet panicked expression still as they hurried off. Damien couldn't help but wonder if she had yet to resolve what she was bothered about or not. Regardless, he approached them.“Damien, you are back?” Maya caught a glance of him as they were about to take a turn into the parking lot.She managed to squeeze out a smile as she looked at him while her assistant, Aria seized him up, wondering who he was.“Yes, I'm back. I see you are heading somewhere.” Damien inquired.“Ooh yes. You can wait around in the company until I'm back.” She suggested. Afrerall, whate
Forgive me
Damien’s eyes narrowed into crescent moons as he stared at her. It immediately gave off the impression that he was suspicious of what she said.Seeing this, Freya shuddered and explained further.“I’m not lying to you. I swear. I felt terrible for what I did, but it’s not like I can go against such a powerful family. I’m just like a small fry to them.”She paused to catch her breath before continuing.“I spent days unable to eat, knowing I’ve wronged an innocent man and put him in jail. I couldn’t afford to lose my parents; that's why I did what I did. Please forgive me.”“You don’t look like someone who has been hunted by her conscience!” Damien huffed coldly, still unmoved by her words.Freya was on the verge of saying something when his words caught her off guard. She had no choice but to keep quiet as she knew he wasn’t buying all that she was saying.“I will come visit you soon!” Damien suddenly stood up and turned to face the door.Freya nearly breathed out in relief as she saw
