“What?”

Maya gasped in shock, almost losing her balance on the floor. Her eyes widened after her face became so ashen. She was trying hard not to believe what she just heard.

Not just her but Aria too. Both of them looked back at the bed and without going to confirm, they were sure the man was dead. Even the doctors who stood by the side had gloomy faces as they weren't able to save him.

Damien who just walked in, noticed all this, the tension in the air; however, he was perplexed as to how it was affiliated with Maya.

“You aren't saying anything yet? Have you not made your decision already?” The man, Moses continued. His eyes were piercing daggers at her as he emitted killing intent. If he could swap Maya's life to bring his son back, he would have done it a long time ago.

Both Maya and Aria trembled upon hearing his words again. Maya inhaled deeply, deciding to be calm about it.

“I can't choose!” She said.

“Hahahaha, what a nice joke.” Moses burst out chuckling. “I knew you were going to say this,” he continued with a smile.

A vicious look appeared in his eyes as he spoke again. “Don't think because you know how to fight, I don't know how to end you. I hope you haven't forgotten who I am.” He pointed it out as a reminder in case she was forgetting that fact.

Maya gritted her teeth tightly. She inhaled deeply before looking at him, intending to say something when Damien raced her to it. He stepped forward too.

“What's the need for violence?” He asked curiously as he had yet to grasp what was going on.

Maya frowned and pulled him back quickly.

“Damien, you shouldn't say such things, especially to someone like him.”

Damien smiled. “I know what I am doing.” He assured her before turning to face Moses. “Why are you blaming Maya?” He asked abruptly.

Moses laughed evilly after sizing Damien up, seeing him as nothing but a fool.

“You don't know?” He asked in a mocking tone.

“No I don't,” Damien replied genuinely.

Moses studied him for a short while before going ahead to explain to him. After all, he didn't mind, as no one could stop him from dealing with Maya here today.

“My son Owen has been terribly sick, and her company released a new drug which they claim to be effective!” He pointed at Maya with so much anger and disgust in his eyes as he spoke.

“But, it turns out to be all lies!” He gritted his teeth tightly and couldn't help but blame himself for foolishly falling for their words. Now it felt like his son's life was nothing but a test subject to them.

“I bought the costly drug and administered it to my son but eventually his condition didn't improve but worsened instead and now he is dead. Just look at my son, he is lying motionless on the bed.”

Moses continued with red eyes. Behind his tough and furious expression was a father who wanted his son to be back to normal. He kept wishing and praying yet nothing had happened.

He even thought this was a false reality or a dream he would wake up from but it wasn't. How could he bear to watch his son die like that? His wife who was seated by the bedside hadn't said a word since. She had been crying for a long time and hadn't moved from where she was seated.

It felt like she was on the verge of losing herself if she hadn't already. When he took a glance at both of them, he gritted his teeth even tighter.

Damien was stunned. He had just gotten out of prison and didn't know much about Maya or her company so there was no way he could have guessed it. Now it all made sense.

He turned to Maya.

“Is it true?” He asked to confirm while she nodded.

“Yes, it is.” Maya wouldn't deny it else she wouldn't have come all the way to this place. It was still a dream to her too that the drug failed when she knew how authentic it was.

The drug had gone through several trials before it was let out to the public. She had been one hundred percent sure and could have sworn that nothing could go wrong but now, it felt like she had lost her tongue.

She no longer knew what to say, how to say it, or what to do. It wasn't like she could miraculously bring a dead man back to life.

Damien studied her expression and realized how difficult it must have been for her. It wasn't easy to run a company, especially one in such a field.

“Now that you know what she did, do you dare to ask me if there's a need for violence anymore?” Moses harrumphed coldly as he looked at Damien this time.

The look in his eyes stated that if Damien were to side with Maya again after what he heard, he would fold his sleeve up and fight both of them to the death here and now.

The least he could do was send them to the afterlife and then pray they got tortured in hell.

He waited patiently when Damien turned to him and smiled.

“I mean what I said. There's no need for violence!”

Moses instantly felt like hurling a fist right in the middle of his nose to break it.

However, Damien continued. “After all, your son isn't dead yet.”

  • A magic trick

Everyone stared at Damien, puzzled. Apparently, he sounded like someone who had lost his sense of reasoning or perhaps he had bumped his head off somewhere and could no longer think properly with his brain. At least if his brain was that useless, his eyes should be able to see that the patient who was lying in the bed was no longer breathing and had become so pale that even at a first glance, one would be able to tell he was dead. But in Damien's case, that didn’t seem to be it. Unless, he was trying to add more salt to the wound, deliberately. Moses began to fume in rage. His chest was heaving as though he was being pumped with so much anger and hatred and would soon unleash it upon Damien ruthlessly.“Damien, I don’t know what you are trying to prove, but you should just stay put and keep shut!”Aria immediately pulled Damien forcefully to the back. She had a feeling that he would bring nothing but trouble the moment she saw him; that was why she had been looking at him like he was

  • I’ll give you two choices

Moments later, Damien arrived back at Moonlight Corporation. As he stood by the entrance, he thought about calling Maya to give him directions to her office, or if she could come down or send someone to come pick him up.Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a familiar voice from up ahead. “We need to hurry!” He looked and saw it was Maya walking alongside someone else— a woman clad in a suit, both of them had a tough yet panicked expression still as they hurried off. Damien couldn't help but wonder if she had yet to resolve what she was bothered about or not. Regardless, he approached them.“Damien, you are back?” Maya caught a glance of him as they were about to take a turn into the parking lot.She managed to squeeze out a smile as she looked at him while her assistant, Aria seized him up, wondering who he was.“Yes, I'm back. I see you are heading somewhere.” Damien inquired.“Ooh yes. You can wait around in the company until I'm back.” She suggested. Afrerall, whate

I felt terrible for what I did, but it’s not like I can go against such a powerful family. I’m just like a small fry to them.”She paused to catch her breath before continuing.“I spent days unable to eat, knowing I’ve wronged an innocent man and put him in jail. I couldn’t afford to lose my parents; that's why I did what I did. Please forgive me.”“You don’t look like someone who has been hunted by her conscience!” Damien huffed coldly, still unmoved by her words.Freya was on the verge of saying something when his words caught her off guard. • It wasn’t intentional
