Everyone stared at Damien, puzzled. Apparently, he sounded like someone who had lost his sense of reasoning or perhaps he had bumped his head off somewhere and could no longer think properly with his brain.
At least if his brain was that useless, his eyes should be able to see that the patient who was lying in the bed was no longer breathing and had become so pale that even at a first glance, one would be able to tell he was dead. But in Damien's case, that didn’t seem to be it. Unless, he was trying to add more salt to the wound, deliberately. Moses began to fume in rage. His chest was heaving as though he was being pumped with so much anger and hatred and would soon unleash it upon Damien ruthlessly. “Damien, I don’t know what you are trying to prove, but you should just stay put and keep shut!” Aria immediately pulled Damien forcefully to the back. She had a feeling that he would bring nothing but trouble the moment she saw him; that was why she had been looking at him like he was nothing but an eyesore. He had just proven her to be even worse. He didn’t know how to read the room and was hellbent on making things even worse for Maya. She had the urge to bundle him up and throw him out at once. For someone who had no medical knowledge but looked like riffraff, he did have some balls to put up a bold front. He might not know this, but Moses was the richest man in the city. The man could crush almost anyone. That was why Maya was so lost in thought and looked so frightened, even though she had always had the traits of an Alpha female. Did Damien have to make things worse? “Let go!” Damien shrugged her off before turning back to Moses. He was displeased by Aria's actions, but he didn’t have the time to reprimand her. He could only shun her for now. “You!” Aria wanted to push further and intercept him, but Maya waved her not to. She was curious as to what Damien was up to. If the man were useless, her grandfather wouldn't have asked him to be her bodyguard. There might be something he had seen that no one had yet. Even though it didn’t make sense as she thought about it, she had no choice but to place a bet on him. And of course, she was risking all odds. “So, what will you do if your son isn’t dead?” Damien looked directly into Moses' eyes as he continued. “Kid, you should have taken her warning. I swear I will—“ Moses was on the verge of losing himself. “I am serious. Why don’t we make a bet?” Damien cut him off with a mysterious smile on his face. The confidence, the expression, though it was bold, made Moses feel that perhaps he could indulge him for now and use him as a scapegoat to set up an example. After all, he could use him as a starting point to vent his anger before going ahead to trample Maya. “Okay, I’ll indulge you.” He calmed his anger down and smiled. “Go on,” he gave Damien the go-ahead. “Here’s the take: if I can prove your son is still alive, you will apologize to Maya, and also, you will invest in her company.” Damien began. A vicious glint immediately flashed inside Moses' eyes. “And if you can’t?” He countered. However, Damien chuckled lightly. “Don’t worry, I have already assured you. I just want you to give me your word.” Moses looked over at Maya and Aria, who were just as stunned, proving all this wasn’t staged, and it seemed Damien was acting of his own accord. Well, if what he said could be proven, then he had no reason not to try out what Damien suggested. After all, money wasn’t an issue. All he wanted was for his son to live. “Okay, I accept!” Moses nodded with clenched fists. “I admire your confidence, honestly, but if all that you are doing is merely an act, you can forget leaving here alive!” He added shortly. “You are welcome to try.” Damien smiled fearlessly. Moses stared at him for a while before saying. “Go ahead. Do your thing!” He moved to the side, giving Damien the platform to go ahead. Damien didn’t waste any more time. “Damien—“ Aria called out through gritted teeth, feeling this was all a mistake and the man was getting ahead of himself; yet, he ignored her and walked over to the patient on the bed with a serious expression on his face and took his hand into his to feel a pulse. Maya didn’t say anything. For some reason, she had subconsciously put her faith in him. Besides, she was already clueless and hopeless about what to do. She wouldn't mind assistance from Damien. Either way, her company would be shut down and crushed after today. Everyone kept watching as Damien conducted whatever he was doing. He now looked more like a doctor who was conducting tests on a patient while they were his students waiting to learn from his teachings. After a while, he pulled off and turned to Maya. “Can I see a sample of the drug?” He requested. “What do you need it—“ Aria was done holding on to her patience. She wanted to refute him when Maya cut her off. “Just do as he says. Go get it.” Aria flashed a cold stare at Damien conveying so many unspoken words through her eyes before she turned and left. Moments later, she returned with a drug and handed it to him. Damien collected it and sniffed the container. Subsequently, a smile emerged on his face. “Where is the trash bin?” He asked out of the blue. “There!” One of the doctors who was silently watching and had been responsible for the patient previously spoke out. He pointed at the other side of the bed. A small trash can was there with a couple of waste contents that had been used on the patient and disposed of. Under the curious gaze of everyone, Damien walked over and dipped his hand into it, seemingly searching for something. At this point, no one could guess what he was up to. Even Moses stared at the man with so much confusion in his eyes. He felt the urge to say something, but considering that he had already admitted to giving Damien a chance, he remained put and waited. As for Maya, she was close to chewing her finger off nervously. But of course Aria had a kind of look that meant she had seen this coming and had known the man was up to nothing substantial but had just been wasting their time. If Moses decided to take it out on them, she would make sure he started with him first. Meanwhile, Damien suddenly pulled out a syringe that still had a bit of content inside. It was the one used on the patient. Without a word, he pulled a table over and laid them all out in front of everyone including the one Aria had brought over not long ago. He looked at Moses in particular and asked. “Would you like to see a magic trick?”Latest Chapter
Two lab rats
“A trick?” Moses gasped in shock for a brief moment before asking.“Sure. I want to see the trick you want to put on!” He replied, frowning deeply. His words might have come out sarcastically, but it didn’t matter to Damien.“I need two lab rats!” Damien lifted two fingers in the air as he spoke. Moses wanted to see where it would lead to after all. He turned and left the ward for a brief moment to ask his men to bring them over.Maya stared at Damien, but this time she didn’t have an expectant look on her face; instead, she was filled with so much doubt. She didn’t know what Damien was trying to prove, but she was having an ominous premonition that it would all lead to a dead end.Everyone kept watching in curiosity. Even Mrs. Pamela, Moses' wife, who had a pale face after crying for so long and was so mute due to the shock of losing her son, was now curious as to what was going to unfold next. The doctors were just as intrigued. Damien seemed to have greater talent than he wanted

There’s no need for violence
“What?”Maya gasped in shock, almost losing her balance on the floor. Her eyes widened after her face became so ashen. She was trying hard not to believe what she just heard. Not just her but Aria too. Both of them looked back at the bed and without going to confirm, they were sure the man was dead. Even the doctors who stood by the side had gloomy faces as they weren't able to save him.Damien who just walked in, noticed all this, the tension in the air; however, he was perplexed as to how it was affiliated with Maya.“You aren't saying anything yet? Have you not made your decision already?” The man, Moses continued. His eyes were piercing daggers at her as he emitted killing intent. If he could swap Maya's life to bring his son back, he would have done it a long time ago. Both Maya and Aria trembled upon hearing his words again. Maya inhaled deeply, deciding to be calm about it. “I can't choose!” She said.“Hahahaha, what a nice joke.” Moses burst out chuckling. “I knew you were g
I’ll give you two choices
Moments later, Damien arrived back at Moonlight Corporation. As he stood by the entrance, he thought about calling Maya to give him directions to her office, or if she could come down or send someone to come pick him up.Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a familiar voice from up ahead. “We need to hurry!” He looked and saw it was Maya walking alongside someone else— a woman clad in a suit, both of them had a tough yet panicked expression still as they hurried off. Damien couldn't help but wonder if she had yet to resolve what she was bothered about or not. Regardless, he approached them.“Damien, you are back?” Maya caught a glance of him as they were about to take a turn into the parking lot.She managed to squeeze out a smile as she looked at him while her assistant, Aria seized him up, wondering who he was.“Yes, I'm back. I see you are heading somewhere.” Damien inquired.“Ooh yes. You can wait around in the company until I'm back.” She suggested. Afrerall, whate
Forgive me
Damien’s eyes narrowed into crescent moons as he stared at her. It immediately gave off the impression that he was suspicious of what she said.Seeing this, Freya shuddered and explained further.“I’m not lying to you. I swear. I felt terrible for what I did, but it’s not like I can go against such a powerful family. I’m just like a small fry to them.”She paused to catch her breath before continuing.“I spent days unable to eat, knowing I’ve wronged an innocent man and put him in jail. I couldn’t afford to lose my parents; that's why I did what I did. Please forgive me.”“You don’t look like someone who has been hunted by her conscience!” Damien huffed coldly, still unmoved by her words.Freya was on the verge of saying something when his words caught her off guard. She had no choice but to keep quiet as she knew he wasn’t buying all that she was saying.“I will come visit you soon!” Damien suddenly stood up and turned to face the door.Freya nearly breathed out in relief as she saw
It wasn’t intentional
Damien instantly chuckled lightly when he saw the expression that emerged on her face. She was shocked to see him to the point that she was almost falling off the chair she was sitting on.“You put me there, yet you have forgotten the day of my release?” He raised a brow at her.Freya, the lady, swallowed hard. She wanted to say something but it suddenly felt like a bone was stuck in her throat. All she could do was grip the chair handle tightly as Damien's eyes were so penetrating, like he was the Grim Reaper who had come to collect her life. After all, she knew what she did. She was the lawyer who was helping him with the case years ago, until she decided to side with his enemies and framed him for fabricating the evidence. She was enjoying life with the benefits she had gotten from putting him behind bars, forgetting that he would ever be released.Smiling, Damien walked over and took a seat.“Since I am here, I want to see how you are doing.” He said. However, Freya knew there wa
