Ariel signaled to the guards that were in the car and they stepped out immediately at her orders.
The chief of the guards walked up slowly towards her with a slight bow.
“What are we to do Miss. ?“ He Inquired not daring to look into her eyes even for a single moment.
“Beat them up until I am satisfied.“ She replied, stepping backwards slowly away from the scene.
The guards advanced towards them and began to beat up the men slowly, kicking them in their stomachs.
A pouch landed on the face of the man with a broken tooth who seemed to be the leader of the gang, splitting his nose as blood flowed out slowly.
“I want to make sure that each of them has a significant injury.“ She ordered and the guards nod their heads in affirmation to what she just said.
All the thugs got rounded up with different bruises on their faces as they continued to groan in pain and were dropped off before Ariel.
She got down slowly towards them, giving each of them a slap on the face while they Continued to groan in pain.
“Next to them, whenever you see any of us, take to your heels because you might not live to tell the story “ She growled at them.
“Now get out of my sight before I change my mind.“ She noted and everyone of them broke into a swift run immediately, making her lips break into a sudden smile.
“We can get going now“ She noted, her words directed towards John and they got into the car.
He could feel the tense air in her voice and the sound of her racing heart right from the point that she was standing.
“What was your issue with them?“ She inquired.
“Nothing serious.“ John replied and she could already tell that he did not want to say anything about it.
She kept on stealing glances at him. Mr. Gerald had so much confidence in him when he was talking about him and she thought that he was going to be a really old or even retired doctor
But instead, she got a young and handsome man.
“What's the position of your father?“ He Inquired wanting to get ready for what was coming for him.
“We don't know... Last night, he just fell unconscious and his situation had only been getting worse.“ She noted.
"We have tried all our possible best to make sure that everything becomes fine but it just hasn't been working!"
"His mouth foams and his skin is turning greenish!" She noted with a downgraded voice.
John's heart skipped a beat hearing these words. There was only one thing that she could pin point to these ailments that had just been mentioned.
Could it really be the sickness that his master had fought hard to eradicate or it was something else.
He drew a deep breath! There was no way of knowing until he saw the man for himself.
He nodded his head not wanting to push further. If he wanted to know what was wrong with him, he would have to check the old man out himself
Finally, they got to a breathtaking mansion with a lot of great statues and fountains littered all around the place.
“I'm sorry but I will have to put something in place. The guard will take you to my father.“ She assured him and he nodded his head.
Getting out of the car, a guard led him slowly toward the place.
Halfway through their journey, he was hit by an odd scent that made his nose too farrowed.
In all these years of practice as a doctor, he had only perceived that in two instances.
“Maybe I am just overthinking it. I will have to see it for myself.“ He assured himself, pulling off from the point that he was standing as he continued to walk gradually.
The Armstrong family stood tall among the buildings that were around the city, matching its fame as the number three most powerful family in the city.
It was enough to make anyone in their right state of mind gasp in awe but John was able to maintain a strange composure that even Ariel could not comprend.
'I knew that there had to be something about him for him to be recommended by Mr. Gerald!' She swallowed her thoughts with a slight smile.
The guards and the workers of the Villa shot multiple glances at Ariel, together with the person that she had brought along.
"Do you think that he is a new worker!" One of them asked, making sure that the powerful heiress didn't hear any word of what they were saying.
"A worker? That has to be the most dry joke I have heard in the longest time! Just look at how ferial he is looking! Do you think that he can even take care of himself?" Another worker Replied.
"Then what is he doing with the heiress!"
"We will find out soon enough!"
Even though they whispered from afar, John's sensitive ears were more than enough to catch their words
"I will join you John! I need to sort out a few things with my subordinate! The guard here will lead you!" Ariel informed politely.
John nodded, after which he was led into the room. His eyes met with a lady standing tall and beautiful. Though not as beautiful as Ariel.
Her face morphed into a frown immediately her face laid on John and she spat with disgust coursing through her throat.
"How was a beggar able to gain free access into this place again? Are the guards suddenly tired of doing their job?" She sneered with utter irritation.
“I..“ John Wanted to reply but she froze his words almost instantly.
“And how dare you speak without me giving you the audience too?“ She thundered at him almost immediately staring right into his eyes.
“Fool.“ She raised her hands attempting to slap him across the face but then, a hand held her back from doing this.
She fumed even more with so much anger, raising her eyes slowly to see who it was only to notice that it was her sister.
“What are you doing sister, let me teach this fool a lesson that is going to be stuck in his head.“ She growled at him but she only dropped his hands down.
“Stop it already Helena. He is the one that Mr. Edward “ Helana heard Ariel saying but that only got her even more confused than she was already.
“I don't understand.“
“The doctor that I told you about was recommended to him. He noted but immediately she spat out the words from her mouth, Mabel burst out into laughter, clutching her stomach while her sister's eyes farrowed.
“I really think that you have gotten the wrong person. Just look at his sister. He can barely take care of himself on a normal day .
“I double checked and if he is recommending someone to me, it must be because he knows that she is potential enough to get him treated.“ She replied.
She shot a stare at him but Mabel could still not come to terms with what she just heard.
“I already called doctor James. He is the most renowned doctor in the city and the most experienced too.“ Mabel added.
The way that John was dressed so ordinary was enough to scare the life out of her, she wasn't going to allow such a person to lay a finger on her father.
“Your dad's case is very critical, I don't think anyone would know what to do in this case.“ He replied because with every single second that the treatment was delayed, it was only making things much worse for them.
Mabel's frown deepened.
“Since you know too much about medicine, why don't you tell me if I am sick or not!" Her brows furrowed.
“You are pregnant.“ John replied and her eyes almost fell off from her eyes socket.
“What.“ Ariel said under her breath.
Nobody knew that she was pregnant and it had been just two weeks since she discovered.
She composed herself immediately not wanting to look stupid before John.
“We will talk about it later. And he must have taken some random guess. We can't really leave the life of our father on some mere probation.“ She replied, trying hard to keep her stance.
Just then, the door made a cracking sound making everyone in the hall turn around towards the sound.
Her lips split into a smile immediately after she saw the doctor with his team.
Doctor James was the best doctor in the whole of the City and with him around, she was way too sure that her father was going to get well soon.
“Finally. Doctor James is here so you can always get this piece of thrash out of this place.“
The doctor stormed off towards the old man who was lying unconsciously on the bed with irregular beats.
“This case is getting much worse than it is already.“ They heard the doctor saying.
Turning around towards the Junior doctor, he beckoned on them to bring him the needles for the acupuncture.
Streams of sweat flowed down from the corner of his face as he already knew that was going to be a really difficult task
He was about to start what he was there to do when he was prevented by John.
“Mr. James, what acupuncture method are you going to use on the man?“ He inquired, making everyone in the room turn around towards him.
Helena's face blew out red with anger as she wanted to blow his head off from his body but with her sister there, she already knew that was going to be impossible.
“And who are you?“ He inquired.
“I'm just a young man who knows a lot about medicine.“ He replied, making the doctor hiss loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
“Then you should stick to moving stuff around.“ He replied softly, turning his head back to what he was doing with rising urgency.
He brought out one of the needles placing it by his arm region and another by his stomach.
Watching him closely, John could already tell that he was doing everything wrong.
Even though the doctor was skilled, he was using the wrong method, the old man had been poisoned, and doing that was going to make the toxin flow to his heart region, killing the old man instantly
He could already feel his heart beating hard against his chest as though it was going to burst through not knowing what to do.
As the doctor was about to input the last needle, it fell to the floor rolling towards his direction.
Picking it off from the floor, he quickly placed it towards his heart region so that the toxin was going to flow outwards instead of inwards.
Everyone in the hall gasped with so much shock but that was soon forgotten as Mr. Ken coughed slight, opening his eyes slowly
“Thought it was going to take a while before it works.“ Doctor James whispered to himself.
Ariel and Mabel rushed quickly towards their father with their faces flooded with so much happiness.
“Father.. Father.“ She kept saying as he opened his eyes slowly and ran his hands through his hair.
“I'm fine now. Just feeling a little stuffy in my waist region.“ He said turning around towards Doctor James with a sense of gratitude in his eyes.
“Thank you so much doctor James.“ He appreciated it and nodded his head.
“It was nothing.“ He replied quickly, his eyes interlocking with John and pulling away from him as soon as he could.

JOHN'S POVThe announcement spreads through the Academy before anyone officially confirms it. That's how things work here. Rumors travel faster than notices, and by the time anything is posted officially, everyone already knows.I see it in the way instructors glance at me during training, then at Divo, then back again like they're mentally measuring the distance between us. Assistants linger near our stations longer than necessary. Conversations die when either of us enters a room, then restart in quieter, more careful tones. The tension becomes something physical, settling into my shoulders like weight I can't put down."You feel it too, right?" Thomas says during a break in training, leaning against the wall beside me. "The whole place feels like it's holding its breath.""I feel it," I confirm."How are you doing with it?" he asks."Trying not to run out of breath?" I say.He gives me a look that says he doesn't believe me. I don't push back on it because honestly, he's right not

Chapter 82JOHN'S POVThe Academy hums with quiet anticipation the next morning. I notice it the moment I step into the dining hall. Conversations pause when I approach, heads turning briefly before looking away. Then the talking resumes in softer tones, more careful than before.I grab food and sit with my team. Lawrence looks up as I settle into my seat."Morning," he says. "Slept at all?""Well enough," I lie.Maya studies my face with that direct way she has. "You look tired.""I'm fine," I say, taking a bite of bread I don't particularly want.Thomas leans in slightly. "It's not just you noticing things today. Something feels off this morning. Like everyone's waiting for something."He's right. The shift in atmosphere is subtle but very noticeable throughout breakfast. People step aside for me without meeting my eyes, creating a path that feels less like respect and more like distance. Like they're already positioning themselves away from whatever is coming."Did something happen
Chapter 81
JOHN'S POVThe tea house sits quiet when I arrive, tucked into the eastern corner of the meditation garden just as Elder Ming described. It's a small structure, traditional in design, with paper screens and a low table inside. Steam rises faintly from a kettle already set out, two cups placed precisely across from each other.Elder Ming is already there, kneeling on a cushion with perfect posture. He looks up as I enter and gestures to the cushion opposite him."John. Thank you for coming.""Thank you for the invitation," I say, removing my shoes at the entrance before stepping inside.I settle onto the cushion, feeling awkward in the formal position. Elder Ming seems completely at ease, like he was born to sit this way.He pours tea for both of us with deliberate care. The tea flows from the pot in a smooth line, filling each cup to exactly the same level. He watches my hands as I accept the cup, observing how I hold it, whether I understand the proper etiquette.I hold it with both

Chapter 80JOHN'S POVTraining is interrupted when an instructor redirects me to a different station than the one I am assigned. I'm halfway to my designated workspace when he calls out."John, not that one. Over here."I stop and turn. He's pointing to a station in the far corner, away from where the rest of my team is setting up."I was assigned to station three," I say, checking the board where assignments are posted."Change of plans," the instructor says. His tone is casual but his eyes are firm. "Station seven needs someone. You'll work there today."I glance at station seven. The tools there are modern, unfamiliar in their design. Digital monitors, electronic diagnostic equipment, instruments that require power sources and calibration. None of the traditional tools I normally rely on are present. When I hesitate, the instructor gestures for me to move. "Is there a problem?""No," I say, because what else can I say?I walk to station seven and examine the setup more closely. Eve

JOHN'S POVThe failure of another participant spreads through the Academy before noon. I don't see it happen, but I witness the aftermath in the corridor when the person is escorted past us by two officials. The participant is a young man I recognize from the obstacle course. He'd struggled through it but finished. Now his eyes are fixed on the floor, his shoulders hunched inward like he's trying to disappear. His team stands frozen in place against the wall, watching him pass.No one steps forward. No one speaks. No one offers comfort or solidarity. The space around him empties too quickly, participants backing away like failure is contagious. Like getting too close might infect them with whatever inadequacy caused him to wash out.I stay where I am, not backing away but not approaching either. Just watching as he's led down the corridor toward the administrative building. Toward whatever process removes failed participants from the Academy. When he's out of sight, the corridor stays
Chapter 78
JOHN'S POVI wake with a tightness in my chest that does not fade, I try shaking it off as I run through the usual morning routine but even as I move through the dorm corridors toward the trial hall, the feeling still stays, like a rock that isn't ready to move. Something about today feels different. Heavier. The air itself seems to press down, or maybe it's just me in my head. Groups gather in low clusters along the pathway, watching each other more than they speak. Conversations stop when I pass. Eyes follow my movement. I keep walking, not acknowledging the attention that my presence is drawing. I hate it. The trial hall is larger than the conference rooms we've used before. High ceilings, stone walls, rows of chairs arranged theater-style facing a central examination area. Observers are already seated - officials, family representatives, other participants waiting their turns. When I step into the room, one of the evaluators signals for me to approach. She's a woman I don't rec
