“…now… it’s my turn…”

The whisper slid against Eddy’s ear like a blade made of ice. Too close. Too real. Eddy didn’t turn immediately. He couldn’t.

Because every instinct in his body screamed the same warning, If you move, it will strike.

The mine had gone silent again. Not the tense silence of danger. But the suffocating stillness of something already inside the danger. “Master… Eddy…” the servant’s voice trembled, barely holding together. “Don’t look…”

Eddy exhaled slowly. “…too late,” he muttered.

He turned. Nothing stood there. No creature. No shadow. Only space beside him, faintly distorted, like heat rising from burning stone. But his system didn’t agree.

WARNING: Entity Proximity – 0.3 meters]

Detection Failure: Visual Confirmation Impossible

Classification: Unknown / Concealed

Eddy’s pupils shrank. “…invisible…”

A soft chuckle echoed. “…not invisible…”

The air shifted. A faint outline formed barely perceptible, like darkness trying to imitate a human shape but failing to hold its form. “…unseen…”

Eddy’s breath steadied. “You’re different from the others.”

“…of course…”

The voice carried amusement now. “…those were fragments… I am not…”

The servant dragged himself backward, panic overtaking pain. “Master Eddy, we need to leave now!”

“Leave?” Eddy repeated quietly.

His gaze didn’t shift. “…it won’t let us.”

The thing beside him tilted as if amused by the statement. “…smart…”

Eddy’s fingers tightened slightly. “System,” he said under his breath, “analyze target.”

“Useless…” Eddy muttered.

“…not useless…” the voice corrected softly. “…you simply lack the eyes to see me…”

A faint pressure touched his temple. “…but I can help with that…”

Eddy’s instincts flared. He stepped back instantly. “Don’t.”

The presence paused. “…fear…”

“I don’t trust you,” Eddy replied flatly.

“…good…”

A low ripple spread through the ground. “…trust leads to death…”

The words lingered. Heavy. True. Behind him, the servant struggled to his feet. “Master Eddy, it’s trying to bind to you—don’t engage with it!”

Eddy didn’t respond. Because something else had caught his attention. The mutated core. It was changing.

The black-edged flame no longer flickered randomly. It pulsed. Steady. Controlled. Like a heartbeat. “…you see it…” the unseen entity whispered.

Eddy’s eyes narrowed. “You’re influencing it.”

“…no…”

A pause. “…you are…”

Silence fell. That answer was worse. “What are you talking about?” Eddy demanded.

The pressure around him intensified slightly. “…your blood…”

His chest tightened. “…it resonates…”

The servant’s voice cut in sharply. “Don’t listen to it! Master Eddy, your mother warned.”

He stopped abruptly. Eddy turned. “Warned what?” The servant hesitated. Too long. “…nothing,” he said finally, but the damage was done.

Eddy’s gaze hardened. “You’re hiding something.”

Before the servant could respond, the unseen entity spoke again. “…he knows…”

A beat. “…but not enough…”

The air twisted. Then, for the first time, it revealed itself.

Not fully, not clearly, but enough. A figure. Tall. Distorted. Its form flickered between solid and shadow, as though it existed in multiple states at once.

Its face is incomplete. Featureless. Except for one thing. A faint, curved line where a mouth should be. Smiling. The servant recoiled. “No… that form…”

Eddy didn’t move. “…what are you?” he asked.

The entity tilted its head. “…a survivor…”

A pause. “…like you…”

Eddy’s eyes sharpened. “Then why are you here?”

The smile widened. “…to see… if you are worth keeping alive…”

The temperature dropped. The flame dimmed slightly. Eddy exhaled. “Then test me.”

The servant’s head snapped toward him. “Are you insane?!”

“…bold…” the entity murmured.

Eddy didn’t break eye contact, if it even had eyes. “You said it yourself,” he replied calmly. “Trust leads to death.”

A pause. Then “…good…”

The ground cracked again. But this time, not from below. From the walls. The mine began to shift. Reshape. Tunnels twisting. Stone grinding.

The path behind them collapsed. “Now you’ve done it!” the servant snapped.

Eddy ignored him. His focus sharpened completely. “System,” he said quietly, “combat readiness.”

Combat Mode Engaged, Host Stats Updated

Strength: Increased

Agility: Enhanced

Corruption Level: 31%

“…you adapt quickly…” the entity observed.

Eddy stepped forward. “So do you.”

The figure moved. Not fast, not slow. Just There. In front of him. No transition, no motion. Just presence. Eddy’s instincts screamed.

He reacted instantly, swinging a piece of broken metal toward where its head should be. The strike passed through. Like smoke. “…ineffective…”

Eddy didn’t stop. He pivoted, striking again, this time channeling the flame from the core through the weapon. The air ignited.

The strike connected, for a split second. The entity flickered. Its form destabilized slightly. “…interesting…”

Eddy stepped back. “Flame affects you.”

“…partially…”

The entity’s smile returned. “…but not enough…”

The shadows around them surged. Not from the mine. From the entity itself. They lashed out, Fast. Violent. Eddy barely reacted in time, raising his arm. “System, defensive fusion!”

Activated

The shadows collided with him and were absorbed. Again, but this time, Something was different. The pressure didn’t stop. It pushed further. Deeper. “…yes…” the voice inside him whispered again. “…let it in…”

Eddy’s breath hitched. “No”

Too late. The corruption spiked.

Corruption Level: 39% Warning: Threshold Near

His vision blurred. For a moment, He saw something else. Not the mine. Not the entity. But, A forge. Burning. Massive. And at its center, A woman. Standing still. Watching him. “…mother…” Eddy whispered.

Then, it vanished. He staggered slightly. The entity watched closely. “…you saw it…”

Eddy steadied himself. “…what did you do to me?”

“…nothing…”

A pause. “…that was already inside you…”

Silence. Heavy. Dangerous. Then, the system reacted again.

New Skill Unlocked: Shadow Grasp

Effect: Temporary control of nearby shadows

Eddy’s eyes sharpened. “Control…”

He raised his hand. The shadows responded. Slowly. Unnaturally. “…good…” the entity murmured.

“…now try to stop me…”

It moved again, this time faster. Its form split, Two. Then three. Then five. Each one identical. Each one is watching him.

Eddy’s grip tightened. “System… multi-target tracking.”

Processing…

Result: Only One is Real

“Of course,” Eddy muttered.

The figures began to circle him. “…choose…” they whispered in unison.

“…or die…”

The servant shouted from behind, “Master Eddy, fall back! You can’t win this!”

Eddy didn’t respond. His focus sharpened completely. His breathing slowed. The shadows around him twisted, responding to his will. “Then I won’t choose,” he said quietly.

A pause. “…what?”

Eddy’s eyes darkened. “I’ll take all of you.”

The shadows exploded outward. Grabbing, Binding. Crushing everything in range. For a moment, Silence. Then, A single voice spoke. Right behind him. “…wrong answer…”

Eddy’s eyes widened. Too late. A hand, Cold. Unreal, Pierced straight through his chest. No pain. Just Emptiness. The world froze. “…you’re not ready…” the entity whispered.

Eddy’s body went still. His heartbeat stopped. The system flickered violently.

CRITICAL FAILURE, Host Vital Signs: COLLAPSING

The servant screamed. “MASTER EDDY—!”

The entity tilted its head. “…pathetic…”

Then, Something changed. The ring burned. Brighter than ever before. And the system, Spoke. Not calmly. Not mechanically. But, Urgently.

Hidden Protocol Activated, Emergency Override: FORGE HEART

The entity froze. “…what… is this…?”

Eddy’s body convulsed. His chest, still pierced, began to glow from within. Not black. Not shadow. But, Blinding white flame.

The servant’s eyes widened in shock. “…impossible…”

The entity stepped back. For the first time, Uncertain. “…you… shouldn’t have that…”

Eddy’s eyes snapped open. Burning. “…neither should you…” He said.

The flame erupted. And the darkness screamed.
