Chapter 3 - Karma came early

The Q1 Quest was starting in a few hours in Washington, for businessmen or most people of high social status. Nathan and Kelvin just got to Washington but their company was represented by their COO until they arrived at the venue.

Nate and Kel wore masks that only revealed their eyes as they drove in with the latest edition of the Lamborghini Aventador.

All eyes turned to them, ladies would kill to see the faces underneath those masks.

They walked swiftly as a lot of cameras clicked in front of them, trying to get the best angles of the handsome men and their body guards.

“Who are they? They look powerful!”

“What’s with the smiling masks? They look like robotic experts”

“Their suits look like it was tailored by Vogue”

The comments were increasing but they kept their steps steady as they went to the VIP part of the hall that had the name of their companies on the seats and gracefully sat.

“I feel like the king of the US” Nate said and Kel could hear him through their installed comms.

“You earned it bro,” Kel said but something else caught their attention.

“Who are you to sit in the chair reserved for the NFT Chairman?” A voice from the crowd asked, causing all necks to turn in their direction.

Nate looked closer to realize it was Mr. Pearson and he smiled through his advanced mask.

“Call the security and bounce these masked men out of here” Pearson continued.

“Do you think he is talking to us, Nate?”

“I guess not, it might not be too early to show this old folk that he is at the top of my blacklist” Nate replied. Even the security were scared to touch them, their masks were very precise.

“Are you dumb as well as daft?! Take these men out!” Mr Pearson screamed.

“That's my boss, sir, everyone get back to work” the leader of the security team provided for this event instructed.

“You get a raise man,” Nate said, saluting by hitting his mask. Nate did not want to unveil his mask, these men are wicked even without knowing who they are referring to.

“I will get the four-star General here because you look like fraudsters” Nate made the peace sign with his fingers which aggravated Mr Pearson’s anger so he brought out his phone to call but Uyors arrived.

“Ah! The outstanding fool on my blacklist” Nate said in his thoughts and smiled inside his mask. 

These men haven’t changed a bit. They just walked up to strangers and started threatening them, very welcoming!

Mr Pearson explained to Uyors and he started calling soldiers to come crush Nate and Kel.

If only Uyors knew who they were! Hell would break loose.

“Who are you crushing exactly?” A distinct voice said as he made quite an entrance to where Nate was seated.

“Welcome to Washington Chairman and President of NFT and Security Treats” Mr Atkins greeted them with a smile and sat in the guest seat beside them as a CEO too.

“Is that not the prodigal son of the late Secretary of Defense?” Pearson asked.

“That abandoned his inheritance ten years ago for a woman” Uyors continued while people listened to the chaos with keen attention.

“I prefer the CEO of Atkin’s Construction but yes, that’s me although I am not really prodigal-like. My dad and I came up with that to protect me from people like you while he forgot to protect himself too”. Atkins replied fiercely pointing fingers at Uyors.

“They must really be the NFT Chairman and President if Mr Atkins is honoring them,” a man from the crowd said.

Nate smiled through the masks which annoyed Pearson and Uyors.

Mr Pearson and Uyors left knowing they had already offended the chairman.

Uyors couldn’t stop thinking about Atkins’ last words and he was determined to find out what Atkins knew.

“How did you know it was us?” Kelvin asked.

“I know your security uniforms, they’re new to Washington but I’m very familiar with most of your bodyguards in Tennessee.” Atkins said proudly.

It would have been disappointing if he invested in Nate and he blew it away or took the capital to have fun.

For the short time he knew Nate, he understood that Nate was unstoppable and would be wealthier than him in no time. Oh! Nathan is actually wealthier now.

“You didn't tell me you were the son of the late Secretary of Defense, that was the only man who stood by me back then, it’s sad he died and his case was closed,” Nate said to Atkins.

“Well, I didn't know you knew him and I changed my last name too, anyway we can talk about my late dad later and why the masks?” Atkins said chuckling and they joined him because whoever didn’t understand the technology behind the mask would find it amusing.

“I should probably tell you about that later too, it's nice to meet another good man in America” Nathan said as they exchanged handshakes.

“Gentlemen and Ladies of the elite businesses of America, we are starting the presentations, while interested investors connect the good deals,” the host said and all presentations started.

Elena is as pretty as she was, if not prettier as Nathan thought. She presented for her father's health insurance company but Nathan intentionally didn't sign with them but he signed many others.

Mr Pearson got frustrated as a huge number of investors were interested in NFTs! He already pissed off the chairman and it seems karma came too early.

It happened too fast, Mr Pearson wasn’t ready to face the embarrassment. “May the new Q1 Quest’s Champion, NFT Limited, come to the stage for a toast and dismissal note”. The host said, smiling at Nathan's direction.

Kelvin urged Nathan to take the stage which he did. The host offered him the microphone but he rejected it.

“My mask has an authentic microphone, so good evening dear business elites of Washington,” he said strictly as he adjusted his suit.

A lot of people wanted that mask, a multipurpose hilarious thing.

“I noticed most businesses leading here are owned by grandpas’ when there are young men in the labour market.” He said staring at Uyors and Pearson who looked threatened, more furious than ever.

I hope Washington is ready for my team and I because we will be revealing a lot.” He said and smiled cunningly as the crowd cheered.

“Cheers to new beginnings and downfall of old blood,” he said as he walked down the stage, every step commanding power.

“The Pearsons’ are hosting a gala to celebrate new partnerships next week and with that we have come to the end of this year's Q1 Quest. The NFT chairman has the highest new projects so cheers to new partnerships, Shalom!” the host said as pictures started.

Finally, after a decade plus, someone beat Pearson’s in the number of projects funded during the annual Q1 Quest.

“Dad, do we have something to announce? Why the gala?” Elena asked her dad as their driver drove them home.

“Yes princess, your engagement with Damien Uyors”
