5: He Has Returned

"Lord, we have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I know you couldn't be dead. I just knew it."

Soldiers scurrying around attending to their injured colleagues glanced at General Nikolai, wondering why a grown-up man like him would be on his knees sobbing.

If they knew why he was sobbing, they would join him!

When Kairos Lockwood joined the Veloran army at the age of twenty-one, he, Nikolai, was paired up with him to assist him.

He watched how Kairos fought valiantly on the battlefield and achieved many exploits. 

In just three years, Kairos became known as the only Godly Supreme in the world! The War God that no one ever saw coming. 

Every soldier, army, and even country would tremble just at the mention of the 'Godly Supreme'. 

During Kairos' five-year reign in the army, the capital region of Atlantis was invaded, and the Emperor's son was abducted. 

In a fit of rage, Kairos himself led just a hundred thousand army to attack the enemy's territory. The enemy was quite formidable and had over a million troops of soldiers!

But Kairos and his men annihilated the entire army, not leaving anyone behind! It was a battle that lasted long hours! The first to be recorded in the history of Atlantis country, which ended in victory. 

With just that battle, he became a revered war god. The Capital Atlantis Emperor and other nobles gave him acres of lands. They made him ruler of many territories, particularly in the Northern region.

He was nicknamed 'The war god of a dynasty'. The Emperor personally gave him the royal seal to command the Veloran army. 

The army grew more powerful under Kairos' command that he gained ten elite guards who were respective generals in different provinces all over the country.

Every state in the country was terrified at the mention of his name. Unexpectedly, at the peak of his power, Kairos suddenly stepped down and resigned. He wanted to return home and live peacefully.

Not only the entire Veloran army, the emperor, the nobles, and other officials in different countries were disheartened by the news. The army swore to welcome him back anytime. He just had to say the word, and he would regain his seat.

However, after Kairos left, he suddenly disappeared without a trace. Many rumors sprung up. Some people said his enemies had gotten to him and killed him.

Others said he was being held captive. Some people said he must have erased his identity. 

But now the Godly Supreme has returned!

"Nikolai, listen up!" Kairos barked into the phone impatiently.

He has been out of the army for years and is not aware that many things have happened in his absence. For instance, Nikolai was now a general, not the former little assistant who followed him everywhere.

"Yes, sir!"

All the soldiers at the battlefield halted and turned to Nikolai. Who could make their general talk so respectfully and submissively?! 

"I am going to send a phone number to you now. Find its location immediately."

"Yes, sir!"

Tut-Tut!

The call ended immediately. Kairos plucked his brows in fury. Everyone has their bottom line that mustn't be toyed with. For him, his wife and his son were his bottom line!

As soon as the call ended, dark webs of different countries were activated, and many military districts were in a state of emergency. 

Five choppers could be seen in the air, hovering over the Atlantis country, and within an hour, the helicopters landed on the outskirts of Velora city.

General Nikolai and several armed soldiers came out of the helicopters. When they saw Kairos, they all fell to their knees in one sync.

"Report to the Godly Supreme!" General Nikolai stood to his feet and saluted. "We have gotten the location where the call was made. It's from some abandoned warehouse here in Velora."

Kairos' brows knitted, and he clutched the phone tightly. "They have my son."

Gasps rippled across the soldiers. Was it from shock that the Godly Supreme had a son or the fact that some death seeking fools dared to abduct his son?

"Let's go. We will skin them alive and execute their entire family!" General Nikolai recovered from his shock and urged the soldiers.

He helped Kairos into his own personal chopper, and they took off.

At that time in an abandoned warehouse located in a desolate residence at Velora city, about a dozen heavily built, armed men bundled a little boy that appeared to be six or seven years into a van with no number plate. 

THWACK!

One of the thugs was slapped hard on the face by the driver of the van who was wearing a pair of glasses, a hat and a windbreaker. He is the leader of the gang, Charles. 

"You useless fool! I asked you to keep watch on a little child but you couldn't do that! You even let the little brat sneak a phone in and call someone! You dumbass!"

The heavily built man cowered in front of his boss and apologized. "I'm sorry, boss. I only stepped out to take a piss. I didn’t expect—"

"Perhaps I should cut off that little thing of yours so you wouldn't be able to take a piss anymore and concentrate properly on your task!" Charles snapped at him, causing him to shrink fearfully.

"It won't happen again, boss. We already smashed the phone and knocked out the brat. He won't cause any more trouble for us."

"What's the use?" Charles hissed, his fingers tightening around the steering wheel of the van. "Our location has already been exposed. We are not safe here any longer."

After saying that, Charles started the van and stepped hard on the accelerator. As the van sped out of the desolate residence, the burly man that had received a slap suddenly raised a question.

"Boss, why did that person pay so much for us to capture this boy and even go to this length to keep him alive? Wasn't he abducted to be killed?"

Charles took a slow drag of the cigarette he had popped into his mouth and puffed out. His lips twisted in a small, sinister smile.

"The little brat must be kept alive. They need his heart. The organ is useless if he dies."

HISS!

An eerie silence filled the van as it sped forward.
