the new chairman

"What? The corporation has already arrived at such a dire state? Charles, didn't you tell us that day before that the shareholders' dividends will be rising? You couldn't have been lying to us, right?" One of the shareholders who usually did not care about the company's affairs asked with a worried tone.

"Our stock market has collapsed? Even the channel merchants have terminated their contracts? Then how are we going to sell off the products that we have been stocking up?" One of the shareholders in charge of the jewelry and jade raw materials factory asked too in panic.

Another female shareholder could not sit still and watch as everything collapsed before her. Since the current situation was related to her own interests, she could not care less about James and Charles's dignity as she questioned them on the spot, "James, Charles, what are the two of you who are usually in charge of the company doing? Now that such a big problem has occurred, won't the two of you give us an explanation?"

James's face turned bleach pale as if he had seen a ghost. At this moment, he still did not know who he had offended for them to actually sabotage the Harrison's Jewelry Corporation.

James looked at Charles and said, "Charles, have you come up with any solutions? The key problem now is that someone is obviously pulling the strings behind the scene and targeting our group."

However, Charles was also at a loss of what to do as his face turned ashen.

"For now, we should figure out the person responsible for pulling the strings. We can then see if there's still any room for negotiations," Charles said helplessly.

The two leaders could not figure out who they had offended.

After all, who had the power to be able to cause the Harrison Group to be on the verge of bankruptcy within a day?

Seeing that even the two leaders were helpless, the meeting room became even more restless as the shareholders fell into further discussion.

*Knock! Knock!*

At this time, the bespectacled female secretary entered the meeting room once again with an urgent expression on her face.

"Vice Chairman, someone called us just now. It's Secretary Wesley of the Ning Group of the East Sea. He wants to talk to you about matters regarding the Harrison Group this time," the female secretary said with a serious tone.

"Looking for me?" Charles replied in confusion.

Everyone present was too confused. After all, shouldn't the person be looking for James, the executive director, first?

Why would they look for Charles? Could it be...?

At this point, everyone in the room could deduce the reason for that person's request as they all swept their gazes towards Charles with doubt.

"Charles, does this matter have something to do with you? Did you somehow offend the Ning Group of the Eastern Sea?" James questioned Charles with a cold expression.

What a joke! After all, how could someone from the Harrison Group dare to collide with a huge monster like the Ning Group of the Eastern Sea?

With just a single word from the Ning Group, the Harrison Group would go completely bankrupt!

"How... how could I...?" Charles quickly denied all connections with them.

"We'll soon find out. Pick up the phone and turn on the speaker. Let's see what the Ning Group of the Eastern Sea has to say," James said coldly.

Although he was the executive director of the Harrison Group, in reality, the businesses in his hands had nothing to do with Charles.

Each of them occupied half of the Harrison Group's territory and held 30% of the shares.

If Charles was the main reason why their entire group had to suffer, James would immediately become hostile with him despite being brothers of the same blood.

At this point, Charles was under a tremendous amount of pressure. Without a choice, he picked up a phone call from Wesley in front of all the shareholders.

"Are you Charles?" On the other end of the phone, Wesley's voice was very cold.

"Yes. Wesley, hello," Charles responded politely.

"An hour later, we will convene a large conference, so please notify all the management of the Harrison Group at once. Our Ning Group will come over to talk about the acquisition of your company. Remember to also call your son, Derek, to come over," Wesley said faintly.

"Yes, of course!" Charles quickly replied as he did not dare to offend Wesley.

With a beep from the phone, Wesley finally hung up the call.

Charles — his face bleach pale — felt a great sense of unease after hearing the mention of his son's name.

After the call ended, all the shareholders present looked at Charles with even more hostility and suspicion.

"Since the matter is urgent, we will convene the meeting at once! Notify the entire management of the company and wait for the people from the Ning family to come over," James said in a serious tone.

In less than half an hour, the Harrison Group had gathered the entire management department of more than two hundred employees into the large meeting hall.

James and Charles were both waiting at the door for the Ning Group's arrival.

Three hours later...

The atmosphere in the meeting room had become extremely tense as everyone waited nervously.

Despite arguing for two hours prior, they still could not pinpoint the conclusion to this urgent matter.

At this point, the Ning Group of the Eastern Sea had simply shown an excellent display of their true strength as the Harrison Group waited for two more hours in fear.

Even James and Charles, the two people in charge, walked anxiously up and down the corridor outside the meeting hall, waiting for the people of the Ning Family to arrive.

They did not even dare to make a phone call to question them, afraid that they would offend them.

"James, should we make a phone call just in case? Are the people from the Ning family really going to come today?" One of the shareholders could no longer stand waiting in vain, for the experience was far too painful and torturous.

"Father-in-law, I think we should disperse for today. When the Ning Group's people arrive, it won't be too late for us to gather for a meeting," James's son-in-law, Sterling, suggested probingly as he too could not sit still any longer.

"We can only wait. After all, the lifeline of our group is already in the hands of the Ning family," James said seriously.

"Dad, what's going on? Are the people from the Ning Group not going to come after all?" Derek asked in doubt. Although he may be a general manager of the Harrison Group's branch company, he had no idea why Wesley would specifically ask him to attend the meeting.

"Does the Ning Group of the East Sea have what it takes to be so arrogant? They actually asked 200 people from the Harrison Group to wait for a mere secretary?" Derek said with utter dissatisfaction.

"Shut up, you idiot!" Charles scolded coldly. "What do you know? Do you even understand what the word 'Ning' means? You only know how to cause trouble for me every day. I don't even know if it's because of you that such a huge disaster fell upon our company this time!"

The atmosphere once again sank into a depressing mood as everyone present felt incomparably tormented in their hearts.

Although there was air conditioning in the meeting room, many of the people from the management department and even the shareholders were drenched in sweat.

At this moment, a young man suddenly walked into the meeting along with his business team and two other lawyers.

"Everyone, let me introduce myself. I am the person in charge of the Ning Group's acquisition of the Harrison Group, Wesley," Secretary Wesley said with a serious expression.

"At the same time, I will also be the new acting chairman of the Harrison's Jewelry Group who will be handling all the matters of the corporation in place of Director Ning."

After saying that, Wesley pulled open the chair that belonged to the chairman and sat down in a bold manner.

The position of the chairman had been vacant ever since Old Master Harrison passed away, for even the two leaders of the Harrison Family — James and Charles — regarded themselves as the executive directors.

"This!"

As such, all the members of the Harrison Family present revealed ugly expressions on their faces.

However, they were afraid of accidentally offending the Ning Group of the Eastern Sea and wanted to settle the matters related to the company without any troubles. Thus, no one dared to say a single word against Wesley's actions.

Wesley smiled faintly upon seeing the expressions of everyone from the Harrison Family before continuing, "It seems that many of you have yet to comprehend the situation you're currently in."

"At this moment, I possess 55% of the shares of the Harrison's Jewelry Group in my hands. In addition, I'm also in full control of 20 jewelry factories under the corporation and 30 jewelry flagship stores."

"I believe no one will object if I take the position of the chairman, right?"

Wesley's words sounded like a drum that thumped deep into everyone's minds, causing them to fall silent.

"These are the documents regarding the acquisition plan. Everyone, please take a good look at it."

As he spoke, Wesley asked his team to distribute the copies of the documents to the shareholders present.

All the shareholders present wore solemn expressions as they read through the documents and pondered deeply.

"Who is Derek?" Wesley suddenly asked lightly.

"I am. I wonder what business you have with me, Chairman Wesley?" Derek said honestly with a fawning expression.

"What is your position in the company? Is it your turn to talk here?" Wesley said as he swept his cold gaze towards Derek and threw a seal at him.

*Thump!*

When the seal collided with Derek's stomach, he felt as if he had been smacked by a hammer. As the pain surged upwards from his stomach, he vomited all the food he ate prior to the meeting onto the conference table.

Derek fumed with anger since he felt that he had been wronged and humiliated by Wesley. Although he gazed at Wesley with pure hatred in his eyes, he did not dare to say a single word of rebuttal.

At this point, he still did not understand why this secretary from the Ning Group would target him.

"Everyone, I originally wanted to talk about proper business, but the venue seems to need a bit of cleaning," Wesley said lightly.

"Okay, Chairman Wesley, I will arrange for someone to clean up the venue immediately," Charles immediately said with a flattering expression.

Although Charles wanted to help his son, he understood better than anyone else about their current situation and quickly learned to humbly lower his head.

"Ha," Wesley sneered. "There should be a rule in the company stating that whoever does the deed shall take responsibility."

Charles revealed a stiff smile before turning around and scolding Derek, "You useless son, how dare you act so rudely in front of Chairman Wesley? Clean this place up quickly before you embarrass me any further!"

"Are you going to make me repeat my words?" Wesley said lightly as he looked back at Charles with a sharp gaze. "The things that you vomited out, take it back in. In other words, I want him to lick the table clean. Hurry up!”

Madam Ashford, the old master’s widow, has taken over everything—connections, businesses, influence… all of it.”His voice darkened. “There are fortune tellers all over Imperial City talking about it.
