“Follow me! Follow me!” squawked Cresty, the yellow-crested parrot. With its beak, it tugged at something inside a hole in the earthen wall. Suddenly, the wall rumbled and slid open, revealing a hidden passage.
Neil Li’s eyes widened. How could a parrot know there was a hidden way here? He suspected Cresty had once been trained by someone—perhaps by whoever built this old hut and designed its underground prison.
As Quincy and Cresty slipped into the tunnel, the entrance sealed itself behind them. Moments later, Benedict Kong stormed into the chamber where Neil was chained.
“Who destroyed the barrier?” Benedict snarled, his sharp gaze drilling into Neil’s eyes. “How are you still alive in this place?”
“Heh! Fortune still favors me. If you truly wanted me dead, why not kill me outright?” Neil smirked faintly despite his broken body.
Benedict laughed cruelly. “Why kill you, when I can savor your suffering? Your agony is my delight! Perhaps I’ve been too merciful. Maybe it’s time I tightened the screws.”
He summoned blazing chains of gold, wrapping them tighter around Neil’s neck and ankles. Heat flared—smoke and the stench of burning flesh filled the air.
“AAAAARGH!” Neil’s scream tore through the chamber until his throat went raw.
Benedict’s smile widened. He relished the man’s misery.
“Ka-kak-too-a! Traitor! Benedict Kong, traitor! Ka-kak-too-a!”
The mocking cry rang out from outside the hut. Cresty’s shrill voice rattled the villain’s ears, making him wince. Enraged, Benedict stormed toward the door.
---Meanwhile, after Quincy and Cresty had escaped the tunnel, Neil’s agonized screams reached them. They froze.
“We can’t leave him behind,” Quincy muttered. “We have to save Uncle Neil!”
“Ka-kak-too-a!” Cresty bobbed its head in agreement.
Quincy turned to his Divine Staff. “Staff, can’t you break the bars and the golden chains?”
“Easily,” the staff’s voice replied. “But you must first learn the third technique, and channel far more Spiritual Energy than before.”
“Then teach me—quickly!”
Quincy sat cross-legged, shutting his eyes. Images of new movements burned themselves into his mind. When he leapt up, determination blazed in his eyes.
“Cresty!” he shouted. “Distract that man! I’ll free Uncle Neil!”
The parrot flapped away, shrieking louder. Benedict Kong roared in frustration, his focus torn.
Quincy seized the chance. He dashed back into the chamber and unleashed the third technique.
His right foot stepped forward into a firm stance. The staff spun in a horizontal arc, glowing with Light Spiritual Energy, then struck.
Shuuut! Shuuut! Shuuut!
The bars shattered into molten fragments. Quincy swept his hand, guiding the Divine Staff downward. It smashed aside the burning shards, then rotated into a horizontal strike.
Bugh! Bugh! Bugh! Bugh! Bugh!
The golden chains broke instantly, snapping one by one. Neil collapsed to the ground, barely conscious, his weary eyes filled with disbelief.
“Why… why risk yourself to save me? You could’ve run. Why take such a gamble?” Neil whispered hoarsely.
Quincy didn’t answer. His only thought was how to move a man so frail with his small frame.
The Divine Staff pulsed. “Allow me, Master. I’ll carry him.”
“Good. Let’s go!”
The staff slipped beneath Neil’s back, lifting him effortlessly as it floated after Quincy.
Meanwhile, Cresty’s distraction worked perfectly. The parrot cackled outside, taunting the enraged vice-principal.
“Ka-kak-too-a! Benedict Kong fool! Fool! Prisoner escaped! Ka-kak-too-a!”
“DAMN IT!” Benedict’s voice thundered. “Who dares mock me? Show yourself if you have courage!”
But Cresty only laughed louder, leading him away from the escaping pair.

18. The Black Ape
Hearing Elder Python’s revelation, Quincy Dungsworth finally understood. Perhaps that was why his parents had abandoned him and sealed his power—to hide his identity from those who would hunt him. That meant he could never reveal his true abilities carelessly. Clenching his fists, he muttered with resolve:“I must become the strongest! I’ll find them, no matter where they are in this world. And I’ll never let anyone harm them again!”He turned and bowed deeply to Elder Python. “Thank you for this truth, Elder.”In one month, Quincy would turn nine. That day would also mark the Institute’s advancement examination. He was the oldest among the Class One disciples, most of whom were only seven. His growth was astonishing—each day he mastered one new technique of the Divine Staff flawlessly. After a week of training, Quincy prepared to thank the Serpent King Tham Fang for granting him a place to practice, before departing for the Valley of the Ape King to confront Lu Tung, the Black Ape.B

“Yes, a Teleportation Seal Scroll,” the Divine Staff explained. “A single-use scroll that reacts based on the rune inscribed upon it. I don’t know the exact details, but perhaps you could ask the Headmaster of the Ironhart Institute once you return, Master.”“Hm…” Quincy Dungsworth nodded thoughtfully.Since the battle had ended in disappointment, Quincy decided there was no reason to linger. He turned to leave and search for a training ground—but the Serpent King Tham Fang appeared before him, accompanied by Elder Python.Quincy stiffened, caught off guard by the imposing half-serpent figure. “What do you want of me, Your Majesty?” he asked, folding his hands and meeting the serpent king’s gaze with steady eyes.“Gratitude,” Tham Fang said, bowing his head ever so slightly. “I’ve heard you intend to venture into the Valley of the Ape King. If there is any way I can repay my debt, name it.”Quincy’s lips curled into a faint smile. This is the perfect opportunity.“Then allow me to tra

“Hahaha! Since I will soon inherit my father’s position, of course I must gather more power! I want your Black Spirit Gem, Serpent King!” shouted Belleron Yong.“Tch! Step over my corpse first!”At once, a pitch-black aura engulfed Serpent King Tham Fang’s body. He had activated his Spirit Gem—the sign that he was ready to fight to the death with his full strength.Belleron Yong was no less prepared. He too activated a Spirit Gem—the stolen White Spirit Gem.The clash between them was ferocious, so intense that not a single soldier dared to intervene. The armies on both sides remained still, only watching their leaders battle from afar.Whuuuush!Boom! Boom! Boom! The impact of their collision hurled both combatants down to the ground with bone-crushing force.Bugh!Blood gushed as their innards tore apart.Belleron Yong grinned through a mouthful of blood, droplets splattering onto the earth. “Hahaha! I didn’t expect them to have such a trick to escape me!” ---The incredible speed sent Quincy’s stomach lurching. His head spun, ears rang, bile rising.“Urgh!” He gagged, vomiting mid-flight. “If not for the fact I want to live, I’d never do this again!”“My apologies, Master,” said the Divine Staff guiltily.Quincy clutched his chest, channeling his healing light into himself until his body steadied.“Haaah…” He exhaled in relief. “No—I should thank you. You saved me from the Serpent King.”“It is my duty,” the staff replied solemnly. “Just south from here, we’ll reach the Monkey Demon Valley.”“Oh, I’ve been waiting for this. Let’s go!” ---Hours later, Quincy entered a dense forest filled with monkeys swinging from branch to branch.“T
14. Encounter with the Serpent Demon
“The first layer of the Demon Valley?” Quincy rubbed his chin thoughtfully.“Yes,” replied the Divine Staff. “This layer is ruled by the Serpent King, Tham Fang. Though other demons dwell here, all bend the knee to him.”Quincy continued down the ravine. Every serpent demon he passed eyed him with suspicion, their gazes sharp and probing. To them, a human in the valley was an anomaly—a threat.“Human child,” a voice hissed suddenly.“Who’s there?” Quincy spun.A massive python, two meters long, slid into view. Quincy’s breath caught—then the serpent shifted, becoming an old man with weathered skin and slit-pupil eyes.“If you have no business here, leave at once. Should the Serpent King learn of you, you will not escape alive.”“That’s impossible. I must reach the dwelling of the Ape King, no matter the danger.” Quincy’s tone was firm. Two smaller snakes slithered away, clearly to report. The old serpent’s frown deepened.“You should go. They will summon the King.”“Thank you for the

Below, nobles abused peasants, cruelty rampant.“Pay them no mind, Master,” the staff whispered. “You are not yet strong enough. He knew it was right—he was still too weak to interfere.Soon, they soared above the Wind Clan’s land. Quincy’s eyes widened as he witnessed a man bound between two poles. Before a wailing crowd, a guard raised his sword and—Shhhk! The blade fell. Blo
