Inhaling deeply, August clutched the edge of his wheelchair and tried to lift himself. Perhaps if he was able to reach where Caroline was and hug her to console her, then she might stop crying.
That was what he thought, but it didn't seem like his legs agreed to it. The more he tried, the harder it was for him but he kept trying. Caroline, who was crying looked up to see this, and a smirk curled up on her sorrowful face. “What are you planning to do? Get up with those condemned legs? “You are helpless already so I see no reason why you'll want to waste your energy. Have you forgotten you wanted to leave before? Just save that energy for your mistress. I'm sure she will need it.” Caroline rebuked coldly and even chuckled to her heart of contempt. However, August ignored her and kept on trying to get up. He was determined to prove her wrong, but first, his legs had to agree to it. He kept pushing. His teeth gritted as he cursed at his weakness. He used to be a fearsome man, someone who controlled the twelve-battalion armies. He was the same man who nations feared as his powers alone were unrivaled. He could take on a thousand armies all by himself yet now, his fate seemed to be tied to a chair. This was an insult, humiliation, and disregard for his title in the army. All these thoughts stirred up something in him and his grip tightened and this time, his crippled leg twitched even though it was just a little, it was a sign that perhaps he could get up. “Tch! I am tired of all this!” Caroline was already tired of standing there and watching him. She thought he was going to give up and remained there just like the cripple man he was, but it seemed she was mistaken. If that was the case, then perhaps she had to step up and end things for once. Angrily, she walked off to the cupboard that was beside the massive bed and pulled out a check. Some sign of tears was lingering in the corner of her eyes as she walked back to where he was and wrote some figures on it. After drawing her signature, she shoved the check on his chest before retorting. “That's a check of one million dollars. Take it and leave. Perhaps reunite with your mistress and live a lavish life.” Then she pulled away and the tears she was holding back, poured down her cheek. The million was the last money she had in her account, but it didn't matter. In the Winston family, it was a tradition that whenever the children became adults, an amount of ten million dollars would be assigned to them to start up a business. Caroline, who was a hardworking woman and very brilliant, in just five years, was able to transcend that money into a billion-dollar company. That attracted so much enemies among her peers in the family and thus even her grandmother coveted her asset and made sure she did everything she could to take it all away. Now all that's left was just a million with her, while her grandmother and her brother had taken everything. But then it didn't matter, if this money could be used to part ways with August then she was so much ready to give it up. August saw this, but he wasn't concerned about the money. What he cared about was nothing but her. “Please, Caroline, just one more day. Give me one more day, and I'll bring everything to light.” He pleaded, but she shrugged. “I am already defeated in the family conflicts, and staying with you won't bring any benefit. We will be shamed and maltreated. You can’t even stand up for me and worst of it you are seeing another woman! I'm giving you a few hours, pack your bags and leave!” She said, and with that, she walked away. She was done with him this time, lest she kept on facing more ridicule and shame in the family. Her chest tightened in sadness, but her mind was made up. There was no going back. “No, Caroline, wait! Wait, please!” August pleaded with red eyes. He stretched his hand out hoping to get a grip on her and as a result, he fell off his wheelchair. However, he wasn't concerned about the pain, instead, he still wanted to reach out to her. But then she didn't stop. He clenched his fist, and suddenly, he began to feel something, an overflow of Qi in his body. His meridian started to strengthen alongside his muscles. This was shocking as he didn't expect it to happen today. Stunned and speechless, he tried to get up but fell on the floor right after, and mistakenly he hit the wheelchair, and it was sent stumbling away. Bang! The impact sent an alarming sound roaring throughout the room and unexpectedly Caroline's mother, Rachel, who was passing by happened to hear it. This made her furious and she angrily started walking towards the room. “You good for nothing, what are you up to this time? Are you trying to steal something inside my daughter's room or what? Pray I don't catch you myself.” She roared as she walked through, but after opening the door, her jaws were left falling to the floor. Reason being, in the middle of the room, August was standing with both legs and was seemingly exuding a terrifying aura she had never seen before from his silhouette.

There was nothing but emotions stirring inside him and now that he could finally walk again, of course, he would stand by her side and make sure she was never bullied. “August?” Caroline muttered in shock. Not long ago, she left him at home, still seated on the will chair so what in the world was going on? Hearing her say his name, his heart fluttered, but right after, he grabbed the documents on the table. Without going through it, he clasped the edge and tore it into pieces. He twirled his head only to find her eyes that had emotion in them. Furthermore, he knew she wanted to apologize and thanked him for defending her, but he didn’t thin

A deadly glint flashed in August's eyes. Finally, it was time for revenge, but he wouldn’t just go all out on them yet. Though his legs were functioning now, he was just at the warrior level of cultivation which wasn’t much of a feat when he would face those men. If they were able to cripple him, though it was after he was weakened after fighting the war, they had to be strong people else they wouldn’t have succeeded. Well, at least he had a lead now, and with David by his side, he could start up from somewhere. Sighing, he put the phone away and dragged the bodyguards out of the office downstairs, and hurled them out in the street. His voice held a hint of threat, one that signified he was going to crush his throat if he didn't swallow it.“Plea–” Richard wanted to beg but as a result, the venom was able to slip down his throat.Seeing this, August pulled away smiling. “Now this is a final warning. “Be a good boy and open your mouth so I can empty this venom inside.” The man in suit turned towards August grinning as he spoke, taking him like a fool and someone who would easily be forced to do something out of fear. All fifteen men gathered stepped forward and were facing him. There was no way he would dare to say he wouldn't do as he was told.“Be fast. We staked a lot of money on you. Or do you want us to pin you on the floor and feed the poison to you by force?” Another man asked while the others began to chuckle.“I'll give you a chance. Give that venom to Richard over there, and then I might let you live.” August said with a deadly aura that seized the tension in the air. The men shuddered looking into his eyes that was like a void but soon after, they were quick to shrug the feeling off. “What are you doing? Above all, there was a strong smell of smoke and liquor up in the air.Seeing he stopped, the man looked at him and smirked, as though trying to infuriate him.“Are you scared to come in? There was no news from David about Sniper or if he was spotted around.Caroline was safe and sound and so was he. He wasn't facing any trouble at all. Meanwhile, after August got out of the company, he waited for a while for David to join him before they started driving away, heading to Apex Corporation. August's attention was somewhat divided, half was focused on the road while the other was on David.“What's wrong? Talk to me.” He asked, curiosity getting the best of him.“I don't know who did this but August I don't think it's safe for you to keep being in this city or anywhere around Caroline,” David said, panicking.August didn't know what made him say such a thing but if he were to guess, he would say there was something or a danger that was coming and hanging around Caroline would put her at risk. His heart palpitated. The thought of it alone sent shivers down his spine. David looked at him before continuing. “Do you remember Sniper? Both of them exchanged a handshake and also pleasantries. They began to have a little conversation, and from the looks of it, they might even become friends soon enough. However, August, who was behind reading through the document, now had a change of expression on his face. He looked at the ladies conversing and spoke.“Don't sign this contract Caroline.” He said, causing everyone to turn in his direction wondering why he would say such a thing. It was already a good thing that they were getting more deals, but he was out to destroy it or what? Fredrick, who didn't have a good impression of him, looked disgusted. He hated men who had to always depend on their wives for everything. He was supposed to get a job but since Caroline was rich, he had become so lazy and clung to her. Now he had the guts to say she shouldn't sign the contract? What the heck was wrong with him? Hearing this, August looked over the kitchen counter to find his phone but then after he did, he noticed it wasn't the one ringing. He exchanged glances with Caroline before he looked behind her towards the couch and saw it was her phone that was ringing. “It's mine. Sorry, I'll pick it up now.” She stood up and walked towards it while he nodded and waited for her.“Hello,” she answered the phone quickly, putting on a serious look.“Hey boss, we just received a new contract application from a new company. I just have to call in and inform you about it.” It was Geoffrey, he sounded anxious.“A contract deal? From who?” Caroline was awed but at the same time she was curious as to whom it might be.“It's better if you can come to see you by yourself.” Fredrick advice.“Is that so? Give me a few minutes. I'll be there.” Caroline said and with that, the call came to an end.Her expression gave it off that something was off so August asked.“Hey, what's wrong?” He asked. She looked up at

August drove Caroline to Pearl Villa and both of them settled down. She was surprised to see August had already selected feminine clothes and stuffed them into the wardrobe just for her. That wasn't all, he decorated her room in stylish pink similar to her room back home, but this was one was more. It had so many things, such as a small library, a dressing room, and a collection of both shoes and bags. It and been a while since she had gotten into the room and ever since, she hadn't said a word as she was struck in awe.By the side, August studied her expression, waiting for what her comment was going to be. Perhaps it wasn't up to her taste, but he made sure to do the best could.“If you don't want it, I can call house management to come and set the room again to your liking.” He asked after a while of silence.“Huh? Turning to see them, Rachel's eyes sparked. Her backups had arrived and not only would she be able to send August away, she would even put Caroline in her place for disobeying her.“Do your job and beat this person up. You can wound him, cripple him, just dump him out like trash. I don't care.” Rachel said, pointing August to them.“Mom, how can you say that?” Caroline was in utter disbelief after hearing what she said.“Shut up. He asked for it, so I'm giving him exactly what he wants.” She sneered before looking back to Tom. “Do it now.” She ordered. Both Tom and Ezra turned to look at August cracking their knuckles. However, they couldn't help but remember what had happened previously. August easily defeated Ezra without putting much pressure on it and that earned him some days in the hospital.Should he call that luck? Or perhaps it was because it wasn't the two of them at that time that was why he was able to take Ezra down? Regardless, they had to beat him up today. However, Aug
