“A divorce?” August repeated the words as he clenched his fist tightly. Though he could see she was trying to intimidate him into giving out what she wanted to hear but then, in no circumstances was he ready to part ways with her.
“I still love you. I won't agree to the divorce.” He said with a straight face, and she was forced to look at him. “Is that so? Then tell me the truth, or do you want to be forced to say it? Remember no one gives a damn about you and if you keep pushing me to the wall, you will hate it!” She said in a threatening tone. Although divorcing him wouldn't be that easy, not because she wasn't willing but because her grandmother who forced the marriage upon her just to subdue her wouldn’t want the divorce to go through. “It's better if you don't know. Moreover, it isn't like it will be beneficial to you.” August said helplessly. “So it's true, huh?” She suddenly said, and her hand flew to her mouth. Lately, she had been hearing rumors and his stubbornness had given it all out. If at all he was going for something that wouldn't hurt her, he wouldn't have hesitated this much before giving it out. “What?” August raised a brow as her, trying to comprehend what she just said, and also the glint in her eyes told him otherwise. “Rumors have it that you are seeing someone behind my back. Tell me, even a cripple like you do cheat, huh? “Do I look like a weak, stupid, vulnerable woman who had no common sense to you? Or perhaps those casual girls one can find in a brothel? You think you can just keep me by the side while having other girls swooning all over you?” Caroline cried even harder and broke down on the floor. When her friend told her her husband was going to see a mistress who was he supporting financially, she couldn't believe it. At first, it never dawned on her that someone like August would have the audacity to see another woman beside her. Now, she was able to connect all the dots. The tens of thousands of dollars that had been missing for a month was used to take care of another woman. The thought of this made her feel like hitting her head on the wall to vent her anger. This pain in her chest was just so consuming. She felt used, toyed with, and taken for a fool and worst of it was by a crippled man. What would become of her now? Her friends laughed and called her several names, but she condemned their words saying it was all false accusations only for it to turn out to be true. Damn it! She cried even more loudly. “Caroline, no! Who told you that?” August couldn't help but feel angered by this. Who dared poison his wife's mind with such nonsense? No one was as beautiful as her. She was like a crystal moon that brightened his life and no woman on this earth was comparable to her. Even a single bit! “Caroline, those are all rumors. Don't cry, please. I swear I am not seeing any woman.” He said with bitterness in his heart and wheeled his chair towards her but she quickly crawled meters away from him. “Stay away from me! Don't come any closer! I hate you!” She yelled in frustration. Her eyes and cheeks had turned swollen due to the excessive cry, and it didn't look like she would stop anytime soon. “Caroline,” he called out nevertheless. Her words cut in so deep into his chest like a dagger, but it was better he consoled her than watching her cry which was much more heartbreaking. “I swear on my late mother, I am not seeing another woman,” August said but the more he spoke, the more his words sounded more of an excuse to her. Sniff! Sniff! “I don't want a man who has nothing to offer but instead depends on a woman. I want a man, I want a hero, someone who I can depend on, someone who can tell me e everything will be alright, someone who can hold my hands and promise me a good future.” She finally said after crying for a while. She then sniffed hard to control her tears before pulling out a necklace she had been keeping hidden in her pocket. The necklace was a simple emerald necklace, but it was worth so much in her heart. Just then her memories drifted back to three years ago. She was on a business trip heading to another town when several armed men ambushed her car. After seeing them, she realized a war had broken out in the area, and she had mistakenly found herself driving on a battlefield. However, there wasn't a way out of this anymore. She watched how the men approached her intending to toy with her before killing her off. As the men approached her, she felt miserable. They dragged her out of her car and threw her to the floor. She could still remember their vicious words as they planned on how to use her while she kept praying for someone, perhaps a hero to come to her rescue. “Hey! Let her go!” Suddenly, someone roared out of the blue, and the men were forced to turn in the direction. Caroline also did and saw a man in his twenties clad in a military uniform. He had long hair that spread across his shoulder and some strands covered part of his face. Though she couldn't see his face completely, she was awed by his handsome features. The way he was built, the way he stood, his voice, everything stood out from all the men in this world. At that instance, she found herself in a trance, admiring this man to the point of drooling and even forgetting the situation was in. “Punk, who are you? This girl is ours! You better leave now, or we will blow your brains out!” The men said and pointed the muzzle of their guns at him. But then instantly, the man wearing the military uniform was no more, and next thing all the men holding guns were left sprawling on the floor. Each of them passed out and in a distorted state. “You are safe now!” He appeared again beside her, offering a helping hand so she could stand. After she did, she asked him for his name, but he only gave her a necklace before leaving. ____ Ever since then, her heart yearns for him, but fate never allowed her to meet him. Staring at the necklace, a smile appeared on her face and she spoke. “This is the only man I've ever loved and will ever love. This man saved me on the battlefield and ever since, my heart has been yearning for him.” She said and stood up. “I will never love you, August Reed! Never.” She snorted with disdain in her eyes. Meanwhile, while she was busy staring at the necklace and venting out her emotions, August's eyes widened in shock. He remembered that necklace. He was the one who gave it to her four years ago.

Back at the villa where Bruce was.A smile crept on his lips as he already knew everything was now playing by his fingertips. He was in total control now. How come he didn’t know about this and try it all this time?Well, it didn’t matter. Those people who were killed deserved it. They were foolish and incompetent. This was the biggest profit ever. Indeed, he would reap a bigger benefit.Just then, a call came into his phone. He took a glance, and after seeing it was General Enderson, he didn’t hesitate to pick up.“Hello, General.” A smile crept on his lips as he spoke.“Hello, Mr. Bruce. I saw your message. Ooh, I am so grateful. You have my full support. In fact, Maxwell Spencer doesn't dare to go against the orders he was given. He already knows that if he does that, a

Maxwell was stunned. He never expected that Bruce, who called not long ago to threaten him, would be able to pull off such a move. Is he making the president bend to his rules or what? Maxwell thought to himself. As much as it was very hard to believe, he had no choice. The president sounded angry as he was talking to him; it was like he wasn't concerned about what position Maxwell held, but instead, he held Bruce in much higher regard than him. What the heck is going on? Should he choose between the president and August Reed? That was such a tough challenge for him. In just a little time, sweat had broken out of his pores already.“Hello, are you there?” The president called out again as there was no response. Maxwell was forced to snap out of his nerve-ending thoughts. He swallowed hard as suddenly his throat had turned sore and was hurting a lot.“Sir, I don’t think this is a good idea.” Maxwell immediately spoke to try and open his eyes to the visible fact, that even if not take

... Inside the ward, as August and Caroline walked in, they saw Shadow leaning on the headboard, seemingly resting. There were many bandages all over his body and signs of pain on his face. But, since he was awake now, gradually he was going to recuperate. That was a fact everyone knew. “Boss, you came?” He asked as he looked at August. Before he could reply, Caroline did. “He had been here all along. He only went out to settle a few things, but now he is back.” Perhaps she didn’t want Shadow to feel like he was nothing more than a subordinate to August and he didn’t care about him. If he knew, he might become sad, so instead he stepped in to explain. August looked at her and sighed before he looked over to Shadow. “How are you feeling?” He asked. “Better. I think I am healing already.” Shadow smiled. “Caroline, now you can go home at least, huh? You have been stressed out all day. You haven’t even eaten. I am sure of it. Meanwhile, back in the hospital. After August walked in, he came across Alpha One, who was waiting by the front of the ward. He looked stressed out, and what was more, there was an injury on his face. At once August frowned. This had never happened before, so he was able to conclude that he might have faced a tough opponent, and this was the result.“Who did this to you?” August growled as he got to where he was.Alpha One was busy with his thoughts and didn’t notice him until he heard his voice. He also noticed his figure hovering around him. He looked up at August's face only to see him frowning.August might be heartless to his enemies, but when it came to his people, one would be able to experience his soft side.“I met a strong opponent. He is at the late stage of the immortal realm,” he replied, his face scrunched up. Though there was a high chance that he would have won the battle, if not for WhiteFang pulling off such a wicked trick on him, by now Alpha One might have kille
