“A divorce?” August repeated the words as he clenched his fist tightly. Though he could see she was trying to intimidate him into giving out what she wanted to hear but then, in no circumstances was he ready to part ways with her.

“I still love you. I won't agree to the divorce.” He said with a straight face, and she was forced to look at him.

“Is that so? Then tell me the truth, or do you want to be forced to say it? Remember no one gives a damn about you and if you keep pushing me to the wall, you will hate it!” She said in a threatening tone.

Although divorcing him wouldn't be that easy, not because she wasn't willing but because her grandmother who forced the marriage upon her just to subdue her wouldn’t want the divorce to go through.

“It's better if you don't know. Moreover, it isn't like it will be beneficial to you.” August said helplessly.

“So it's true, huh?” She suddenly said, and her hand flew to her mouth. Lately, she had been hearing rumors and his stubbornness had given it all out.

If at all he was going for something that wouldn't hurt her, he wouldn't have hesitated this much before giving it out.

“What?” August raised a brow as her, trying to comprehend what she just said, and also the glint in her eyes told him otherwise.

“Rumors have it that you are seeing someone behind my back. Tell me, even a cripple like you do cheat, huh?

“Do I look like a weak, stupid, vulnerable woman who had no common sense to you? Or perhaps those casual girls one can find in a brothel? You think you can just keep me by the side while having other girls swooning all over you?” Caroline cried even harder and broke down on the floor.

When her friend told her her husband was going to see a mistress who was he supporting financially, she couldn't believe it. At first, it never dawned on her that someone like August would have the audacity to see another woman beside her.

Now, she was able to connect all the dots. The tens of thousands of dollars that had been missing for a month was used to take care of another woman.

The thought of this made her feel like hitting her head on the wall to vent her anger. This pain in her chest was just so consuming. She felt used, toyed with, and taken for a fool and worst of it was by a crippled man.

What would become of her now? Her friends laughed and called her several names, but she condemned their words saying it was all false accusations only for it to turn out to be true. Damn it! She cried even more loudly.

“Caroline, no! Who told you that?” August couldn't help but feel angered by this. Who dared poison his wife's mind with such nonsense? No one was as beautiful as her. She was like a crystal moon that brightened his life and no woman on this earth was comparable to her. Even a single bit!

“Caroline, those are all rumors. Don't cry, please. I swear I am not seeing any woman.” He said with bitterness in his heart and wheeled his chair towards her but she quickly crawled meters away from him.

“Stay away from me! Don't come any closer! I hate you!” She yelled in frustration. Her eyes and cheeks had turned swollen due to the excessive cry, and it didn't look like she would stop anytime soon.

“Caroline,” he called out nevertheless. Her words cut in so deep into his chest like a dagger, but it was better he consoled her than watching her cry which was much more heartbreaking.

“I swear on my late mother, I am not seeing another woman,” August said but the more he spoke, the more his words sounded more of an excuse to her.

Sniff! Sniff!

“I don't want a man who has nothing to offer but instead depends on a woman. I want a man, I want a hero, someone who I can depend on, someone who can tell me e everything will be alright, someone who can hold my hands and promise me a good future.” She finally said after crying for a while.

She then sniffed hard to control her tears before pulling out a necklace she had been keeping hidden in her pocket. The necklace was a simple emerald necklace, but it was worth so much in her heart.

Just then her memories drifted back to three years ago.

She was on a business trip heading to another town when several armed men ambushed her car. After seeing them, she realized a war had broken out in the area, and she had mistakenly found herself driving on a battlefield.

However, there wasn't a way out of this anymore. She watched how the men approached her intending to toy with her before killing her off.

As the men approached her, she felt miserable. They dragged her out of her car and threw her to the floor.

She could still remember their vicious words as they planned on how to use her while she kept praying for someone, perhaps a hero to come to her rescue.

“Hey! Let her go!” Suddenly, someone roared out of the blue, and the men were forced to turn in the direction. Caroline also did and saw a man in his twenties clad in a military uniform. He had long hair that spread across his shoulder and some strands covered part of his face.

Though she couldn't see his face completely, she was awed by his handsome features. The way he was built, the way he stood, his voice, everything stood out from all the men in this world. At that instance, she found herself in a trance, admiring this man to the point of drooling and even forgetting the situation was in.

“Punk, who are you? This girl is ours! You better leave now, or we will blow your brains out!” The men said and pointed the muzzle of their guns at him.

But then instantly, the man wearing the military uniform was no more, and next thing all the men holding guns were left sprawling on the floor. Each of them passed out and in a distorted state.

“You are safe now!” He appeared again beside her, offering a helping hand so she could stand. After she did, she asked him for his name, but he only gave her a necklace before leaving.

Ever since then, her heart yearns for him, but fate never allowed her to meet him.

Staring at the necklace, a smile appeared on her face and she spoke. “This is the only man I've ever loved and will ever love. This man saved me on the battlefield and ever since, my heart has been yearning for him.” She said and stood up.

“I will never love you, August Reed! Never.” She snorted with disdain in her eyes.

Meanwhile, while she was busy staring at the necklace and venting out her emotions, August's eyes widened in shock. He remembered that necklace. He was the one who gave it to her four years ago.

  • Just one man?

“Huh?” Nyx's eyes widened in shock as he heard this. Then it felt like his ears were hurting, otherwise, how could August ask him to kill the head of the Charles family? Wasn’t that stupid? Even if he might have a shot at killing him, will the Charles family let him off? Of course they wouldn’t. His life would be ruined. How could he take such a risk?Subsequently, a frown emerged on his face.“I can’t.” He uttered. As for Vincent, he breathed a sigh of relief, like a giant boulder had just been lifted off his chest. If Nyx had accepted the offer and killed him, though the Charles family would never let him off, nothing could have been done to return his life to him. He valued his life above anything else, so staying alive was his top priority.“You can’t? Then do you prefer to die instead?” August said coldly, his eyes still holding the usual deadly glint.“I….” Nyx gritted his teeth as he tried so hard, racking his brain to think of a solution, but nothing was coming to his mind.

  • Spare me please

Under Nyx's command, these men swiftly moved around and surrounded August, trapping him in the middle. There were twenty of them, and including Nyx, a total of twenty-one guns were aimed at the middle. Each of them already had a finger wrapped around the trigger button, and what was left was for Nyx to put out the order, and the next thing, there would be a rain of bullets at August. He was going to die. Everyone was sure of it. It takes the impossible to survive a bullet, not to mention twenty-one of them. It was something that had never happened in history before, and today wasn’t going to be any different.By the side, Thane was smiling heartily. Even though his face was looking so distorted, making his smile creepy, that didn't matter to him even the slightest. All he wanted was August's demise, and since he could get to witness such, today ought to be one of the best days in his life.“Any last words?” Nyx asked, a hint of sarcasm in his tone as he smiled, feeling like he was c

  • All twenty of us

Vincent was ready to bring down his pride to any level as long as he would be saved. How could he lose his limbs and end up a cripple or bedridden like his son? What would be the fate of the Charles family again? Wouldn’t they be doomed?“Wait!” Nyx suddenly roared. “Mr. Charles, I can take him on, but you’ll have to double the money.” After a while, he added. He seemed to have thought things through about August's strength and fighting style. He was a martial artist who might be beyond his comprehension, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t be brought down.In a battle, only the smarter ones could get out of any tough situation, and compared to August, he was way smarter, and that was because he had a plan up his sleeve.“Double the money? What?” Vincent gasped in shock. Even August was amused by this, so he turned to look at Nyx. “That Pagani is just thirty million, and I want to cover up the expense in exchange for you to kill this punk, and yet you dare to charge me double? Isn’t th

  • Please, I beg you!

“It seems these people are stubborn too. They dare to make a move, huh?” August muttered to himself with a deadly glint in his eyes. He looked at the car David was driving and signaled him.“Drive through.” Then he looked ahead to the men who had now started charging through and blocking the path so David wouldn’t be able to drive out of the place.“Hmph, still trying to show off? These men could crush rocks, yet you dare to think you can run them through with your car? What's worse, at this speed rate? These punks aren’t only stupid, they don’t have brains either.” Vincent chuckled as he watched this.“My men are as tough as a concrete wall itself. You think you can get through? Let’s see.” Nyx said too, smiling. Both of them were waiting to see how things would turn out, the way they had already foreseen. However, what came in next was so shocking that their eyes widened, almost falling out of their sockets.August was standing in front and was kicking their men as though he were pl

  • Five percent of my power

The place became silent once again. Everyone looked at August, waiting to hear what he was going to say. Would he deny it, or would he tell everyone right here and now that he was August Reed and face the danger? In common sense, in the face of such danger, anyone would deny their identity just to survive, right? So many thoughts were revolving around everyone's head.At this point, even the visitors who were about to leave the Brown family villa were now trapped and forced to watch these. Their path had been blocked by more than sixty people, so there was no way they could get through. As for the Brown family, they had angrily walked back into the mansion, but as for Thane, he managed to gather himself up and walked to the gate as he heard a few sounds not long ago. When he saw this, he was surprised and at the same time very excited. Now was the time to get back revenge on this punk for slapping him so hard that he was forced to lose some teeth from his mouth.“Mr. Charles, Mr. Nyx,
