Creak!

The cranking sound of a wheelchair resounded in a pathway as a young man in his late twenties wheeled himself toward his wife's room to meet her.

As his hand reached for the doorknob and was about to pull it, he heard a furious roar.

“Let me guess, you are leaving again, aren't you? Is that what you have come to tell me? Huh? August reed! Tell me! Is that what you came to tell me?” Caroline, his wife who was drowned in her never-ending thoughts, upon noticing it was him, bellowed with red eyes.

“Yes, I have to go, Caroline. But I promise I won't take long,” August replied as he went ahead to push the door open and wheeled in.

Hearing this, Caroline was more furious. The frown on her face deepened, and she looked around looking for something she could use to vent her anger on him.

Just then, she caught a glimpse of a glass cup beside her and without thinking twice, she grabbed it and hurled it at him.

Ever since she married August, her life had never been the same. She was molested, disdained, and even looked down upon by her peers. Even her family didn't take her seriously anymore and thus the business she was handling was facing a serious backlash.

The Winston family had always valued men to be controlling family business and thus, had been biased upon the females.

Caroline has been the most hardworking among all, but to suppress her and abolish her rise to power, she was manipulated by Ms Winston, her grandmother to get married to August and become just a regular housewife instead of competing with her brother.

Now she was tied to this man, all he had to do was make things worse for her. Though she wasn't angry at him for her grandmother's unfairness, she just couldn't ignore the part where tens of thousands of dollars had been missing from her account on every day he was absent for over three years now. It was just too much for her to take in.

Bang!

The teacup smashed August’s leg while its contents spilled on his leg. A burning sensation coursed through his leg and he winced a little.

His eyes looked unto his legs and his memories drifted to the past. Three years ago, while he was still in the military, he went to war and fought some decisive battles but eventually, he was ambushed by some rigorous enemies who were out to take his life. Though he came out victorious, it cost him a lot and that was why both his legs were disabled.

Ever since, he had been having it worse. Everything that he owned before was lost- his unimaginable strength, his identity, and even himself. It felt like his life now revolved around the wheelchair he was in, and he felt useless and hopeless not until the day Caroline married him.

He felt hope surge inside him and ever since, he had loved to the moon, but it seemed his feeling wasn't reciprocated. Perhaps his disabled legs made him have a lesser value to her.

On the other hand, Caroline shivered a little after seeing what she had done. Her anger took hold of her, and she did what she wasn't supposed to. The guilt in her chest became a giant boulder weighing her down, but after she thought about what he had cost her just for marrying him, anger surged inside her again.

At once, she stood up from the bed and stomped her way towards him.

“Tell me, where have you been going to for three years now?

“Every single day in each month, tell me where, and how you make use of my hard-earned money. Because of you, my life has been messed up.

“My brother mocked me and called me a weak woman. Tell me, where and what do you use the money for?” Caroline was beet red as emotions were going haywire inside her.

Staring at her, August nibbled his lips tightly. It wasn't like he couldn't tell her, but it was supposed to be a secret in the meantime. When the time was right, he was going to explain everything in detail to her.

“Caroline, please, don't be sad. I promise I'll tell you when the time is right.” He said with a pleading gaze, but this made her fumed in anger.

To her, she felt he was lying, and even with how she was bawling her eyes out, crying, it didn't appear like he had any sympathy for her.

All she could see was a cold-hearted cripple man who was hiding something from her. If he loved her, he wouldn't let her cry this miserably before spilling the beans.

“You! You are going to tell me all of it today, or I will kill you!” She couldn't hold it any longer. Even though she didn't mean her words, she only wanted him to give it all out.

Quickly she reached for his neck and started pressing it, but August could tell she wasn't putting pressure so she wouldn’t harm him. She wasn't a ruthless person and he could tell. After all, she was the same person whom he fell in love with.

Seeing he wasn't still giving in, she pulled off and changed tactics.

“Caroline, listen to me please,” August said again in a bid to console her, but she didn't look like she would hear anything from him apart from an explanation for where he always went.

“It seems you are not going to talk, huh?” She took a few steps back and sighed. Then, she began to rack her head up for anything, and in the end, she could only think of one thing that would be the best thing for the both of them.

Wiping off the dry patches of tears on her face, she tuned in to look at him, forming a straight face.

“We are getting a divorce!”

“Casper Zhou, I can see you have fallen so much that you can't be saved. How can you be so heartless to kill a fifteen-year-old?” August fumed in anger. He had seen people being wicked, but this man was the most heartless person among all. Such an innocent kid, yet it felt like his life wasn't relevant to him.“Speak for yourself, August. How many people have you killed while you were in the military? Don't speak to me like you are the only righteous one here.” Casper sneered. Then be continued.“I don't care if I have to use an infant to kill you. As long as you are dead, it doesn't matter to me.” He added, but then it dawned on him that something was wrong. Munites had passed, yet Rowan's body hadn't detonated and what's more, August's body wasn't becoming pale even after he was poisoned.Instead, it was like…he paused, trying hard to not believe his thoughts and accept that fact that he had been tricked.Seeing this, his confused stare, August stopped putting up and acting and st

  • I was asked to do this

August arrived at the massive mansion. His gaze was like the scorching sun that was out to set anything on flames. As such, anger was burning inside his veins. He wanted to kill someone. He wanted to kill Casper, making sure to end his life in the most miserable way ever.Shortly, Alpha one walked towards him. “We wanted to engage him but be sent out with a warning saying no one is allowed to enter unless you or else he is going to kill everyone.” He said.“He knows he has no shot at escaping, that's why he is making such a deal. He thinks he can end me. I know he will still detonate their bodies as soon as I go in. Damn that man, he is quite a sly fox, huh?” August said while rubbing his temples.“We should charge in and end him once and for all August. Regardless, there would still be casualties, so it’s better to just go in numbers and end things quickly.” David suggested. Sometimes there had to be sacrifices.August had taught him that in the military, and he felt it was time to

  • Casper’s plan

Meanwhile, in Pine Estate off Madison Street.Casper was seated in a big mansion while sipping on some red wine. Before him was Rowan tied up on the floor after being knocked out. A deadly glint settled in his eyes as he looked at the boy before he muttered to himself.“You will be my master plan to kill August. Hahaha. Today, I shall deliver your corpse to the council, and not only will I live a stress-free life from today, but I will be compensated with billions too. Who could have thought that killing you would be worth so much?”He dropped the wine glass to the side table before intertwining his fingers together.“After all, it’s expected of a man of your caliber. Don’t blame me. You are just too strong.” He said before his lips curled up. However, in the next moment, his expression turned into a frown.Bang! The door was pushed open, and a man rushed into it, looking panicked. His heart kept beating heavily in his chest as though it was going to burst out of it. He looked at

  • We have found Casper!

Silence reigned for a while, making Maxwell doubt if the call was still connected. He had to recheck his phone and when he saw the call was still on, he spoke again.“Hello, Mr. Davis, are you there?” Only then was there a response.“Yes, you are to stand down and not intercept. Alexander Reed isn’t someone your military force can take on. I will warn you not to engage him or else your country might suffer a great loss.” Davis warned.“Huh? The reason I called you is that I want you to put him under your control. Isn’t he just a captain who’s under your command? How bad has your military fallen that you can’t control just this one man?” Maxwell mocked.“I dare to say again and see what will happen! You should know more than anyone that no one can stand our military force and August Reed has and always will be unrivaled even in your country. I will warn you now not to let fake news get into your head or else it will cost your lives.” Davis warned. However, he was still angered that Au

  • To apprehend you

While they were in the car driving away, it didn’t take long before several calls came into August's phone. He wanted to ignore them but then, more kept coming to the point that he became pissed and was forced to pull his phone out to check who the caller was.“Hello, who is this?” The frown on his face deepened as he spoke, looking uninterested in whoever it was.“August Reed, how brazen of you to ignore my calls. Do you know what you are doing?” A voice roared on the other side, one that was filled with so much anger and a powerful aura.August's eyes widened as he recognized whose voice it was, and then his face turned pale.“Supreme commander?” He finally said while David looked at him, stunned.“Ooh yes. I have been calling you and yet, you aren’t picking up. Do you not know what you have done and the kind of ruckus you have set up there in Oakdale? I am ordering you to withdraw the dragon unit now once and for all, or you are going to face my wrath.” The man warned. However, h

  • He is scary

By the time he got out, it seemed like the cloud had turned so dark and heavy after being influenced by several imposing auras. There was a thick rustling in the air that was capable of blowing anything off its path. However, August stood in the middle of this looking like he could control the weather, but then it was just his outstanding aura that was causing a fuss in the place.James stood frozen by the door, unable to approach him. He was in a daze, seeing so many men before their house.Even the neighborhood was frightened by this and had sealed their door close, thinking the worst was about to happen. The further they stayed away from it, the better.“It’s nice to see you again, master. Please allow us to be of service to you.” All twenty of the men said, including Alpha One. David was already in one of the old military vans that was driven here trying to get an answer from the man he had captured.August sighed before he looked around started. “It’s nice to see you comrades.
