Morris ran to the backyard, sweating profusely, but there was no one there, not even Christian.

"Fuck! Where are the Sargent family? Where is my asshole son!"

Morris roared loudly in the backyard.

"The Sargent family," a maid said in a trembling voice, "they left already."

"What?" Both Morris and Teressa exchanged their glances.

Teressa frowned at the maid, "what do you mean by they left, how can they leave without meeting my husband?"

The maid shook her head as she had a lot to say, "actually they didn't leave by themselves, they left along with young master Chris."

"Huh?"

Morris's emotions looked unstable as at that moment a mixture of confusion, anger, and frustration filled in him hearing to the words of that maid.

While he had waited for hours, expecting to meet them, but all he had received was a message from a maid saying they had already left with Christian, the useless guy in the house.

"Why would the Sargent family leave without meeting me? That too why is that bastard taken away by them?" Morris muttered, with a racing mind.

He clenched his fist while his thoughts were spiralling, "Did they come here for me? Or… was it for Christian?"

The idea of Christian being the reason for their visit seemed ridiculous to him, "yes, a boy like Christian, useless and troublemaker, couldn't have caught the attention of a family as prestigious as the Sargents."

He tried to convince himself that there's nothing big in this for him to concentrate about though a lingering doubt pressing in his mind.

Just then, Teresa decided to play her role carefully to eliminate Christian forever using this opportunity, "Chris, I've been waiting for this chance for a long time, now I'll teach you a lesson!"

Standing beside him, she gently held his arm with her sparkling showing off hidden malice, "I think Chris is the reason behind them leaving without meeting you!"

Morris looked at her sharply. "What makes you say that?"

Teresa sighed, with a soft tone as if she is concerned about her husband while her thoughts are nothing but full of venom. "Well, isn’t it obvious? Chris must have fooled the Sargent family somehow. He always loves to pretend to be innocent hiding his malicious side, so who knows what kind of lies he used to make them believe in him," leaning closer to Morris, she whispered, "Don’t you think it’s strange they left with him and didn’t even meet you, the master of this house? Don't you suspect anything here?"

Morris frowned, but Teressa looked satisfied as she successfully planted the seed of doubt in Morris's head against Christian.

Thinking about Terresa's words, he sat in the couch with a loud thud, "so do you think Chris orchestrated this?"

"Come on Morris, you're so naive, why isn't it possible? Don't tell me you think of him as an innocent boy," Teresa pressed further, "That boy has always been manipulative from the beginning, he knows how to play the victim card, to make people feel sorry for him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he saw the Sargents as an opportunity and jumped at it, to ruin us and our reputation."

Understanding his mother's motive, Ivan also joined the conversation adding fire to his father's anger, "Father, I… I don’t want to speak ill of Chris, but…"

"But what?" Morris sighed rubbing his temples in frustration.

Ivan lowered his gaze, as if he is reluctant to speak, "Even in the college, brother used to talk ill about our family, because of his lies everyone thinks that we are harassing and abusing him, some of my friends started making fun of me while calling me the son of an abuser, I never thought of mentioning this with you."

"That bastard, how dare he do something like that?" Morris gritted his teeth with extreme anger, Ivan nodded his head and continued, "I thought brother did it out of jealousy but never thought he would be this… blackhearted. To deceive such a powerful family and ruin your reputation in the process? It’s hard to believe, but maybe he always has intentions of making us bad, Dad."

Morris’s expression darkened after hearing to all these.

The mere thought of Christian betraying him, and manipulating the Sargents for his own gain, enraged him "That useless rat, he is going to pay for this."

Teresa seized the moment, with a sweet tone. "You’ve always been too lenient with him, Morris. Perhaps it’s time for us to use the strict method on him only then he'll be the obedient son of this family. Remember the residential school I mentioned? They’re experts in dealing with unruly children like Chris, why don't we send him there?"

Morris glanced at her, remembering the school she mentioned, "You mean the one where they train children to be obedient?"

"Exactly," Teresa said, and her eyes were lighting up while speaking, "They’ll teach Chris discipline and respect. And he won’t have the chance to pull any more stunts like this."

Ivan nodded, his expression serious. "It might be the best option, dad, for Chris's sake, and ours."

Morris stood abruptly, his towering frame casting a shadow over Teresa and Ivan. "Fine," he said coldly. "I’ll send him there immediately that boy needs to learn his place."

Pulling out his mobile immediately from the pocket, Morris made a call to his assistant and barked an order. "Find out where the Sargents have taken Christian. I want to know everything, every detail about their location, immediately."

The assistant nodded quickly, and hung the call to know the whereabouts of Christian.

Teresa smirked, satisfied that her plan was in motion. She reached for her teacup, sipping delicately as she watched Morris pace the room, with extreme anger.

In her mind, she envisioned Christian’s suffering at the residential school, she mentioned, it's a place where young children are treated as slaves, and to her it's a perfect punishment for a boy she had always despised. "Don’t worry, Morris," she said with a smile inwardly, "everything will be taken care of personally by me, and I bet once he goes there, he'll never return!"

  • USING MY OWN WORDS AGAINST ME?

"Umm," Christian looked away for a second, fingers tugging lightly at the edge of the blanket as if buying himself time."Like you’re measuring me," he said finally. "As if I’m something that needs constant evaluation." Adrian blinked once. "You're too good at misunderstanding things, actually that’s not what I’m doing." Christian glanced back at him. "Then what are you doing? What's with that stare of yours?":Adrian hesitated. Not long.Just enough."That look," Christian continued quietly, "you wear it when you’re preparing for danger, I’ve seen it before, but right now, nothing’s happening… so why are you still looking at me like I’m about to be hurt? Why do you always think I'll be in danger? Am I that weak in your eyes? Do you think I can't protect myself or am I incapable of protecting myself?" The room fell into a stillness that felt heavier than silence.Adrian exhaled slowly and leaned back against the couch."You were never weak in my eyes, you're the most strongest pers

  • DON'T FLATTER YOURSELF

"That role," Adrian said while stressing the word 'role', so that Christian would understand regarding what he is saying, "if it makes you feel heavy or stressed, it's okay to decline." Christian frowned slightly. "I didn't feel heavy or stressed, so stop worrying about how I feel, and start worrying about how to get healed quickly." Adrian studied his face calmly, there were no signs of stress, hesitation, not even fear.Just… Confidence, that's all he managed to see in both Christian's words and eyes. The automatic doors slid open with a soft hiss.Outside, the afternoon air felt too bright after the hospital’s sterile lighting, and a black car waited at the entrance for them.Riven opened the door immediately. "Careful, my lord." Christian moved instinctively, placing one hand on Adrian’s shoulder, steadying him as he stood. Adrian leaned on him, only slightly, but the shift was unmistakable.

  • BOSSY!

"To call me," Adrian clarified with an awkward face, "that word again, so that next time it'll sound more natural when you use it infront of others, in that way people will not suspect."Adrian used up all the stupid excuses, just to make his son to call him dad, though his actions felt silly to himself, yet he didn't hesitate.Christian’s ears turned red instantly, "Oh." Adrian’s lips twitched. "If you're uncomfortable, you don’t have to force yourself." "Who said I'm uncomfortable? I said I’d try," Christian said defensively. "Since I've said it already, I'll do my best." "You also said only in front of others, didn't you?" Christian glanced down, then back up. "Hey why are you pushing all the blame towards me? Don't you know why I've said it like that?" "No, I don't know..." "It's because of you," Christian stared at Adrian with an accusatory look, "you lectured and almost scolded me for addressing you

  • IT IS NECESSARY

"The promise," Adrian said reminding Christian of their earlier conversation. "About walking away if it gets dangerous, I never thought you'd have short term memory loss, do you?""I've no such disease for godsake!" "Then why did you forget it that easily? It's not even an hour." Christian tightened his jaw. "I didn't forget it, it's just I didn't pay much attention because I already answered, if you can't remember my answer, it's better if we go through another scanning to check what's wrong with your brain.... Should I talk to the doctor about this?" "No thanks," Adrian forced a smile, "I'm fine, and to be frank, you didn't answer, it's called dodging, you better learn the difference in between both terms." Christian exhaled slowly. "I can’t promise to abandon someone I care about, that's not in my blood, even you've no right to ask such a promise from me, I hope you clearly understand my answer now." Adrian’s eyes darkene

"Mr. Adrian," Christian gently asked, "What do you want to eat for lunch? I'll order now."Adrian smiled with a calm look, "anything is fine." "Yeah... Yeah," Christian grinned, "we both can eat anything right now after eating the food you cooked." Adrian who understood Christian is teasing him, rolled his eyes, "be grateful that I taught you how to be humble..." "With your cooking skills, right?" Christian continued it for him, both of them laughed at their own joke, and Christian became busy in scrolling through his mobile in order to choose their lunch from a good restaurant.Adrian asked out of curiosity, "which restaurant are you choosing?" "One of the most popular restaurants," Christian smirked, and that smirk made Adrian wonder, "did you win a lottery or what?"Christian proudly answered, "I already won a lottery by being my mother's son no need to win another one." "I didn't understand!"
