Ethan froze, and a wry smile appeared on his face as he tried to understand what was going on. His wife, whom he had invested his effort, given his support, and loved even more than himself, after getting promoted, felt like he was no longer fit to be her husband.
Then it was this man, this scion of the Hale family, that was now her class since he was rich and classy. “Punk, don't think too much about it. You don't even deserve such beauty like her. Look at you; you look like those beggars on the street. How do you intend to polish her lifestyle?” Logan stepped in and spoke discriminatingly. “Look, divorce her, and I can buy you an Audi car so you can become a Didi driver. I am sure you'll make better money over here than here,” he continued. Ethan looked at him, and anger flared up inside him. He clasped the towel in his hand. His teeth were gritted tightly. This man had the guts to ridicule him because his wife gave him the opportunity to. So this is what he gets, huh? He ignored Logan and looked at Amelia. “Is this what you really want?” he asked to be certain. If this was what she wanted, there was no need to force her lest he turn into her enemy as time went on. “Yes. This is what I want.” Amelia replied, staring deeply into his eyes. He smiled bitterly before grabbing a pen she dropped for him. Then he scanned the document only to see she had already signed her part. Her mind had been made up indeed. Without further hesitation, he signed the papers before handing them to her. Seeing this, Amelia froze. Something twitched inside her, and for a brief moment, she felt like it was her loss. She kept staring at his signature, feeling conflicted, when Logan walked over and picked it up. “Now your wife is mine. If I see you anywhere around her, I will chop your legs off.” He warned before sliding his hand around Amelia's waist. “Let’s go, baby.” He pulled her towards him and began to lead her away. She flashed one last stare at Ethan before looking away and walking off. Ethan watched them, still sad. Now he had seen how important money and status were to a man. His wife of three years had left him on their day of anniversary. Such a wicked fate indeed. As the feeling was consuming him on the inside, he suddenly remembered that lady who came earlier claiming he was some young master or perhaps a chairman of some group. “I forgot to ask for her name.” He sighed and pushed the towel away. His thoughts wandered to the card and ring she gave him earlier. She did say the pin was his birthday date, right? If that was true, then it was time to test it. He suddenly felt the urge to, and this made him wrap things up quickly. Thereafter, he checked in with the manager before boarding a cab and driving over to Nile City Central Bank. When he walked up to the entrance, he looked up at the several floors of the bank. His heart began to palpitate inside his chest—he was extremely nervous. But now, he was here already, so there was no going back. He inhaled deeply and was about to walk in when he heard a feminine voice. “Ethan? Is that you? What is your wretched self doing in a place like this?” He looked over only to see his mother-in-law Charlotte, and her second daughter, Fiona, walking towards him. Both of them had a mocking look on their faces as they sized him up. “Oh, I heard my sister divorced you,” Fiona said sarcastically. “He has been the one dragging her, so of course she had to dump him. Look, he is nothing but a trash bag. He can never be comparable to Logan Hale.” Charlotte added. “You should go home and pack your things. It isn't like you have anything of value, but still go and take them out. Your belongings are like a bad omen to us.” She added. “Or else we will pile it up and burn them up.” Fiona chirped in ruthlessly. Ethan sighed. He hadn't gotten a break from what happened between him and Amelia yet he had her mother and sister to deal with. He decided to ignore them and walked in when Charlotte grabbed him by the hand. “Where do you think you are going? A lowly punk like you dares to walk out on me?” she sneered. However, just then, she noticed a mysterious ring on his finger. Her eyes immediately squinted at it. “Where did you get this ring from?” She asked. Though the ring didn't look fancy or like it had any value, she was sure he stole it. Ethan hissed and immediately snatched his hand away. A frown emerged on his face as he retorted. “It's none of your business.” “None of my business? How dare you steal from my daughter? Do you think you will go scot-free? Over my dead body, you ugly punk.” Charlotte's face scrunched up into a frown. She was ready to take it out on him since he wasn't complying and acting so rude and arrogant in front of her when he was nothing but a bottom feeder. “Fiona, come, let’s teach this punk a lesson. He thinks he can leech off us and get away,” she fumed in rage and immediately attacked him. Bang! However, seeing how she jumped at him, Ethan was stunned, andat the same time, irritated. Does this woman not know when to stop? Frowning, he dodged her attack, and she stumbled to the front before falling on her face. Thud! The impact created a dull sound, and her face was immediately covered with dirt from the floor. “What did you do to my mom?” Fiona's eyes widened, and she panicked. “You, how dare you dodge?” Charlotte felt embarrassed as she found herself in an awkward position. She looked up, only to see Ethan standing there, unfazed, and he wasn't even looking in her direction. She nearly exploded. Anger coursed through her veins, and she yelled out. “Guards! Guards! Help me. This man attacked me just now and stole a ring from me!”Latest Chapter
The truth they can't deny
“Is that enough proof for both of you, or do you know any other person that Ava would speak to like this?” Ethan asked and none of the men standing in front of him could provide an answer. “Cat suddenly got both of your tongues or you just lost your ability to speak all of a sudden?” Ethan asked again, after a long stretch of silence. Mike and Ross were still trying to come to realization with what they just heard, there is no doubt about it, everything from the sound of her voice to the things she said were convincing enough, because according to Gideon, their leader, it was Miss. Ava that called and informed him about Ethan’s involvement not the HR, which was quite weird or rather unusual. But the group had all brushed it off as Miss. Ava tried to pass information to Gideon himself, given how valuable he had become to the company instead of passing information through intermediaries or middlemen in the organization. “No one comes to mind,” Ross answered Ethan’s earlier question,
proof of power
“Get off your high horse boy, what the fuck did you mean by ‘your goods’? Do you know what it means if one of these goods isn’t properly packaged when we deliver it?” Ross questioned angrily, trying to find a way to arrange the crate into its proper way. But there was no way they will return it to the way it once was. “That’s a very huge contrast to the good boy slash personality that I was thinking you will have based on my first impression of you,” Ethan said, facing Ross with the same chilling cold look. Ross turned to face him, deep lines of fury had been etched on his forehead, his eyes were blazing with fury, all common sense or reasoning had been thrown out of the window, he couldn’t see what was right in front of him, what exactly it was that had rendered his partner-in-crime silent. “What the hell are you spewing?” Ross questioned, rising to his feet. The fact that Ethan or rather Jox like he knew Ethan to be was not admitting that he had done something wrong and apologiz
The rookie who saw too much
Ethan’s instincts were screaming something else entirely. It destroyed the confusion that had taken root in his mind. ‘Gay? That’s the best excuse that they can come up with?’ Ethan pushed the chair he was seated on backwards. “Give me a minute, I will be back, I have something to pick up, I think I forgot it in the vehicle.” Before he could rise to his feet, Gideon reached forward and grabbed his hand, “Hold on, rookie. Miss. Ava said, " I should show you the ropes. This lunch break is my only opportunity to teach you about the rules. Whatever it is that you want, Sam can pick it up for you.” Ethan’s mask had been taken off to eat, so Gideon could see the slow change of Ethan’s facial expression. “I don’t believe that, you had other times to tell me about these rules while on the drive down here, and I am pretty sure that you can tell me when we resume the drive,” Ethan replied, trying to pull his hand away from Gideon’s grip, but the latter tightened it. “I didn’t have time to
The break before the storm
The security guys set upon the road, all of them with their masks on their faces. Sam and Doe were the ones driving the truck, while the remaining people were in another car behind, a black Cadillac escort vehicle. Ethan was in the back passenger seat with The Big Guy and Ross, while Mike was driving the car with Gideon occupying the front passenger seat. Nothing eventful happened throughout the first 30 minutes of the drive, the only thing that happened, which didn't really mean much, was that the escort vehicle drove forward. It wasn't like he was expecting anything that really matters to happen, though. Until Gideon finally spoke. All through the interactions and laughter that had been going on among the other men in the vehicle, he didn't interfere with them or join them. “Pull over.”Ethan kept his cool and remained as he should have been, but deep down he couldn't help but wonder why Gideon had asked Mike to pull over. The latter did so without hesitation. He pulled over
The big guy
“I am Jax Addams. I am among the security staff at the headquarters. Sincerely, I only received a call from Miss. Ava last night that I am to join the escort vehicles from now on and should no longer be joining the security at headquarters again till further notice,” Ethann said to Gideon, placing both of his hands behind his back. “This is the first time that headquarters would be moving security from there to other places,” Gideon said, tilting his head slightly to the side as he reached into his back pocket to pull out a pack of cigarettes. He tapped on the bottom of the pack a couple of times until one popped up through a hole at the top of the pack. He pulled it out completely and placed it between his lips, then he turned the pack to Ethan. Ethan shook his head to reject the offer, “I think you are wrong, though, because I have had a couple of people I call brothers moved from there for no reason to other units or branches.” “Damn, I had no idea that such things do happen,”
The new recruit
Ethan stood in front of the cars in his garage, quite curious about which to ride, he finally settled on his car with the old paint and beat-up-looking body. With a nod, he walked back into the building and picked up the key, then returned to the garage, where he got into the car. The goal was not to draw any attention to himself, even if he were to draw any attention to himself, it doesn’t have to be loud or anything apart from the fact that he is a newbie. He looked at the rearview mirror and pulled down the mask on his face. He was completely dressed in the kit that Ava had provided to him this morning. He had expected her to send someone with it, instead, she brought it herself. It felt like she wanted to discuss something, but for some reason she couldn’t let it out. Ethan was curious as he ignited the engine of the car, then drove onto the asphalt. Since when was the mighty, courageous, and extremely bold Ava shy to mention something? He shook the thought from his head. Th
