The whistle shrieked, slicing through the artificial air of the indoor arena as Don surged forward once again, his erratic grey aura crackling like static electricity over the turf.

Jack planted his left foot to cut off the lane, but the moment he shifted his weight to pivot, a blinding spike of white-hot agony tore through his upper thigh. The muscle fiber didn't just strain; it snapped with a muffled, sickening pop that vibrated up his spine. His knee buckled instantly, dumping him hard onto the synthetic grass as the world tilted sideways.

"Get up, analyst! We're not playing schoolyard tag!" Don yelled, cutting his run short and sneering down at the turf.

Forty bolted from the defensive line, his face draining of color as he dropped to his knees beside the fallen midfielder. "Hey! Cut it out, Don. Look at him—he's not faking it."

"He's just soft," Don scoffed, spitting onto the white chalk line before turning his back to rejoin the squad huddle.

The coaching staff rushed across the pitch, boots thudding heavily against the rubber pellets. An assistant dropped beside Jack, pressing a firm hand against the twitching, convulsing muscle of his right leg. The tissue beneath the skin had already begun to swell, bruising into a deep, angry crimson that marred the skin.

"Don't move him," the assistant ordered, looking up sharply toward the technical bench. "Get the medical cart out here now. We've got a severe grade-three tear in the quadriceps."

Jack stared up at the pristine white ceiling panels, his breath coming in shallow, ragged gasps. The system interface flared violently across his peripheral vision, washing the clinical white lights in a haze of urgent, blinking red.

[CRITICAL SYSTEM ALERTER: BIOLOGICAL FAILURE]

- Injury sustained: Severe Myofascial Tear (Quadriceps).

- System Feedback Loop Error: Excessive usage of 'Predator's Field' without organic conditioning has resulted in cellular breakdown.

- Mandatory Rehabilitation Protocol Initiated: 6 Weeks Forced Immobility / Physical Therapy.

"Just breathe, kid," the head coach muttered, stepping into Jack's line of sight as the medical team slid a rigid stretcher alongside him. "You pushed past the threshold. I told the scouts you had the vision, but your biological shell couldn't write the check your brain was cashing."

"I... I can walk on it," Jack gritted out through clenched teeth, his fingers digging into the artificial turf until his knuckles turned white.

"You couldn't walk to the water fountain if your life depended on it," the coach replied grimly, signaling the medics to lift. "Load him up. Take him straight to the physical therapy wing."

The sterile smell of antiseptic and ozone replaced the scent of rubber and sweat as the weeks bled together in a grueling blur of rehabilitation.

Inside the Zenith medical annex, the automated resistance machines hissed rhythmically against the tension bands. Jack sat on the edge of the rehabilitation table, his right thigh wrapped in thick, compression tape while a cold-compression sleeve hummed quietly around the healing tissue.

"You're pushing the range of motion too fast, Vance," the physical therapist said, tapping her clipboard against her knee as she watched him flex the leg. "The muscle fibers are knitting back together, but if you tear this scar tissue before the month is up, you're looking at permanent loss of explosive acceleration."

"I don't have a month to waste sitting on a bench," Jack said, his voice flat and devoid of any warmth as he adjusted the strap on his brace. "The under-nineteen fixtures start soon, and Don't squad is locking down the starting midfield."

"Your body isn't your enemy, Vance—your impatience is," the therapist sighed, shaking her head. "The system gave you a tool you didn't have the biological framework to handle. Until you learn how to bridge the gap between supernatural processing and organic limits, you're just a glass cannon."

Jack didn't answer. He turned his gaze toward the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the secondary training pitches outside. Down below, the reserve squads were running sprints, their forms blurring with bursts of kinetic mana that left distorted ripples in the afternoon air.

He closed his eyes, calling up the system interface from the dark recesses of his mind. The layout was still there, but the stats flickered with a subdued, chastened glow.

The injury had stripped away his arrogance, forcing him to confront the bitter truth of his new existence. Mental geometry and tactical foresight were useless if the physical vessel carrying them shattered under the weight of a single collision. Power wasn't just about unlocking abilities; it was about building the endurance to survive them.

The heavy oak door of the rehabilitation room clicked open, and Ironwood stepped inside, carrying a clipboard bearing the updated squad registry.

"Cleared by the medical team?" Ironwood asked, his eyes scanning the digital readout on the wall monitor.

Jack stood up slowly, putting his full weight onto the right leg for the first time without the crutches. A dull, protesting ache radiated from the thigh, but the muscle held firm, braced by weeks of agonizing physical therapy.

"Cleared," Jack said, rolling his shoulders and locking his gaze onto the coach. "Put me back on the pitch."

The crackle of the transmission died down, leaving a high-pitched whine that resonated directly against Jack’s temporal lobe. He stumbled, his shoulder catching the rough, sweat-stained concrete of the tunnel wall as the world underwent a sickening transformation.Suddenly, his depth perception shattered. The darkness of the subterranean corridor vanished, replaced by a crystalline, bird’s-eye projection of the entire stadium complex. He was no longer just looking through his eyes; he was hovering three hundred feet above the pitch, watching the frantic scramble of his own body as if he were a ghost haunting a machine."System, pull back," Jack gasped, clawing at his temple. "Disengage the feed.""Negative," the system replied, its voice distorted by a digital hiss. "The black-box kernel has bridged with the local facility’s security network. The integration is absolute."Jack stared at his own tiny, fleeing figure on the overhead display. He saw the Ironclads—the group he had just es

  • Chapter 14: Exile to the Fringe

The van’s sliding door groaned against its rusted track, a sound like grinding teeth that underscored the rhythmic thrum of the black-box kernel behind Jack’s eyes. He didn't wait for an invitation; he stepped into the interior, the air inside thick with the smell of ozone, stale sweat, and the sharp, metallic tang of unshielded mana-converters. The man with the silver teeth slammed the door shut, and the vehicle lurched forward, tires squealing as it peeled away from the academy’s perimeter."So, you’re the one," the man said, leaning back into a worn bucket seat. He gestured toward a cluster of monitors mounted to the bulkhead. "The kid who tried to overclock his system in the middle of a scouting drill. You’ve got spirit, I’ll give you that. Most kids just fry their frontal lobes and spend the rest of their lives drooling into a tray."Jack ignored him, his focus pinned to the display of floating data streams flickering across his vision. The van was moving at a high speed, yet he

  • Chapter 13: The Black Market Upgrade

The smell of scorched rubber still clung to the alley walls, but Jack didn’t pause to breathe. His heart hammered against his ribs—a frantic, uneven rhythm that struggled to keep pace with the hyper-accelerated data streams flowing through his vision. Every flicker of the streetlights, every shadow cast by the jagged brickwork, was rendered into a distinct, measurable trajectory. He didn't need to look back to know Zenith-01 was no longer tailing him. The silence of the alleyway was too absolute, too curated. He reached the end of the narrow corridor and skidded into a wider street, his legs moving with a terrifying, rhythmic precision that felt entirely alien to his own muscles."System status," Jack gasped, his voice straining against the sudden, sharp pressure building behind his eyes."Black-box kernel at 88% stability," the metallic voice replied, resonating directly against his inner ear. "Sensory intake: Overclocked. Warning: Biological integrity at 74%."Jack ignored the warni

  • Chapter 12: Broken Code

The vibration against Jack’s ribs turned from a rhythmic pulse into a discordant grind, syncing with his heartbeat as he sprinted past the empty laundry crates. He reached the heavy, reinforced door leading to the maintenance stairwell, his hand hovering over the keypad. The screen was a blackened slab, dead and unresponsive, but the data-key in his palm burned with a sudden, localized heat. He pressed the device against the sensor. With a mechanical click that sounded deafening in the silence, the lock disengaged. He lunged inside, the door slamming shut behind him. The air in the stairwell smelled of ozone and damp concrete, a stark contrast to the sterile, climate-controlled luxury of the locker room. As he began his descent, the red light on his key shifted to a frantic, pulsing violet."System anomaly detected," a voice echoed—not from his head, but from the key itself. It was metallic, devoid of warmth, and utterly alien. "Local grid partition active. You are drifting, Host-01."

  • Chapter 11: The Calculated Defeat

The ball did not whistle through the air with the usual chaotic flair of a high-mana strike. Instead, it hummed, a low-frequency vibration that seemed to slice through the very resistance of the atmosphere. Zenith-01’s boot connected with a sickening, clinical precision, pushing the sphere into a trajectory so shallow it bypassed the defensive wall entirely, curling inches above the grass before snapping into the top corner of the net.Jack lunged, his fingers stretching until the tendons screamed, but the ball was already ripples in the back of the mesh. The sound of the impact was not the satisfying thud of leather meeting tension; it was a metallic chime that resonated through the stadium, a signal of an ending. Before Jack could even plant his feet to recover, the blue interface hovering in his peripheral vision went haywire. A series of harsh, jagged white lines tore across his display, fracturing the world into jagged shards of light."System integrity failing," a flat, digitize

The electronic board flashed a blinding red digit, signaling the tactical shift as the opposing substitute crossed the white chalkline. The stadium murmured, a low rumble of curious spectators trying to identify the newcomer who had lingered in the shadows of the bench for the entire ninety minutes.Jack stood frozen near the edge of the eighteen-yard box, his eyes locked onto the approaching figure. The hidden quest notification still hovered at the edge of his vision, burning with a persistent golden hue. As the stranger jogged closer, shedding his warm-up top to reveal a clean, uncrested jersey, the ambient noise of the stadium seemed to mute entirely, replaced by a strange, high-pitched ringing in Jack's ears."Who the hell is that?" Don muttered, backing up a few steps to assume his defensive shape. "They're swapping out their holding midfielder this late? It's a defensive suicide.""It's not a substitution for defense," Jack replied quietly, his voice dropping an octave as a col
