The Maverick Heir

CHAPTER FIVE

“Welcome to the Maverick family’s mansion” Isaac announced as Edwin and Max stepped out of the car to greet him.

They had arrived late into the night. Edwin was blown away by the massive structure of the mansion. To him it was a building that he was only opportune to see in the movies.

“Come inside.” Isaac said with a smile seeing the look of surprise on the face of both men.

He had instructed his guards to go and fetch them with his luxurious limousine and the only car owned by anyone in the country.

When they walked into the living room, Max tapped Edwin’s shoulder and he turned around to look at him. “Are you sure this isn’t a dream?” 

Edwin smiled. He had the same thought too when he learnt about his heritage of his father but right now he has learned to deal with it.

He was a rich man now and that is all that mattered. “Dinner will be served in a moment. The rest of the Mavericks are in their room and they will be coming soon to meet up with you.” Isaac announced as they settled down on the couch.

Once he was gone, Edwin looked around the room. The paintings on the wall depicted the heritage of the family and he was impressed that they had to keep such rich history.

They heard footsteps and Edwin looked up to see a middle aged man dressed in a simple outfit coming down to meet them.

He had similar look to Isaac and a smile across his face as well. “You must be Edwin.” He said, extending his arm for a handshake.

Edwin got up to his feet and shakes the man’s hand firmly and Max did the same thing as well. “My name is Osborn and I am the last son of Lord Maverick.” He said.

“Nice to see you sir Osborn.” Edwin replied the man, who proceeds to go and sit down on the couch.

Another footsteps is heard and Edwin looked up to see a young beautiful maiden approaching them. 

She was so beautiful that Edwin was star struck. She walked with elegance and had this aura as she came to meet them. “Hello everyone.” She said with a bright smile.

“This is Isabella, she is the only family friend that we have.” Osborn introduced.

Isabella walked over to Max and shakes his hand  and proceed to Edwin who also extends his arm but instead got a warm hug.

Edwin tried not to blush but he could not stop himself.  Not even Valerie had made him felt this way before. 

“I have heard a whole lot about you and I am proud that you are with us right now.” Isabella said with excitement on her face.

Maybe it was the lack of any woman in his life but for the first time, Edwin felt excited knowing that someone looked at him with actual admiration.

“Dinner is ready everyone.” Isaac announced from the stairs and they all rose to their feet.

Edwin and Max trailed behind Osborn and Isabella to the dinning table. When they arrived at the table, Edwin was surprised that there was a whole lot of other family members.

He made sure to greet them all before taking his sit next to Max. The meal that was served was Chicken rice and stew. The family all ate after saying grace. “So tell us Edwin, where did you work before coming here.” One of the younger men asked.

“Liam, hold your tongue.” Isaac warned.

Edwin noticed that ever since he stepped into the dinning table, Liam has been acting very salty around him. 

Halfway through the meal, Edwin needed a cup of water and asked the little kid next to him, who directed him to the kitchen. “Don’t worry, I will get it for you.” Osborn replied.

“No, I am fine.” Edwin answered with a smile on his face and walked off from his table.

He managed to find the kitchen right on time and placed his cup on the tap, waiting for the water to fill up. “I am sorry about Liam.” 

Edwin is startled by Isabella, who walked into the kitchen with a tray in her hands. She carefully placed the tray on the table and turned to look at Edwin, still keeping the smile on her face. “It is normal for siblings to act that way.” He replied with a shrug of his shoulder.

“Tell me something Edwin, do you have a girlfriend or are you married?” 

Edwin was surprised by her boldness.  “I…” He wanted to reply but thought about it for a moment.

Valerie broke his heart into a thousand pieces despite being a sweet woman and now another one was standing next to him. “I used to be married.” He replied.

“Used to?”

“Yes, she cheated on me and that is how our marriage ended.” He replied with a sad look on his face.

Isabella walked close to him and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. “I am really sorry that you have to go through that. Some women are simply heartless.”

“Or maybe you are saying all of this because you want to have him in your bed.” 

We both turned around and Liam was standing by the door with his arms folded together and a mischievous smile on his face. “Watch your mouth Liam.” Isabella warned with a stern look at him.

“Le me quickly let you know that Isabella has been in three relationships and it ended up being faulty in the end.” Liam addressed Edwin.

“Liam!” She yelled and stomped her feet on the floor.

Edwin could tell that Liam wasn’t lying about what he had said, judging from the reaction she had given. “Nothing much, just trying to warn him to stay away from you.” He said.

“It is fine. I don’t care about knowing people’s life. I only came to meet my family.” Edwin replied.

Liam face turned into a frown and in the end he walked out of the room.
