He couldn't believe what he was hearing. So she was the one who had saved him five years ago.
He could still remember that incident and it was as clear as day.
As usual, the family of four set out to eat at a restaurant. But then he also happened to be working at the same restaurant.
Somehow, the fire started and people rushed out, but unfortunately, some people were trapped within, including his parents and siblings.
Without hesitation, he rushed in to save them all, making one trip at a time, rushing forth and back.
That day, he had saved Sarah too. But then he couldn't be too bothered to look at her face.
After the last round, he rushed back in to search and see if there was anyone who was left in the fire.
Upon seeing no one, he rushed out, but in the end, he was trapped. It was Sarah who had rushed back in to help him.
And while they were at it, she fell on the floor directly into the fire; luckily, it was only half of her face.
By the time they came out, she had passed out due to the pain. He also didn't last long and fainted from inhaling the smoke.
Days later, somehow, Kelvin was hailed as the hero who had rushed into the fire to save everyone.
Before he could make any claims or complaints, he was framed for embezzlement. His father was furious and wanted to directly send him to jail, but in the end, Kelvin pleaded on his behalf and he was banished to the wasteland instead.
Since then, he had been trying to look for the lady who had saved him, but there was no news.
Who would have expected her to be Sarah, eldest daughter of the Edwin family?
"What's wrong? Why are your eyes red?" Sarah's confused voice sounded, pulling Jeremy back to his senses.
"Nothing, I just got something in my eye," Jeremy coughed and turned away, walking towards the door.
"I'll begin your treatment now," he said, picking up his bag which was now by the door.
Opening the bag, he pulled out a set of acupuncture needles and a small transparent bottle filled with an ointment.
Walking back to Sarah, he couldn't help but take a glance at her once more.
"Aren't you resentful?" He couldn't help but blurt out after a while, his back turned while he prepared what to do.
"Resentful?" Sarah chuckled slowly, shaking her head.
"Why should I be?"
"After the incident, the person you saved didn't even come looking for you?" Jeremy answered, the guilt piling up in his chest.
"When he chose to save me, he didn't seem to want me to thank him or anything, and neither did I when I rushed in to save him," Sarah countered, her voice slow.
"So I've never been regretful," she concluded, letting the tear streak down her face properly.
Jeremy sighed and turned around; though a bit confused, at the moment, he didn't have the heart to tell her he was the one.
Besides, would she even believe him? All these ran through his mind as he forced himself to calm down.
If Jeremy's enemies knew that the Mercenary King was here, hesitating to talk to a lady, their jaws would drop wide open.
"Alright, lay down; I'll be starting the treatment," Jeremy broke the silence, forcing everything to the back of his mind.
He was going to let this develop naturally and if in the future she found out, then that would be it.
With that, he took the needles and started to perform acupuncture on her.
Sarah, on the other hand, could feel her face burning. That part of her body had already lost all feeling and even if someone were to punch her right there before, she wouldn't feel anything.
But now, it was as though a stream of heat suddenly found its way through the needles and the most interesting part was that it felt good.
After a while, Jeremy removed the needles, placed them back on the table and took the ointment.
"You should apply this all over your face," he said, handing over the bottle.
"After you do that, leave it until tomorrow and by then you should be fine." He added, dropping the ointment back on the table.
"I'll be heading out now," Jeremy sighed, turning towards the door.
"Don't worry, you can sleep here; there's enough space on the bed anyway," Sarah's voice came, stopping Jeremy just as he was about to open the door.
Jeremy froze, then turned around slowly. At the moment, Sarah was sitting up, but her head was down as she bit her lower lip, avoiding Jeremy's gaze.
It had taken all of her willpower to say that.
"You don't have to worry; I'll just sleep on the floor," Jeremy answered after a long moment of silence, walking to the other side of the room.
Hearing this, Sarah quickly nodded, grabbed the ointment on the table and rushed into the bathroom.
Jeremy sighed and shook his head, not knowing what to say. This wife of his...
Darkness quickly stole the sun like it had always done and soon, dawn arrived with the sun preparing to rise again.
"Arghhhh!"
A terrified scream resounded throughout the room, jolting Jeremy, who was laying on a small bed on the floor, awake.
His aura rose and killing intent surged; his eyes dashed around, seemingly searching for the danger.
The next second, a figure rushed out from the bathroom, running towards the dressing table to check the mirror, as if the mirror in the bathroom could have lied.
Jeremy, on the other hand, froze the moment he laid eyes on the figure.
Wait, what the heck was happening?
Was he seeing well? Could it be that he was hallucinating?
What the heck was happening?
Without hesitation, he quickly rubbed his eyes once again to have another look, an
d indeed, he wasn't wrong. He wasn't hallucinating.

Jeremy raised his brows, looking at Jasper."Yes, sir; don't you know, it was his granddaughter the government hired us to save," Jasper answered, nodding."But since you didn't come with us, he didn't see you, so he didn't know who you were," Jeremy carried on."Also, he's the head of the Ravencroft family, Jacob Ravencroft.""Oh," Jeremy nodded and then turned away, letting Jasper ask the old man what he wanted to.Jacob, on the other hand, felt his heart was about to burst out of his chest.Th
