Khloe turned out to be the lady who had been with him earlier. She entered the ward a few minutes after Eva and Keegan left.
She sat and fixed her gaze on Travis as if he were some interesting specimen. "So, now you know everything, huh?" She asked. "Yeah, so?" he said. She snorted. "Well, welcome to the family, brother. Don't expect me to respect you just because you are older than." Travis frowned. "You are their daughter? Didn't Eva say she had a womb problem?" "I was adopted." "Oh." He pursed his lips. "The Novaks adopt?" "Not really. Long story." Travis rolled his eyes. "Everyone I've met in this family seems to have some story." "Like I said before, welcome to the family. Being a powerful family comes with its benefits and drawbacks." Travis huffed. "I'd rather be anywhere but in the god-damned family." She raised a brow. "Sharp tongue. Did the Novaks killed your girlfriend or what?" Travis didn't reply. "Well, suck it up. You are the first child of the head of the family. You'll always be in danger without protection." "Yeah, I don't need another lecture about how I'm in danger for having the Novak blood running through my veins." She chuckled. "You haven't even been here for a full day and you are this bitter already? Oh, sweet brother. Wait until you meet the rest of the family." Travis arched a brow. "What about them?" "You'll see." Before Travis could ask what she meant, she said. "Get up. I'll show you your room." "I'd like to see my father's corpse." "Huh? Dad isn't… oh, you meant..." Khloe cleared her throat. "I think you should wash up and eat first." "I'm good." He stood up. She stared at him, contemplating before shrugging. "Alright, this way." She led him through a hallway leading to a long staircase. Travis stared wide-eyed at the beautifully decorated interior of the house. The hallway walls displayed exquisite artwork between the doors. The floor gleamed under his foot. For someone who lived in a poor place all his life, this was definitely a change. Khloe chuckled at his reaction. "Wait till you see the Novaks' manor." "Wait, this isn't their house?" "Goodness, no. This mansion belongs to dad. The main house is on Nova Island. If you react like this here, you'll definitely swoon when you see the manor." Travis gulped. Something stirred inside him. Was this how it felt to be rich? Having beautiful things and all? He had been missing out on all of this. They went through a series of stairs and hallways until they stopped at a door. "Well... it's in there,” Khloe said. "When you are done, you'll find someone here to take you to your room." Travis nodded, bracing himself for what he would see in there. "Travis," Khloe said as he was about to open the door, "I understand how you feel, but just take it easy. It'll be okay." She turned and left. Travis thought about her words for a moment before entering. The room was plain and small. There was only one window, but it was wide enough to give good natural light in the room. In the center of the room stood a white case, resembling a coffin. A lump formed in his throat as he neared the coffin. The lid was transparent. Adam laid inside. His clothes had been changed to a white robe. His face looked peaceful, as if he were just asleep. Travis knew better. He fell on his knees and placed his hand on the lid. Guilt built up inside him. Adam died because of him, all because of a stupid heritage. This was his fault. He thought of all the times they spent together: their laughter, the moments he trained him on how to fight, all the times he punished him for doing something bad. All of them. Travis couldn't accept that he was gone like that. And he was just supposed to accept Keegan as his father? There was only one person who deserved the title 'father' in his life, and it was this man who took care of him all the years of his life. Travis rested his head on the lid. His eyes watered. He hadn't even given him the good life he promised him. Why did life have to be so cruel? "I'm sorry, father. Rest in peace." He muttered, tears running down his cheeks. Travis didn't know when or how long he slept. Someone tapped his shoulder, jerking him out of his sleep. "Hmm?" he said incorrigibly, squinting his eyes at the person. "Come, let's go to your room." It was Eva's voice. He rubbed his eyes and looked again. His sight became clear. Eva stood before him, still dressed in the attire she wore when she visited him in the ward. Eva said. "You've been here for a while. I got worried." "I'm fine," Travis replied, his voice hoarse. Eva stared at him with concern. Travis wondered if all that he said back at the ward still hurt her. "Come. I'll take you to your room." Travis glanced at Adam's body. It was still painful to think about it. He faced Eva and nodded for her to lead the way. He left the room and followed her through the hallway. "Um, sorry about Adam," Eva said as they walked down the stairs. "Losing a good father... I know how that feels. I lost mine too. I just want you to know that you are not alone. We might not really be on good terms right now, but I'll always be here for you." "Thank you," Travis replied. He still hadn't completely registered the reality of Keegan and Eva being his parents, but at least Eva was reasonable enough to sympathize with him. Eva stopped at a door. "Here we are." She opened it. Travis stared at the room, unable to believe it belonged to him. The first thing that surprised him was the width and the king-sized bed. Everything he needed for a bedroom furnished the room, all made of rich and good quality materials. "You'll find anything you need in here, or you can just tell us if you need anything else." Travis nodded. "Thank you." "I'll ask the maids to bring some food for you. You haven't eaten in a while." Travis nodded. That being said, she left him. Travis entered his room and examined it. He lay on his bed. His brows furrowed at its softness. His bed back at his home was as hard as a rock. In contrast with his old life, this one was so much better. He'd have anything he wanted in life. But that went against everything he believed and thought. Like almost everybody in the city, he hated the Novak family. Would enjoying this life provided by them not make him a hypocrite? But it was so good to live like this, not having to worry about tomorrow. That aside, what of his new heritage? How would that affect his life? Enemies would be after him now, apparently. What about the rest of the Novak family? How did they feel about his returning? Most importantly, how would the rest of his life feel like without Adam? He exhaled deeply, thoughts flowing like a river in his head.Latest Chapter

The three sons of Cassius stood in front of them, their eyes spitting venom at them.“Travis didn't break your nose hard enough if you still have some audacity,” Khloe said.Ambrose’s jaw ticked. “Who do you both think you are? You're so cocky just because your father is the head, huh?”“Precisely,” Khloe smirked.Dallas chuckled. “It won't last. Ambrose will be the heir soon, and when he becomes head, you'll all bite back your words.”Travis raised his brow.“And who said he'll be the heir?” Khloe asked. “Has Grandma confirmed it or is it just your delusion?”“Who else would it be? Travis, who just got into the family and knows nothing whatsoever, or you, a lucky sheep brought into the family?” Ambrose said.“You'll have more than a broken nose if you dare insult any of us again.” Travis stepped forward.Riley shrank behind Khloe.“You were just lucky in that fight. I'll kick your ass anytime and anywhere. So, you better watch it.” Ambrose threatened.“Prove it then.” Travis said.Am

“How dare you show yourself here?” He growled at Travis.“I could ask the same,” Travis countered.“You two know each other?” Cassius frowned.“He's the dimwit who did this to me.” He yelled, pointing at his nose.“Oh, so he's the jerk you were talking about?” Khloe said, her lips curling up in a smile.“Bitch, no one asked for your opinion.”“A black eye would have gone well with the nose though.”“You–”“Enough,” the woman beside him interrupted. “Keegan, control your son. He just got here, and he already broke my son's nose.”Wait, son? Travis looked closely at the guy and noticed the resemblance to the woman. She was his mother, then Cassius had to be his father.Eva stepped forward. “I think you should be the one doing the controlling here. Your son started the fight.”“I did nothing. He just beat me up in the bathroom,” he yelled.Khloe raised her brow. “Ambrose, we know you. Do you really think anyone would believe that?”“Still, he didn't have to break my son's nose,” his moth

Five people sat around a rectangular table in one of the studies at the Novaks' Manor. There were two men and three women.Keegan sat, dressed in a white T-shirt. Cassius sat opposite. Beside him was his sister, Sage, while their youngest sister, Zyra, sat beside Cassius. At the head of the table, an old woman sat on the largest seat, addressing them. She looked younger than fifty years old. Her skin was not too wrinkled thanks to her early skincare routine during her youth days. Her hair showed some strands of gray hair, though. She was Jocelyn, the Novak's Matriarch.“The Baxters have started pushing. We need to meet up with the competition,” said Jocelyn, peering into the laptop in front of her. “Make sure the project is ready this week, Keegan.”“I understand. It'll be ready as soon as possible. This will definitely bypass them.” He replied.“Make sure it does.”Cassius cleared his throat, drawing their attention to him.“Any problem?” asked Jocelyn.Cassius said. “So, the Baxters

Driving into the manor was like entering a castle. The manor itself was long and massive, composed of white limestone and floor-to-ceiling glass panels. Large balconies with frameless glass railings extended from upper floors. As they neared the gate, which seemed to be made of silver, the gate opened automatically. A series of tests was run on the car, and after that, they drove on.Travis caught his breath. The compound stretched wide. A garden, surrounded by hedges, covered one side, hosting flowers of various species that Travis had never seen in his life. On either side of the driveway stood Cupid-shaped fountains. The Novaks truly lived up to their legacy. The whole thing was magnificent. The driveway divided into different branches. Keegan took the one leading to the underground garage. Except for some minor differences in width and decor, it looked exactly like the garage at Keegan's mansion.Keegan frowned at a nearby red Porsche after they had alighted. “Great, Cassius is

Travis gripped the armrest of his seat as the plane accelerated down the runway, pushing him deeper into his seat. The jet slowly ascended. Travis felt weightless for a moment. His stomach rumbled a bit. Then, the jet leveled, and he felt normal again. “Does your stomach feel weird? It's usually normal if it's your first time,” said Eva. “I'm fine now,” replied Travis, rubbing his abdomen. He looked out through the window. The city looked so tiny from up here. Clouds and streaks of the orange setting sun mingled, creating a beautiful view in the sky. It was like flying in a fantasy world. He would never forget this magical experience. Those who traveled by air frequently were lucky to experience this all the time. “We should be in the city in seven hours. The weather looks good,” said Keegan. The workers served them their preferred refreshments, foods, and drinks. Travis dug into his cheeseburger. “Remind me. Why did your mother call this meeting again?” asked Eva, who was still

“I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Take down the video and help me,” she said, her voice croaking as if she were crying. Travis asked. “Is this some kind of trick? What are you talking about?” “My shop is my only business, please… it's my only source. Please call them off… I'm sorry.” “What are you talking about?” “Take down the video.” “Goodbye.” Travis cut the call. What was that about? Barely a minute later, the phone rang again. This time, it was Nate calling. He answered. “Yo, how did you do it?” asked Nate enthusiastically. “You too? What are you talking about?” “You don't know? Someone posted a video of what happened the day madam slapped you.” Travis frowned. “Seriously?” “Yes. Everyone is giving the eatery negative reviews because she disrespects her employees. No one wants to go there now.” “Hmph, serves her right. She had it coming,” scoffed Travis. “That's not even the best part. The person also found out she was also into drug trafficking and used the eatery as
