“Get out of my chair,” Caleb said without hesitation.

Mike paused in a bit of disbelief. “Huh?”

Did Caleb, an easy pushover, dare refuse him?

He looked at Sherry, smiling furiously.

Sherry also looked at Caleb as if he made a big mistake, but he didn’t even blink.

“Are you going to get up, or do y0u want me to talk to Madam CEO?” Caleb asked.

“Pfft,” Mike almost burst into a smile. “You think our CEO would waste her precious time on you? Did she even talk to you once in the time she’s been here?” He got up at once. “But I’ll humor you and leave this spot for now. However, you will come begging to me soon and do everything I tell you to do.”

Saying that he walked away with hands in pockets.

“Who’s going to move these items?” Caleb said coldly.

Mike forced out a smile. “This guy…” The vein in his neck throbbed. He glanced at a couple of coworkers.

They quickly moved the items back to his desk and brought Caleb’s belongings back to his desk.

Caleb sat down and just did his work.

Sherry kept glancing at him every now and then.

He could feel it, but he didn’t even glance at her.

“You are going to regret picking a fight with him,” Sherry said.

Caleb’s forefinger stopped clicking the mouse. He slightly shifted his head and looked at her. She dressed up especially well today, but she did not appear as pretty in his eyes anymore.

“Why do you care?” Caleb asked.

Her eyes widened a little. “A-Are you really going to behave like this because I rejected your confession?”

Caleb inhaled a bit deeply and said, “Yeah.”

“You’re being childish.”

“I was. But not anymore.”

“Hmph,” she snorted and stopped talking after that.

Moments later, the HR manager directly approached Caleb’s desk with a file and threw it in his face.

“Your drafts are trash. They did not satisfy the clients,” he roared. “If you can’t create good designs, why don’t you go out into the field and lift cement bags? Why are you sitting in an AC room and wasting the company’s money?”

Caleb frowned as embarrassment crept up onto his face.

Mike was snickering from his desk.

So, he was the one who was behind this.

Caleb did not expect Mike to even make the HR manager behave like this. He felt like he underestimated Mike’s influence.

“Just look at you. You are overweight. Your face has no glow, and so do your designs,” the HR manager continued to accuse him, his spit flying and falling all over. Even Sherry who was in the next cubicle was moving away. “Your creativity is coming from your belly, not from your brain. That’s why your designs are being rejected! If this happens again, then prepare to face consequences.”

Caleb had enough.

“I did not receive any negative feedback from the customers,” Caleb angrily retorted. “Some clients even specifically praised my designs on social media. So what nonsense are you spouting, sir?”

“Hmph!” The manager arrogantly responded, saying, “You are daydreaming if you think social media likes have an impact on the company’s growth. Whatever I say is the rule. If I tell you to crawl, you must crawl,” he particularly glanced in Mike’s direction as though he wanted to convey to Caleb what the real issue was, “and if I tell you to leave, then you must leave.”

At that moment, a group of people walked into the company, with the company chairman, Edward Grand, cautiously following behind them.

The HR manager quietened like a puppy before them.

Sherry and Caleb and others also just focused on their work, or at least tried to.

After the chairman and the group went into the guest room, whispers sprang to life in the office.

Mike came over to Sherry’s desk.

“Do you know who they are?” she asked him.

“Of course,” Mike boasted a little bit. “They are the investment team from Phantom Dream Investments. If their negotiations are successful, our company will receive a $1 million investment and expand its core team. That means… you could get into the core team.”

Sherry felt butterflies in her stomach.

“Of course,” Mike glanced at Caleb. “Getting into the core team will remain a dream for some losers.”

Sherry tried her best to not chuckle.

In the five years Caleb was here, he was not able to get promoted to the core team. It wasn’t because of his lack of talent but due to politics and also due to a past mistake.

Sherry also did not receive a promotion because she refused to suck up to the HR manager because he was bald and ugly. This was one of the reasons Caleb liked her because she didn’t sell her body like some other girls did.

Now, thanks to Mike, Sherry could finally get into the core team she had always dreamed of.

Her salary would also climb from being 50K to 80K or even more.

Sherry innocently asked Mike, “At best, only one member will be added into the core team. Do you think I’ll have a chance?”

“I will give you my spot, Sherry,” Mike replied, startling her.

“Huh? Then what about you?” she couldn’t help but ask.

Mike smugly smirked, “My uncle is the one who brought the Phantom Dream Investment company to us. If this deal goes through, I’ll become the head of the interior design department. I’ll be above the core team and every other team in the company.”

Everyone began flattering him immediately, and Sherry was at the front.

The only person who still remained at his seat was Caleb.

And he did not look happy at all.

How could someone like Mike who had little to no work experience become the head of the department?

If that were to happen, Caleb’s life in this company would become living hell.

Caleb returned to his apartment. The kids were both sleeping soundly in the back.Velma tried waking them up, but they weren’t responding.“Don’t wake them,” Caleb said. “I’ll bring them to your flat.”She was surprised. “You’ll carry them?”“Yeah.”Velma’s expression slightly changed. (Is he trying to get into my flat using this excuse?)She stepped out of the car.Caleb picked up both the kids into his arms without any issues. He went ahead into the apartment. She quickly followed him. “I was expecting your car to give us some trouble, but it didn’t. I won’t say I’m not surprised.”“Well, we shouldn’t judge things by their appearances,” Caleb said.“Y-You’re right,” Velma smiled somewhat. They took the elevator to reach the first floor. She opened her flat door, and then he dropped the kids on the bed. The four other kids were not sleeping but running and playing around. As Caleb was leaving, “Thanks for everything, Caleb.”Caleb just nodded and was walking away.“Be careful,” she

Even though Ben was singing and his friends were dancing, Velma’s kids sensed the tension in the atmosphere and hid behind their mother.“Ben, there’s no need to go this far,” Velma quickly said. “Caleb, apologize to him.”Ben snickered as he did a wave dance with his legs while standing at the same spot. “He should get on his knees and start kissin’ my boots… before my crew writes his ending in tire marks and bruised suits.”“Caleb, get on your knees,” Velma insisted.“I already said my piece,” Caleb replied. “I will apologize if he apologizes to me first.”“Don’t bark big lines, bro,” Ben said. “You’re going to regret, though.”His two friends rushed in and crafted spinning kicks.Caleb took a couple of steps back and dodged them, though only barely. But a quick side kick followed and struck Caleb in the diaphragm, taking the breath out of him.He was pushed back a couple more steps. A frown creased his face. The food bags were on the ground now.“Get down, Caleb,” Velma said. “And

“Take your fucking hand off of me, trash,” Caleb said these words, and he wasn’t even prompted by the system this time.He did it all on his own.Ben saw something like primal rage flicker in Caleb’s eyes for a second, and he pulled his hand back before he knew it.Still, he was quick to recover. “What did you just say?”“There are children here,” Caleb added. “Or I would have used more appropriate words for you,” Caleb retorted.“Caleb!” Velma hissed at him. “Do you know who this man is? He’s a famous rapper. He makes five figures every year. He owns a big house and a luxury car.”“So what? I’m never going to date him,” Caleb replied.Silence fell for a moment.Velma didn’t think Caleb would have such a twisted sense of humor. For the first time, she had a positive impression on him. But, of course, she did not show it in front of Ben.“You should apologize to him,” Velma said.“I will,” Caleb said.“Hmph,” Ben snorted with pride.“But only if he apologizes to me first for calling me

In the time Caleb took to reach the restaurant, Velma received three calls from three different men.She told them she was at a restaurant and had all three of them send money to her.“These idiots only sent me thirty dollars each, even though I told them I came here with my kids,” Velma snorted. She received ninety dollars in total and still wasn’t happy about it in the slightest.“Mm?” She looked at Caleb. “What? Why are you looking at me? Are you jealous that I get paid by my boyfriends?”“We’ve arrived,” he replied.“Oh…”The kids got out first, but Velma didn’t. She was looking at Caleb. “You don’t have to sweat, Caleb. No one expects a Brokie like you to pay. I don’t, either. So, don’t worry. The bill is on me.”Caleb frowned a little. “No. I’ll pay,” he said reluctantly, not because he wanted to pay for her meals but because of the system’s condition. And then Caleb got out of the car.Velma slightly chuckled. “Men are so easy to manipulate. You just rub their eyes a little, an

“What’s the restaurant name?” Caleb asked.“Backfire,” Velma said.“That’s like five miles from here.”“Yeah. So?”“Nothing,” Caleb knew better than arguing with this woman.“Uncle,” the little girl looked at Caleb. “How much do you earn in a week?”“I don’t get paid weekly. I have a proper job. I get paid monthly,” Caleb said.“How much?”“Enough,” he replied.Caleb saw a woman ahead, asking the passing cars for lift. But nobody stopped for her. However, when she saw Caleb’s car, she didn’t even bother asking for a lift.It hurt Caleb’s pride a little.“Stop. That’s my friend,” Velma said.“Huh?” Caleb stopped the car. “We can’t let her in. Did you look at her size? The car would flip over if she sits in the back.”“C’mon, she’s probably the same weight as you.”“No. She’s at least fifty pounds heavier than me,” Caleb quickly retorted.“Let me just walk with her for a minute,” Velma said.Caleb reluctantly reversed the car and stopped by the obese lady standing on the road.Velma ste
