“Get out of my chair,” Caleb said without hesitation.
Mike paused in a bit of disbelief. “Huh?”
Did Caleb, an easy pushover, dare refuse him?
He looked at Sherry, smiling furiously.
Sherry also looked at Caleb as if he made a big mistake, but he didn’t even blink.
“Are you going to get up, or do y0u want me to talk to Madam CEO?” Caleb asked.
“Pfft,” Mike almost burst into a smile. “You think our CEO would waste her precious time on you? Did she even talk to you once in the time she’s been here?” He got up at once. “But I’ll humor you and leave this spot for now. However, you will come begging to me soon and do everything I tell you to do.”
Saying that he walked away with hands in pockets.
“Who’s going to move these items?” Caleb said coldly.
Mike forced out a smile. “This guy…” The vein in his neck throbbed. He glanced at a couple of coworkers.
They quickly moved the items back to his desk and brought Caleb’s belongings back to his desk.
Caleb sat down and just did his work.
Sherry kept glancing at him every now and then.
He could feel it, but he didn’t even glance at her.
“You are going to regret picking a fight with him,” Sherry said.
Caleb’s forefinger stopped clicking the mouse. He slightly shifted his head and looked at her. She dressed up especially well today, but she did not appear as pretty in his eyes anymore.
“Why do you care?” Caleb asked.
Her eyes widened a little. “A-Are you really going to behave like this because I rejected your confession?”
Caleb inhaled a bit deeply and said, “Yeah.”
“You’re being childish.”
“I was. But not anymore.”
“Hmph,” she snorted and stopped talking after that.
Moments later, the HR manager directly approached Caleb’s desk with a file and threw it in his face.
“Your drafts are trash. They did not satisfy the clients,” he roared. “If you can’t create good designs, why don’t you go out into the field and lift cement bags? Why are you sitting in an AC room and wasting the company’s money?”
Caleb frowned as embarrassment crept up onto his face.
Mike was snickering from his desk.
So, he was the one who was behind this.
Caleb did not expect Mike to even make the HR manager behave like this. He felt like he underestimated Mike’s influence.
“Just look at you. You are overweight. Your face has no glow, and so do your designs,” the HR manager continued to accuse him, his spit flying and falling all over. Even Sherry who was in the next cubicle was moving away. “Your creativity is coming from your belly, not from your brain. That’s why your designs are being rejected! If this happens again, then prepare to face consequences.”
Caleb had enough.
“I did not receive any negative feedback from the customers,” Caleb angrily retorted. “Some clients even specifically praised my designs on social media. So what nonsense are you spouting, sir?”
“Hmph!” The manager arrogantly responded, saying, “You are daydreaming if you think social media likes have an impact on the company’s growth. Whatever I say is the rule. If I tell you to crawl, you must crawl,” he particularly glanced in Mike’s direction as though he wanted to convey to Caleb what the real issue was, “and if I tell you to leave, then you must leave.”
At that moment, a group of people walked into the company, with the company chairman, Edward Grand, cautiously following behind them.
The HR manager quietened like a puppy before them.
Sherry and Caleb and others also just focused on their work, or at least tried to.
After the chairman and the group went into the guest room, whispers sprang to life in the office.
Mike came over to Sherry’s desk.
“Do you know who they are?” she asked him.
“Of course,” Mike boasted a little bit. “They are the investment team from Phantom Dream Investments. If their negotiations are successful, our company will receive a $1 million investment and expand its core team. That means… you could get into the core team.”
Sherry felt butterflies in her stomach.
“Of course,” Mike glanced at Caleb. “Getting into the core team will remain a dream for some losers.”
Sherry tried her best to not chuckle.
In the five years Caleb was here, he was not able to get promoted to the core team. It wasn’t because of his lack of talent but due to politics and also due to a past mistake.
Sherry also did not receive a promotion because she refused to suck up to the HR manager because he was bald and ugly. This was one of the reasons Caleb liked her because she didn’t sell her body like some other girls did.
Now, thanks to Mike, Sherry could finally get into the core team she had always dreamed of.
Her salary would also climb from being 50K to 80K or even more.
Sherry innocently asked Mike, “At best, only one member will be added into the core team. Do you think I’ll have a chance?”
“I will give you my spot, Sherry,” Mike replied, startling her.
“Huh? Then what about you?” she couldn’t help but ask.
Mike smugly smirked, “My uncle is the one who brought the Phantom Dream Investment company to us. If this deal goes through, I’ll become the head of the interior design department. I’ll be above the core team and every other team in the company.”
Everyone began flattering him immediately, and Sherry was at the front.
The only person who still remained at his seat was Caleb.
And he did not look happy at all.
How could someone like Mike who had little to no work experience become the head of the department?
If that were to happen, Caleb’s life in this company would become living hell.

Caleb opened his eyes. The smell of the medicine flooded his senses. He realized that he was on a hospital bed. One glance around made him notice Rita who was sleeping in the chair. It was nighttime.Given how they were in a separate room, Caleb understood that she booked a separate room for him to be treated, one that had oxygen cylinders and advanced equipment if necessary.“I remember getting home. Did she get me to the hospital?” Caleb frowned.[Do you want to know what she’s dreaming about?] Dreamie asked him.“I can know that?” Caleb was surprised.[You can even enter her dreams since her bond meter score crossed sixty. She feels gravitated toward you, so it’s easier for you to enter her dreams. Doesn’t it sound romantic?]“Sounds creepy,” Caleb said. “Dreams are highly personal. I don’t want others to enter my dreams, either, even if they’re my parents or wife or children.”[You’ve still got a long way to go if you’re bound by such weak emotions.]“Weak or not, these emotions a

Caleb was still on the ground, leaving a trail of blood from his wounded shoulder.Blood also dripped from both corners of his mouth. He couldn’t quite understand what just happened. Why was he bleeding in a spiritual realm? How did the three-headed monkey get the better of him when he threw the punch with everything he got? He surely wasn’t afraid of that monkey when he attacked it, yet his punch was utterly broken. And Caleb also lost his entire right arm.It wasn’t just the arm that suffered damage. Caleb could feel a strange sense of pain gripping his chest, making it difficult for him to breathe.“You need more than just fearlessness to survive in this world,” Caleb said. The three-headed monkey grinned while eating bananas with three heads. “Even if I tell you how I did it, keeek, you wouldn’t be able to learn it now.”It leaped onto a tree, swung over a branch like a pendulum and jumped high into the air, then came down in a spinning motion.Even the winds twisted around the be

The deer wasn't defeated because Caleb was physically stronger. It was defeated because he stopped believing he was weaker than it.Even though he had won against one beast, thousands of more spirit beasts stared at Caleb from the trees, the clouds, and the distant mountains. The horned deer beneath his feet slowly dissolved into silver mist.Caleb frowned. He had surely crushed its skull. He had felt the impact, yet there was no blood. Now, even the body was gone, leaving nothing behind. The spirit mist drifted toward the surrounding beasts and faded away as if it never existed. Then a tiny squirrel jumped off the tree and landed in front of him.It was ‘tiny’ compared to other beasts, but it was still a bit taller than Caleb when it was standing upright.Despite how cute and chubby it looked, it started throwing punches so fast. Caleb could barely see those punches. His body was not able to react in time.He got hit by a dozen punches in a flash. Each punch was like getting hit by a

Rita tried to wake Caleb up, but he didn’t respond at all.She immediately called for an ambulance. It took ten minutes for the ambulance to arrive and then more time to take him to the hospital. The doctors checked the scans and told Rita that several bones were broken in the chest, and that several organs were pierced. So there was no guarantee that Caleb would wake up right after the treatment.Rita sat outside and waited, bringing in all the medicines whenever the nurses asked her to.She had to walk to and fro many times, even during three o’clock at night. She was getting sleepy, but she didn’t sleep. After seven in the morning, the doctor checked Caleb’s condition and said it was finally stable.Only then, Rita was able to breathe better. She called for Faye, but Faye didn’t respond. Caleb walked out of the cemetery and was about to enter his car, but he stopped and looked behind. He was expecting the crow, but there was a man with a thin silver crown on his head. He was looking straight at Caleb.“You want something?” Caleb turned around.“My name is Silver Reign,” he introduced himself with a smile, but that wasn’t a friendly smile. “I’m here to challenge you.”“What’s your rank?”“I’m a C-Rank fighter.”“And you want to fight me, a D-ranker? Don’t you have any shame?”“I don’t want someone else hogging attention away from me,” he rushed forward, his fists giving off a silver glow.Caleb’s eyes widened. He instinctually moved to his left.A silvery glow of energy brushed past his shoulder, ripping his cloth off at that part, leaving a bruise on his skin.Behind him, it hit the ground and left a mini crater in it.“What was that?”“That’s my silver aura,” he threw his fist again from a distance. This time, the energy blast came much faster than he could dodge. It

He was not afraid of Edward, but he was afraid of Rita because he once tried to tempt her, and she slapped him in the face. She didn’t remove him from the job so she could monitor him and make sure he wouldn’t mess with any female employee.Andy did not want Rita to see him working as a gate guard. It would be too humiliating for him.Rita, on the other hand, went to Caleb’s room. The door was locked. “Tch, he’s not home yet?” She made a phone call, but he didn’t respond. “He’s gotta be kidding me? Why is he not answering my call? Is he still hung up on what happened at my home?”“Are you here for Caleb?” a voice reached her ear.Rita saw Velma and nodded. “Yeah.
