The Gold Family estate was filled with laughter and music; the large living room, which was well furnished with the most exquisite items, was filled to the brim with guests.

The air around the room was clouded with a sweet scent of soft and expensive wines, and a mixture of hard alcohols present to lighten the mood further.

Paul Gold, the head of the Gold family, had just received a message that his son-in-law had been promoted to a third rank in the military, and without hesitating, he wanted to celebrate.

His daughter Anna, resplendent in a red cocktail dress, had a bright smile on her face as she chatted with a group of friends who were also singing luxury from the way they were dressed.

Her eyes sparkled with amusement with a glass of champagne between the tips of her fingers and suddenly, the large metal door swung open.

He was a huge man who could be regarded as a giant with broad shoulders and a chiseled chest, obviously under those loose-fitting suits he wore.

Scars etched around his face, evidence of a brutal life he had; his icy blue eyes swept through the room, his gaze lingering on each face as if searching for someone.

The smile that had lingered on Anna's face instantly faded away, her lips parted in surprise and even As she bore her gaze at him, she felt a cold shiver run down her spine.

Mr Paul, who stood at the other end of the large living room, stood frozen, his glass hovering inches away from his lips as he fixed his gaze on the stranger who was not a stranger to him.

The music suddenly came to an abrupt halt; Everyone seemed to have held their breath collectively; the only sound that could be heard was their breath and the throbbing of their chest.

Then a movement that seemed almost imperceptible, Anna's father set his glass aside, his gaze still lingering around the stranger as he called out.

“Kyle?”

His voice seemed to have broken the intense silence, yet it sounded like a question as Kyle remained fixed in a position, his expression still cold and wavering.

Kyle was sent to jail five years ago for the murder of his father and sister, although he was not the accused yet, Kyle had offered to go in place of his wife, Anna.

He knew that the Gold family had all the strings to pull him out of there, but for five years, Kyle waited for them, yet there was no word or action from them.

After five years, he was finally able to make it back home, excited to come start a life back with his wife, but this was not the welcome that he had anticipated.

“Yes, it is me, I am back home!” He finally spoke out and, at this moment, forced a smile on his face that had been deprived of any form of happiness for years.

He expected his wife Anna to run over to him with a warm embrace. He had pictured this moment over and over again when Anna finally got to see him again, the joy, the tears, and the emotions that were going to sweep in, but this was not what he had expected.

Yet Anna remained in the same position, her heart racing and her palm having become sweaty as she thought to herself, why did it have to be now of all time, or was he sent to ruin the perfect life she was having?

“Kyle, is this truly you?” Anna's voice finally came through; she took a few steps closer to him, her hands and feet shivering as she did.

“Yes, it's me, baby, I am back home” The smile on his face was filled with hope, he spread up his arms, expecting his wife to fall into his arms with tears of joy, yet Anna maintained a blank expression and after walking a few inches closer to him, she stopped.

“Good for you. I thought that you were going to rot in there!” Her words were like a slap to his face.

He had been in prison for five years in her place for a crime that she was accused of, and after all the brutal life he had to go through for five years, this is what she says to him.

“Come on Anna, you should be happy for me!”

“I am happy for you, but as you can see, we are busy right now. How about you leave and we can talk later”

It was at that moment that the smile on his face slowly faded away, they were instantly replaced with confusion, his eyes trailing from one person to another, yet everyone had the same expression, a look of disgust on their face.

“What are you saying Anna, I am back home, this isn't how you should welcome me”

“I wish but it's been five years Kyle, so much has changed and you don't expect me to treat you the way that I did all these years, things have changed”

She suggested but his eyes still peaked with confusion. He was hoping that all of this was a prank and that this wasn't truly happening to him.

There was this pain that was slowly surging through his, yet Kyle ignored all of this, he could not believe that something like this would happen.

Mr. Paul finally walked towards him; he gently patted his shoulder before he spoke in a low tone.

“You should leave right now Kyle, we have guests present, whatever this is, we are going to sort it out later”

“What are you saying father, I have been away for a while and only just came out, I have nowhere to go, this is the only home that I have”

He reminded him even though he knew that they were fully aware of that, and rather than a response, Mr. Paul carefully dipped his hand into his pocket, forcing a few cash into Kyle's palm.

“This should be enough for you to lodge at a hotel tomorrow, we will sort this out tomorrow”

He spoke in a whisper, and it was at that moment that Kyle felt like he had reached his limits.

Kyle immediately slammed the money back at his face, his face scrunched up into a deep frown, and this time, he turned to everyone with his fist clenched furiously.

“What the hell is this? This is my home. I have been away for years, and this is how my wife welcomes me, and you all expect me to be okay with this; this is not acceptable!”

He yelled at the top of his voice, drawing the attention of others who were chanting on the balcony.

This time, a young man walks over to him, dressed in a sophisticated, tailored suit; he can tell that he is a man of power.

With both his hands tucked into his pocket, he spoke in a low tone to Kyle.

“You just said it all, that you just came out of prison, I am sure that you don't want to end up there again, how about you listen to Mr. Gold walk out of here while you still can”

Although the gentleman had a calm expression on his face, there was this danger lurking in his eyes, which Kyle could clearly see, and that seemed to have gotten him more furious.

“Are you threatening me? You are just a guest here, this is a family issue and I don't think that you want to get involved”

“Guest! Family issue!” Jake scoffed, his gaze trailing through Kyle from head to toe in a disdainful manner.

Just then, Anna walked over to them, standing next to Jake, she wrapped his arms around him.

“Baby, you should ignore him; he is not worth it,” Anna spoke like Kyle wasn't there, and even if he was, it didn't matter.

Kyle felt his heart grow cold; he could not believe what was going on, yet he still struggled to put himself together and not lash out before everyone else.

“What is going on here, Anna, and who is this man?”

“What were you expecting Kyle, that I was going to sit down for Five years and wait for me, I am sorry Kyle but I moved on, and o think that it's time you do the same”

“Move on?” His gaze widened, his jaws tightened, and as he flickered his eyes, a wry smile appeared on his lips, yet he drifted back, his calm demeanor still visible despite the shocking scene that was presenting itself before his vet eyes.

Just when Anna was about to speak again, a little girl rushed over to her side.

“Mommy! Daddy!” The little girl called out, referring to Anna and Jake. At that moment, his heart grew cold; he felt his entire world shattered into tiny pieces, and he froze there, unable to move.

“You have a daughter!”

I am going to seek custody of the child,” he blurted out. She could feel the anger in his voice, knowing Kyle all these years, Sky knew that he was not an impulsive guy, but now, all that she could see in his eyes was desperation. “Come on, Kyle, I think that you should slow down on this one, you do realize that the Gold family isn't going to let you get custody of the child.” “Like they stand a chance,” she shrugged, finally settling down in her office as his eyes trailed around. “So when is t
