Chapter Eight

Marcus arrived outside the Whitaker Clubhouse.

The moment he tried to enter, two security guards immediately stepped in front of him and blocked his path. Their eyes traveled over his clothes, and their expressions quickly became filled with disdain.

"Where do you think you're going?" one of them asked.

Marcus simply smirked. "Inside, of course," he replied. He didn't raise his voice despite being in a hurry.

"And why do you think you belong here?" the other guard asked rudely.

Marcus looked at him calmly. "And how did you know I don't belong here?"

The guard sneered. "You could never belong in a place like this. Look at what you're wearing. The people allowed inside this clubhouse are business executives and people of extremely important status. You don't fit into any of those categories."

Marcus took a deep breath.

He wasn't here to argue with a couple of security guards. Without saying another word, he pulled out the Supreme Black Card Sophia had given him earlier.

"This is my pass. Am I allowed to go in now?" he asked.

The two guards glanced at each other. Their expressions immediately changed.

"Isn't that the Wilson Supreme VIP Black Card?" one of them asked in disbelief.

The other guard quickly nodded. They took the card and carefully checked it with their verification device.

A few seconds later, the result appeared. It was authentic, the guard's face immediately became serious. "We're sorry. You can go inside. Sorry, can we know your name?"

"Marcus" He replied simply.."Anything else?" He asked, and they nodded negatively..

Marcus took the card back and walked toward the entrance. But the moment he disappeared through the doors, the two guards looked at each other again.

"Something isn't right," one of them muttered.

"Exactly. Someone carrying a card like that should be arriving in a convoy, not walking here alone dressed like that."

"We need to report it."

One of them quickly grabbed his walkie-talkie. "Sir, there's a man named Marcus carrying the Wilson Supreme VIP Black Card who has just entered the clubhouse. We don't know his identity, but he looks extremely ordinary. His clothes are practically tattered."

The voice on the other end immediately became serious. "That could be an imposter. Did you verify the card?"

"Yes, sir. The card isn't fake. It's completely authentic."

The man on the other end fell silent. He couldn't understand how someone carrying something that important had arrived without any prior notice.

"Give me a few minutes to confirm his identity," he finally said.

The supervisor lowered the walkie-talkie, still unable to hide his disbelief.

The Wilson Supreme Black Card was one of the highest-status cards in existence. There were only a handful of them, and they belonged to people with extraordinary connections to the Wilson family. The most important one belonged to Lady Sophia herself.

Without Wilson blood or a direct connection to the family, there was almost no way an ordinary person could possess such a card.

He couldn't help but wonder if the card had been stolen or somehow copied.

Meanwhile, at Wilson Group headquarters, Sophia was personally handling the final investment partnership arrangements.

"Have you decided on the final partnership, Lady Sophia?" Lily asked.

"Not yet, but I'll decide soon," Sophia replied as she continued looking through the list of candidates in front of her.

Her eyes suddenly stopped on one particular company. "The Knox Ventures." She paused. "Isn't that the company owned by Marcus's ex-wife?"

Lily nodded. "Yes. CEO Genevieve Knoxville."

While Marcus had been in prison, Sophia had quietly conducted a background investigation into him.

She had discovered that Marcus had a wife. She had also discovered the worst part. Genevieve had been cheating on him with Donald Lionel, the same man who had been responsible for Marcus ending up in prison.

Sophia was also aware of the divorce that had taken place outside the prison earlier that day.

The more she learned, the more she couldn't understand how someone could betray a man who had sacrificed everything for her. "I never knew she was going to apply for this project," Sophia said.

"She's determined to climb higher," Lily replied. "That's good for a woman. Maybe she's just choosing the wrong way to do it."

Sophia frowned. "I don't know what to do with her."

She stared at Genevieve's company name for a moment, debating whether she should approve the application or reject it.

Just then, her phone suddenly rang. Lily glanced at the screen. "It's from the Whitaker clubhouse."

Sophia sighed. Pick it up. Let's hear why they're calling."

Lily answered the call and immediately turned on the loudspeaker. "Hello, this is Lady Sophia's office."

"We're sorry to disturb you, but we wanted to inform Lady Sophia that someone carrying the Wilson Supreme Black Card has suddenly made his way into the Whitaker Clubhouse. We're trying to verify his identity to make sure he isn't an imposter," the voice said from the other end.

Lily and Sophia exchanged glances.

"What's the name?" Lily asked.

"Marcus. We're sorry, we don't know his last name," the voice replied.

"Verified," Lily answered.

The call ended.

"Why is Marcus at the clubhouse?" Lily asked, looking confused. "I mean, the same clubhouse where Director Dickson is. Or perhaps it's just a coincidence and he was already going there to flaunt the money?"

Sophia remained quiet as she thought about it.

Dickson was at the Whitaker Clubhouse to handle a partnership deal. If he was there, then Genevieve Knoxville would most likely be there as well.

So Marcus being there suddenly made perfect sense.

A playful smile slowly appeared on Sophia's beautiful face. "This is becoming more interesting than I thought," she muttered.

Lily looked at her. "I think I know what you're thinking. Dickson, Genevieve, Marcus."

Sophia smiled without answering.

"Let's head to the clubhouse," she finally said. "I'm leaving the final decision regarding the Knox Ventures deal in Marcus's hands.”
