Chapter Two

"And you're nothing but a leech, a money-sucking insect. All you do is spend my money and add no value to my life. I'm a CEO now. While you were away, my business flourished without you. I'm now known in places you can't even step your foot into. So tell me, aren't we two worlds apart?"

Marcus suddenly burst into laughter.

It was a cold and painful laugh that made even Genevieve look at him strangely.

She was the one standing there calling him a leech and a useless man.

Three years ago, her company had been nothing. It was Marcus who had gone out of his way to help her build it. Every bit of the initial capital she used to start the company had come from the money he had saved himself.

He had given her everything he had.

And now she was standing in front of him, proudly telling him that she had built everything without him.

Marcus had not even gotten the chance to speak when Genevieve pulled out a check and held it toward him.

"I knew this was going to be difficult. A man like you wouldn't leave unless money was involved. I thought you were different and would simply sign the papers, but Donald was right about you."

She paused before continuing, her expression filled with impatience.

"I don't have time to keep going back and forth with you. Just make everything easy for me because I have something much bigger to attend to."

Genevieve's face suddenly brightened with excitement.

"An international company has entered the city. The Wilson Group, known as the number one company in the entire world."

She paused and gave a mocking laugh.

"Sorry, I forgot. You could never know a company like that. But I'll take my time to enlighten you so you understand just how far I've gone and why I can't have someone like you around me dimming my shine."

Marcus remained silent.

"The Wilson Group is one of the most successful families in the world. Nobody even knows the true extent of their wealth. They're the biggest investors in the world."

Genevieve's smile became wider.

"So here's the newsflash. One of Donald's relatives works in the Wilson Group, and he's putting in a good word for me. Once they agree to the deal and invest in my company, I'll move into the second tier of the business world."

She looked at Marcus with a proud expression.

"Do you even know how big that is?"

Marcus simply scoffed.

He had finally stopped fooling himself.

For three years, he had held onto the belief that Genevieve loved him. He had defended her, sacrificed for her, and even accepted three years in prison because of her.

But now he finally understood the truth.

She had never loved him, and there's no need chasin a deadbeat.

Without arguing with either of them, Marcus picked up the divorce papers, signed them, and handed them back to Genevieve.

"I don't need your money."

Marcus's voice was calm and completely firm.

Genevieve and Donald immediately looked at each other before chuckling mockingly.

"Gosh, look at him pretending to be noble," Donald sneered. "We both know you need that check because you're poorer than a church rat."

The two of them laughed again.

But Marcus didn't care. They had no idea that the three years he had spent behind those prison walls had completely changed his life.

When he first entered prison, Marcus had been an ordinary man with nothing but his loyalty to Genevieve, and was regularly beaten and bullied by the other inmates. Even if he tries to fight back they always overpowered him.

But everything changed when he met Master Arthur. Nobody knew who the mysterious old man truly was. He had been locked away in the deepest section of the prison, a place ordinary inmates could never enter.

Master Arthur had taken a liking to Marcus and eventually accepted him as his disciple.. he's someone who had her into the prison not because he committed some offence but because he decided to take time off the outside world because of conflict and bloodshed.

For three years, Marcus had followed the old man's teachings and learned things that ordinary people could never imagine. Martial arts, medicine, and business.

And countless other skills that Master Arthur had spent his entire life mastering.

Before Marcus left the prison, Master Arthur had given him his entire inheritance. It was an inheritance so enormous that even the wealth of the most powerful families in the city could not compare to it.

The money Genevieve was offering him was nothing. It was not even worth mentioning.

Genevieve and Donald simply had no idea that the man they were laughing at had already inherited a power and wealth far beyond anything they could imagine.

The two of them laughed again.

"We shouldn't waste any more time on him," Genevieve said, suddenly losing interest in Marcus. "The deal is much more important."

She turned around and walked toward the Ferrari with Donald.

Marcus stood there silently as they climbed into the car.

Just as they were about to drive away, Genevieve rolled down the window and looked at him one last time.

"Go get your sick mother who's about to die out of my house. And be very quick about it. I don't want her bringing bad luck into my life."

Marcus's expression changed instantly. "My mother?" His voice trembled slightly for the first time since he had walked out of prison.

"What happened to my mother?"

He immediately took a step toward the Ferrari, but Genevieve had already rolled up the window.

"Wait!" Marcus shouted and rushed toward the car.

The Ferrari suddenly accelerated toward him.

Marcus stopped abruptly as the expensive car sped past him, missing his body by only a few inches.

He stood completely still as he watched the car disappear down the road.

His hands slowly tightened into fists.

Marcus vividly remembered that his mother had been doing perfectly fine before he went to prison. She only had a minor health issue that caused her to get tired occasionally. The doctor had assured him that it was nothing serious and that some medication would be enough.

So how had she become critically ill to the point of dying?

Marcus's heart tightened as he thought about it.

What had happened while he was away? Maybe... just maybe, a lot had happened during those three years.

He was about to leave in a hurry when the deep sound of approaching engines suddenly caught his attention.

A luxurious Rolls-Royce slowly pulled up in front of the prison gates. It was the latest model in the city, its polished body gleaming beneath the sunlight. Several equally expensive luxury cars followed closely behind it.

The moment they stopped, the doors of the cars opened almost simultaneously.

Men dressed in perfectly tailored black suits stepped out one after another. They moved with absolute discipline before forming two neat lines beside the Rolls-Royce.

Then, every single one of them lowered their heads.

Nobody spoke, no one dared to look toward the car.

A young woman in an expensive business suit stepped out from one of the cars and quickly walked toward the Rolls-Royce. Another man in a black suit immediately opened the rear door.

And then she appeared.

A woman slowly stepped out of the Rolls-Royce.

She wore an elegant gown that fitted her figure perfectly, revealing a graceful and stunning silhouette. Her long hair fell naturally over her shoulders, while her delicate features carried an effortless beauty that made it difficult to look away.

She was poised, elegant and expensive.

But beneath that beauty was an intimidating aura that made the entire atmosphere around her feel different.

From her flawless makeup to the jewelry adorning her body and the expensive heels beneath her feet, everything about her screamed wealth and status.

Marcus couldn't help but stare for a moment.

He had seen beautiful women before, but the woman standing in front of him was different.

She did not need to say a word to command attention.

The men in suits kept their heads lowered as she walked past them, none of them daring to raise their eyes.

Marcus quickly looked away. He had more important things to worry about. His mother was sick, and every second mattered.

He turned around and was about to walk away without caring about the identity of the woman when a young woman in a sharp business suit suddenly hurried toward him and stepped directly into his path.

"What are you doing?" she demanded. "How can you just walk away without acknowledging Lady Sophia of the Wilson Group? She's the CEO of the Wilson Group. Who do you think you are?"

Marcus looked towards her.

The moment Sophia heard her assistant's words, she slowly turned around.

"Lily." Her voice was soft, but it carried enough authority to make the young woman immediately stop.

"Stop."

Lily's expression changed instantly. "I'm sorry, Lady Sophia." She quickly stepped backward.

Sophia walked toward Marcus herself.

She stopped directly in front of him and looked into his eyes.

For a brief moment, the intimidating woman everyone feared suddenly revealed a sweet smile.

"Sorry I came late," Sophia said softly. "I was trying to make sure I looked perfect for you."

That words left Marcus staring in confusion.

Before he could even process what she had just said, Sophia smiled even more sweetly. "When are we getting married, my future husband?”

"And how did you know I don't belong here?"The guard sneered. "You could never belong in a place like this. Look at what you're wearing. The people allowed inside this clubhouse are business executives and people of extremely important status. You don't fit into any of those categories."Marcus took a deep breath. He wasn't here to argue with a couple of security guards.
