Chapter 5

“Come on, let's help him inside,” Tina pulled herself out of her shocked state.

With both of them supporting him on either side, they helped him to one of the sofas inside.

“Who did this to you, Moise?” Cathy repeated, brows furrowed as she watched Moise writhe in pain on the sofa.

“Neal," Moise moaned pathetically. "That man is a devil. A wolf in sheep's clothing. I merely pointed out the truth and he beat me up.”

Cathy blinked. Then she frowned. “Neal did this to you? Are you sure? Neal would never do this."

Neal has lived with them for years and never raised his hands at her or anyone. Heck, he never even speaks up for himself.

Moise pursed his lips to stifle his groan as he painfully turned to look at Cathy's face.

“But he did, Cathy.” He sighed. "If I knew I'd have just kept my mouth shut and turned back around,” he murmured.

“I’m telling you, Cathy, I only wanted to help him. I pointed out something that could get him in trouble. I was going to take it and save him.” He emphasized, “I was going to save him from inevitable questioning, but instead of being grateful, the jerk accused me of ruining his plans.”

Cathy's frown deepened.

“Plans?" Tina echoed behind Cathy.

Moise managed to scoff. "Yes, the jerk had plans. He said I prevented him from enjoying life in a wealthy family. Then, he suddenly attacked me.”

Cathy couldn't believe her ears. If it wasn't Moise, she'd have been certain that the person was lying. How could he have done this to him when he was just trying to help?

Moise winced. “Cathy, you needed to have seen him. He was like a beast. I'm so glad he's out of your life. I hope he has never hit you?” He asked.

But Cathy didn't hear his question. She was deafened by the fury she felt. She felt utterly disgusted by Neal.

“How dare he?” She erupted quietly. And to think that she pitied his miserable life. Why was she even surprised? He had been honest when she asked him why he really was with her.

Without another thought, she stormed out of the house.

All along the bastard had been pretending, hiding his true colors because of the money he was going to get.

She was prepared to give him a piece of her mind but when she got outside, she was disappointed to find that Neal had already left the villa. She pulled out her phone from her pocket and dialed his number, but he left it unanswered.

Cathy gritted her teeth. Her fingers trembled as she re-dialed his number several times. She clutched her phone in her palm, seething with anger. Eventually, she returned to the house.

“Did you find him?” Tina bolted to her feet once Cathy stepped in, equally enraged.

“No,” Cathy clipped. “He’s left." Her gaze fell on Moise and she felt her anger heighten.

“That bastard!” Tina cursed.

“I can't believe this! Neal is being outrageous! How can he do this to Moise? What did he do to deserve this insult?” She lamented as she walked up to Neal's side. She knelt beside him and touched her palm to his neck, then his forehead, taking care to avoid his throbbing bruises.

“I'm sorry, Moise. I didn't know he was someone like that. I had no idea he was capable of such violence.”

“He's obviously a pretender,” Moise sneered. "He has been pretending a lot."

“Turns out he's not only a useless man, he's also a pretender, a liar, and a gold digger,” Tina said as she placed the towel on Moise's forehead.

Cathy sighed. “Should we take Moise to the…" She was saying when she looked up at her mother, but she trailed off as she found a sly smile on her mother's lips.

“Mom?” She called, wary.

Tina slowly turned to face Cathy. “You do remember that Neal has a relative in the hospital, don't you?”

“Yes? What has that got to do with—”

”We pay the hospital bills of that relative.”

Cathy's brows went up.

Tina continued, “Imagine what would happen if we stop covering his sick relative’s medical expenses.” Her grin widened, “He'd come crawling back and apologize to Moise."

"That is a way to get him to apologize…" Cathy began slowly, "But how serious is his relative’s condition?”

Tina sneered, dismissively waving her hand in the air. "The illness isn't critical. The relative just needs basic care. Neal actually agreed to marry into our family to care for that old woman.”

Cathy thought that it made sense. That was why he agreed that he was only with her for money.

“Let's do what is next then.” Cathy put matters into her own hands then she picked up her phone and called the hospital.

“Hello, ma'am…”

She interrupted the person who answered the phone.

“I called to inform you that we'd no longer cover Neal’s relative’s medical expenses.” Then, she smirked, “Also…”

After Neal left the villa, he decided to go to the hospital to visit Beverly.

On his way, his mind wandered endlessly and several thoughts filled his head.

He still couldn't believe what had happened an hour ago. After all he had done for Cathy, he didn't expect her to make such a sudden decision, talk more of going back to the person who once abandoned her.

A few feet from Beverly's ward, the movement in the doorway caught his attention.

He came to an abrupt halt, just as a nurse pushed Beverly out of the room and into the hallway.

Neal rushed forward.

"What are you doing? What's going on?” He rushed out, confusion clouding his mind.

Why would the nurse do this to Beverly? Knowing fully well that her condition was too severe for her to be handled roughly. Being removed from the hospital will be like a death sentence.

Neal looked down at Beverley’s face and his breath caught. She was as pale as a ghost!

“Why did you push her out? Why are you handling her so roughly?”

The nurse sneered at Neal. “The Nelson family has ordered her removal from this hospital.”

Neal’s breath slowed.

What! That's very impossible. Why would Cathy stop it?

So many questions ran through his mind but he pushed them aside. That wasn't something he needed to worry about yet. Right now, he needed to get Beverly back to the hospital room.

"What can I do to get her admitted back to the hospital?” He asked. He didn't wait for a response and instead reached into his pocket for his wallet. “You know what? Take my card.”

The nurse eyed the card levelly, then her gaze roved his form before she scoffed. “This hospital is owned by the Nelson family and nothing you do can make us go against their order.”

She let out a loud burp, she palmed her mouth, eyes wide and then, she giggled. She staggered back only for one of the men to grope her again. The lady hit the man's chest as though her limbs had turned to jelly. “Let go. Leave me alone...” Instead of doing as she'd asked, the man grinned, “Laugh some more for me, pretty lady." The mere sight of his discolored teeth disgusted Neal. The lady giggled. Then they all burst into a fit of laughter. “Let me go…" the lady slurred again. The men laughed. “Why let you go, pretty girl? Neal looked up. “What's up? You found another material?”She shook her head. “I want to invite you to my house. You know we could catch up more comfortably there and study longer without all the gossip going around.” Then she nervously added with a shrug, "I'm not trying to impose or anything. You can decline if it's inconvenient or a bad time.”Neal shook his head. “You're not imposing. It's no big deal. When?”She hesitated. It was almost like she was dumping it all on him. She should have asked before. “How about today?”She was gladdened when Neal shrugged and said, “Sure.” Then he returned his focus to studying.Vanessa beamed. A few minutes later, they headed out to attend their remaining classes for the day. After the last class, they both made their way to the library. In the library, while Vanessa packed her hair into a ponytail, preparing to get to work, Neal printed out the list of textbooks and materials they were to look out for. He handed one copy to Vanessa. “You cou

It's like he disappeared off the face of the earth.”“Maybe he's depressed,” Someone chipped in from another group.“What if he's planning to sue Neal?” The other whispered.“Why will he?” Another student interjected. “Peter was the one who made the rule, not Neal. Neal was simply sticking to their agreement.”From another group, someone mused, “I heard his father grounded him.”The group guffawed. “What is he? Ten?”“His father didn't ground him,” another student poked his head in. "But I'm sure his father would have been very mad. That video went viral on the internet. Everyone saw it.”Vanessa overheard some of these whispers as she walked through the hallway with Neal by her side.“All they do is talk and assume and gossip

So instead of worrying, she tried to work but she couldn't concentrate. She tried to sleep but instead of that, she spent all night tossing in bed, thinking of how to make everything right. It was such an unproductive night. She sighed as she sluggishly brought out her phone from her bag. Her lower lip jutted out after she unlocked her phone and there were neither missed calls nor messages. She had been expecting a call from Moise but had gotten none. She thought. But i

He took in the passing people, buildings, and cars as he relived the last few minutes, as he breathed in relief that he was no longer bound by any secret contract again.Amber, on the other hand, was pissed. She was pissed at all of those jerks called the Nelson family for treating Neal the way they did. She was enraged by the audacity of their insulting the Beckman heir. How dare they?
