Chapter 6

That evening….

In a village, in a particular compound, not really tidy, people moved around, carrying out different chores.

Some mothers backed their children, pressing the others against themselves while staying focused.

The compound was busy with chores.

Just then—

A car pulled over and stopped.

Chores stopped. Some stood straight to scan the car.

A trace of fear was slowly creeping onto their faces.

Some parents were secretly pulling their children closer, whispering to them to hurry inside.

At that moment while they were watching, a tall, calm figure stepped down from the car.

It was Kane Wade.

And this is his hometown.

He hadn't forgotten it.

He took in the place briefly before pulling out a bill from the money Williams Johnson had given him and handing it to the driver.

He turned and started to walk toward a particular building.

All eyes followed him, watching in silence.

Kane then paused.

In front of him stood an abandoned building.

The building was built from ordinary cement blocks and a rusted zinc roof that had endured many rainy seasons. Its paint had now faded, leaving patches of pale cream and dull brown on the walls. Some of the windows were broken, while others hung loosely in their frames, allowing the wind to move freely through the empty rooms.

As Kane was looking at it, an image flashed through his eyes.

He felt his chest tightened.

His hands balling into tight fists.

He clenched his lips.

This is their house.

The one that night.

The very one that the masked men stormed in and killed his father unapologetically.

As he stared, everything within him began to shake with anger. Extreme one.

“Excuse me, young man," a voice snapped. Kane turned to look at the man, seeming to be in his late forties.

He loosened his fists.

"Are you aware you can be arrested for staring at someone's property the way you're doing?” The man asked.

Kane blinked. Just once. “Someone's property? What do you mean?"

He couldn't remember the property being sold out to anyone.

The man nodded. "According to hearsay, this building belonged to one certain man like that, Mr. Wa—Wade. Not his full name though. But after his son killed him, the government took over the property. However, a group of men, who seems to be more powerful than the government, now claims it."

Kane stared at him without interrupting.

So, this is how the whole matter was framed?

That he killed his own father?

That thought moved.

Another came.

The government once claimed the property, and now some group of men.

"These men are also in charge of taking taxes from everyone.”

Kane frowned. He opened his mouth to speak when—

“Damnit, man. I got it!”

"You cheated, bitch!”

A sarcastic laugh echoed from inside the building.

"Who are those?” Kane mumbled.

"The whole building was rented out to them,” the man answered.

Kane's fist tightened again.

What the hell! Someone rented out their property and is making money from it?

He cursed under a hot breath.

With that, he reached the door immediately, legs trembling with anger.

The man rushed after him. “What do you think you're doing? Those men are dangerous. D—"

Before he could even complete his sentence, Kane had already banged on the door, the impact at which he hit causing it to quake.

“Who the fuck is that?!" A voice growled from inside, furious.

“Open the damn door!" Kane barked.

“Fuck you, bitch! Go away from there!" A different voice warned. “We're busy!"

Kane's face turned red.

"Open the door! Now!”

"Are you stupid? Deaf? Or what? Or don't you understand we're busy? Get lost!”

Kane bit his lips in rage.

Without another word, he moved backward, then he charged forward, his right leg rising, and with great force, he slammed it at the door.

Bang!

The door responded without any delay.

It flew from its mounted spot, flying across the room, and crashing onto the ground with almost a deafening sound.

"What the hell!”

"Jesus Christ!”

The men inside screamed in terror. Their gazes moved instinctively toward the entrance.

No more door.

Way opened. The road was cleared.

Kane stood right there. Arms crossed over his chest.

His expression was unreadable.

“How dare you not listen to us?" One of the men barked, nose flaring up in anger. “I'll teach you a lesson!"

Just like that.

He lunged his fist, aiming at Kane's nose……

Chapter 9Kane winked. The name sounded familiar to him. But he couldn't instantly tell or remember where he had heard such a name. He waved it off and straightened his posture. “Bo Chen?" He repeated. “Who's that?" The lady looked up slightly. “The old man from the prison. The one who taught you what you know now." Boom! The word struck. He remembered. He shifted. "You mean Bo Chen, the old man from the prison?” The lady tilted her head. "Yes,” she confirmed. "Where's he?” Kane quickly asked. The lady's lips parted with a smile. “That's why we're here," she said. “He sent us to bring you to him." Kane narrowed his eyes between the men and the lady before finally settling them on the lady. A trace of doubt and suspicion crossed his face. Bo Chen had suddenly disappeared from the prison with no trace of where he was. And suddenly, he's sending people to bring him?How did he even know he was out of prison? Kane questioned himself in his mind. Then another thought came. What

"I don't care to know who you are, but I want you to disappear now. Just as you came.”No movement.Kane didn't even bother to look at his face. His fist tightened."I'm talking to you,” he roared, eyes turning red. Kane lifted his head. Just a bit and slowly. "I said, stand up and disappear!” No answer immediately. Then a second passed and….."That's what you should do. Not me," Kane finally responded. “This is my house." Brian blinked, taken aback by his response. His men exchanged looks.
