The next day, Gabriel hailed a cab and went to his campus. He did not use the luxury car his father had given him because it would only attract unwanted attention.

Wearing cream linen pants and a black short-sleeved shirt, Gabriel stepped onto the campus. Several bandages on his forehead and arms made people stare at him.

They looked at each other and threw comments at Gabriel.

“Look at him, isn’t he Gabriel Bruhn? Look at his face and hands!”

“I think it’s the result of ruining Fiona Laurent’s birthday party.”

“How can someone like him claim that Fiona is his girlfriend? He’s so ridiculous."

“I’m glad he’s still alive. I can’t imagine someone like him facing someone as rich and powerful as Alexis Blaise.”

Gabriel heard the comments that cornered him, but he paid no heed. He rushed to the classroom because Mr. Johnson’s class was about to start. He didn’t want to miss his class.

Mr. Johnson had entered the classroom first while Gabriel walked behind him. Seeing Gabriel’s arrival, his classmates were taken aback, especially Gabriel’s two close friends, Joseph and Louis.

Gabriel saw an empty seat between Joseph and Louis’ seats, so he hurried to sit there.

“Thank God, it was close,” Gabriel muttered as he put down his bag.

Louis and Joseph’s gazes turned to Gabriel. A mixture of worry and relief crossed their faces.

“Gabriel, where have you been? We’ve tried to contact you but your number is off. What happened?” Louis asked.

“Did you attend Fiona Laurent’s birthday party on Saturday night? Everyone is talking about you. They said you came to her birthday party and ruined it,” Joseph chimed in.

Before Gabriel could respond, Louis threw another question. “And is it true that you claim to be Fiona’s boyfriend? Come on Gabriel, we never knew about that.”

Fiona gave Gabriel a condition that if he wanted to be her boyfriend, then he should not tell anyone about their relationship, including his close friends. Therefore, Gabriel never told anyone about his relationship with Fiona, nor did he show any gestures that indicated that Fiona was his girlfriend.

He heard about Fiona’s birthday party from Joseph, but after that he left his dorm room to get a loan and then buy a doll for her. He didn’t go back to his dorm room and went straight to Fiona’s party.

Gabriel took a deep breath, and he smiled faintly. “Something happened to me, but don’t worry, I’m fine,” he replied.

Louis frowned. A hint of suspicion on his face. “If you’re fine, then what’s all this?” He touched the bandages on Gabriel’s face and arms. “Is this all the work of Fiona’s rich boyfriend, Alexis Blaise?”

Gabriel remained silent and stared at Louis without giving an answer. The voice of the lecturer who started the lesson distracted his gaze.

“Thank you so much for your concern my friends, but I think we better listen to Mr. Johnson now,” Gabriel stated.

With that, their attention was focused on Mr. Johnson until the class ended. When the break time arrived, all the students started to leave the classroom, but not Gabriel’s two friends.

“Hey mates, how about we go to the canteen now?” Gabriel asked.

Louis shook his head. “Sorry Gabriel, I only have enough money to buy bread and peanut butter. I probably won’t be able to eat out for a month, even at a cheap canteen,” he responded.

“Me too, Gabriel. I’m saving up to buy my favorite soccer club jersey,” Joseph chimed in.

“Don’t worry, I’ll pay this time. How about we try eating at Premium Cafeteria?” Gabriel’s words made his two friends chuckle.

“Gabriel, I appreciate your kind gesture, but Premium Cafeteria isn’t a place for people like us. Only rich kids eat there,” Louis replied.

“There’s no harm in trying to eat there once. Come on, I’m serious,” Gabriel affirmed in a serious tone.

Louis and Joseph looked at each other, then their gazes shifted to Gabriel.

“It seems you’re forcing us, so we can’t refuse. Okay then, let’s go, Louis!” Joseph excitedly got up from his seat and walked first.

Meanwhile, Louis put his arm around Gabriel’s shoulder and they walked side by side. Louis looked at Gabriel with curiosity on his face.

“It seems like something happened to you, an unusual event,” Louis whispered guessing.

Gabriel chuckled. “What do you mean? What do you think of me, bro?” A playful smile on his lips.

“It’s unusual for you to want to treat us to Premium Cafeteria. I remind you once again Gabriel, that the food there is quite expensive for broke students like us. If you can’t pay, then Joseph and I will run away when they ask us to wash the dishes,” Louis reminded Gabriel.

Joseph who was walking in front of them turned his head and chuckled. “Yes, Gabriel. I hope you’re not tricking us,” he chimed in.

Gabriel shook his head as he burst into laughter. “Guys I won’t trap you, don’t worry. Just enjoy your food, okay?”

A hint of suspicion in Louis’ face. There was still a question for Gabriel that lingered in his mind. “And by the way, you haven’t answered my question in class. Are you really in a relationship with Fiona Laurent?”

His question faded the laughter on Gabriel’s face. The young man sighed heavily before speaking. “Yes, Fiona and I have been a couple for a year,” he answered. News of his relationship with Fiona had spread throughout the university, so he might as well admit it.

Both Louis and Joseph were taken aback. “Are you serious? You’ve been with her for a year?” exclaimed Joseph in surprise.

Gabriel nodded, a mix of resentment and disappointment still etched on his face when talking about Fiona. “Yes! She told me not to tell anyone about our relationship.”

“That’s nonsense! She just wanted to use you, bro! If she loves you, there’s no way she would hide your relationship,” responded Louis.

“Thank goodness you’ve found her true color now. A girl like her doesn’t deserve to be with you. It’s her loss!” said Joseph encouraging Gabriel.

Their conversation ended as they arrived in front of the Premium Cafeteria. They stepped into it, and they were greeted by the sight of familiar people, who were none other than Fiona and her friends.
