CHAPTER NINE
Clinton woke up the next morning, filled with so much positive energy and a mindset that left him with an evergreen smile. From the moment he walked out of his room, he refused to get rid of his beam, sauntering along the hallway with his eyes ahead of him. Ignoring the silly comments from some of the students who had something to say about the rumors that had been going on around the school, Clinton made his way toward the science laboratories, his steps still increasing as he got closer to the tall building. Suddenly, he was doubled crossed by a black sports car, causing him to stagger and almost fall. Clinton grunted, having realized whose car that was, his eyes burning with annoyance as he stared silently. “Billy…” He grunted, clenching his fists tightly as he stared with disdain sparking in his eyes. At first, he had the intention of moving away, but on second thought, he decided that he was going to take the bull by the horns, standing still and staring at Billy through the windshield of the car. After a few seconds, Billy finally stepped out of the car, staring at Clinton with a sinister smile on his face. His wry smile showed his evil intention, and his plan to deal with Clinton. “Look who we have here!” Billy sneered, eyes burning with contempt. “The school pauper!” He continued, his teeth showing the evil intention that he had not gotten rid of. At that moment, some of the students who were meant to be on their way to lectures stopped to see what was about to unfold. Of course, no one was going to miss the opportunity of seeing the school bully deal with the school pauper who had been labeled the worst student due to his appearance and his inability to be among the ruling class in the school. Basically, everyone was still talking about the event of the other night, wondering if Billy still had some other thing up his sleeves apart from stealing Clinton’s supposed girlfriend from him. “Where to?” Billy asked, inching two steps closer to Clinton. He had refused to get rid of his sinister smile, and as usual, he looked at Clinton as though he wished he could snap his neck. “Where are you going?” He asked again, but this time, his tone was more imperative than it was earlier, demanding an immediate response. Clinton took a deep breath, and then he cleared his throat. “Why are you asking?” He retorted, eyes burning with impatience. “I am not obliged to give you any response, Billy…” He sighed heavily, but that didn’t seem like it was going to be able to get rid of the feeling that had gripped him. Each time he looked at Billy, he was reminded of everything that happened that fateful night, causing his rage to increase. “When I ask you a question, you give me a straight answer…” Billy growled at him, eyes flaming rapidly. Clinton saw that he was in the mood for some trouble, but that was something that he wasn’t prepared for. So he took a deep breath which he let out slowly. “I don’t think that I am obliged to give you any response, Billy. But just in case your life depends on it, I am on my way to physics classes…” Billy scoffed, so loudly that anyone standing far behind him could have heard it. “Why?” He asked, looking Clinton in the eyes. “Why bother going to classes, Clinton?” He asked, his voice reeking of both ridicule and spite. “That’s a very ridiculous question to ask, Billy…” Clinton finally broke his silence, and when he realized that Billy was not ready to move out of the way, he continued with a smirk on his face. “I see that you are in the mood for some trouble, Billy…” Clinton sighed heavily, but his anger was still intact, simmering through his veins. “But I am not in the mood for this. I am just going to continue going where I was headed before you stopped me…” Clinton made a move, but Billy stopped him at once, getting on the way. “Oh! Come on! Are you still angry about what happened the other day?” The bully asked, refusing to get rid of his wry smile. “Don’t tell me that you are still upset, Clinton. Rachel was just joking, man! Don’t take it that seriously, alright?” He sounded a bit believable, but the wry smile on his face was enough to tell Clinton that he was just trying to mess with him. “We can’t be fighting because of that, Clinton. We are both men, and I am certain that we both understand the simple life rules…” Bill inched a step closer, staring at Clinton while he waited for him to say something. “What rules, Billy?” Clinton asked casually, almost unable to get rid of the curiosity that was lingering inside him. “Forget I asked…” He continued, taking a deep breath. “What do you want, Billy?” He asked with a twisted expression that showcased his impatience and annoyance. His eyes moved to the door of the main building, and seeing some of the students who were so serious about their academics trooping in, he grunted. “Tell me what you want, Billy…” He returned his gaze to Billy, staring deep into his eyes while he waited for him to give him a response. Billy was still silent, but he looked like he was about to say something that was going to trigger a reaction from Clinton. “You really want to know what I want?” He questioned, but Clinton said nothing, just staring silently.Latest Chapter

A round red sun had just risen over the horizon when the sound of bells suddenly rang out in Chang’an City. After three rounds of bell chimes, the gatekeepers in the city gradually opened the gates of each residential ward. People began appearing on the morning streets, and thin wisps of cooking smoke slowly floated into the sky.Yesterday afternoon, Xiao Ming had stayed at the Jade Water Pavilion until the palace gates were about to close, and only then did Consort Zhen reluctantly let him leave. In Chang’an City, Feng Deshui had already prepared a temporary, elegant courtyard for Xiao Ming to stay in.After seven days of tiring travel, he was already very exhausted. After returning last night, he slept straight through until now.“Your Highness, it’s time for breakfast. In a little while, you’ll probably be summoned to court.”After washing up, Lü Luo brought in breakfast. It was made by the cooks who had come with him from the prince’s residence.Because of his current status and t

In the Jade Water Pavilion, Liu li had been waiting at the door.Since the morning, Consort Zhen had asked several times, afraid of missing Prince Qi.But it was understandable. Prince Qi had been gone for three years. For a mother, nothing was more painful than that. After all, Prince Qi was now Consort Zhen’s only hope.Leaning by the door, Liu li was bored and counting flower petals. When she heard footsteps, she instinctively looked in the direction of the sound. She saw a young eunuch leading a handsome young man toward the Jade Water Pavilion. In the inner palace where the concubines lived, the only man who could freely come and go was the former emperor, other than that, only the princes could enter.Looking at this young man, Liu li was immediately surprised and happy. Although Xiao Ming’s appearance had changed a lot in the past three years, his general look was still the same. She immediately ran back excitedly, shouting, “My lady, my lady, His Highness is back! Autumn had arrived. The elm trees on both sides of Vermilion Bird Avenue shed their leaves as the breeze gently passed.Triggered by the splendor of Chang’an, Lu Fei said with envy, “When will Qingzhou ever be as prosperous as this place?”“That’s tough. Chang’an has been the capital of seven dynasties. Its prosperity is inherited,” Luo Xin replied proudly.“Nonsense! Prosperity isn’t like having children—it can’t just be passed down. Hmph, as long as His Highness is in Qingzhou, it won’t take many years before we surpass Chang’an,” Lu Fei retorted.Luo Xin curled his lip, clearly unconvinced.Xiao Ming smiled. Actually, Luo Xin had a point. The prosperity of Chang’an came from the concentration of all the nobility and powerful people of Great Yu.In modern economic terms, it was high consumption driving Chang’an’s economy and prosperity.Right now, his strategy in Qingzhou—to attract merchants—served the same purpose. While the group was traveling halfway along the route, the sudden

“Your Highness, Cui Hao holds the position of Guanglu Dafu in the court. He is responsible for advising and responding to imperial commands but does not have a fixed official duty,” said Pang Yukun.Having worked in the official circles of Chang’an, he knew Cui Hao very well.“Also, this Cui Hao comes from the Cui family and has always been close with Prince Yan. He is also a renowned Confucian scholar, highly respected in the court, and has founded the Zhengdong Academy in Chang’an where he gives lectures. Many officials in the Great Yu court have attended his lectures.”Zhan Xingchang nodded, “The reason Cui Hao became the leader of the peace faction is because of the support from many officials who studied at Zhengdong Academy. These officials follow him closely and have considerable influence in the court.”“So, you’re saying Cui Hao is forming a faction for his own benefit?” Xiao Ming asked.“Exactly. These officials, along with Cui Hao, are privately referred to as the Zhengdong

Feng Deshui surveyed the Prince Qi’s residence with a critical eye.Seven days ago, he had set out from Chang’an, enduring the fatigue of travel by boat and horseback before finally arriving in Qingzhou that morning. The news of Cangzhou’s great victory had shaken the court and the public alike, and with the arrival of the newspapers in Chang’an, the details of the battle had spread far and wide.Emperor Wenxuan, overjoyed, had hosted a grand banquet for his ministers. The very next day, Feng Deshui had been dispatched to Qingzhou to deliver the imperial edict. As a eunuch serving directly under Emperor Wenxuan, Feng Deshui’s personal journey to Qingzhou spoke volumes about the Emperor’s regard for Xiao Ming.Upon arriving at the city gates, he had presented his token and was promptly escorted to the Prince Qi’s residence by soldiers.“His Highness, Prince Qi, arrives!”Just as he was taking in the modest simplicity of the residence, a voice announced Xiao Ming’s arrival.Moments late

In the Governor’s Residence, the military officers listened quietly as Xiao Ming explained the new army structure.Compared to the Great Yu Empire’s current military hierarchy, this new system was simpler and easier to understand. With the help of the knowledge crystal’s memory enhancement, Niu Ben and the others quickly grasped the new structure—though the terminology still felt strange to them. But Qingzhou was full of new things these days. To progress, the old had to be discarded.“The military structure must change. We also need to establish a dedicated Logistics Department,” Xiao Ming continued. “Combat soldiers will focus solely on training, while logistics will handle rations, food storage, equipment procurement, battlefield medics, and other support tasks.”Niu Ben nodded, noting this down. He agreed that specialization was necessary.Beyond this, Xiao Ming also addressed military uniforms.Armor was for battle, but to distinguish soldiers from civilians, he planned to design
