Nelson ran home with every bit of strength he had, his heart pounding harder with each step.
The moment he burst through the door, he headed straight for his grandmother.
She was fine.
Nelson let out a long sigh, the tight knot in his chest finally loosening. He couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to her, not now, not ever. But as relief washed over him, another thought clawed its way in: Kyler was crossing boundaries, and sooner or later, he might come after her. Nelson had to keep her safe. And he needed to keep the douchebag in his place.
Nelson changed his clothes to take a shower. As he pulled off his shirt, something slipped from his pocket and fluttered to the floor.
It was the contact card Tony had given him.
Nelson stared at it for a long moment, his mind replaying everything that had happened. Given the way things were going, there was no more room for hesitation.
He picked up the card and made up his mind —he was going to call Tony.
Nelson stayed awake the entire night, alert to every sound and shadow, his eyes never straying far from his grandmother. If it weren’t for her, he didn’t know how he would have survived all these years. She wasn’t even his mother, yet she had given him more love and care than anyone else ever had.
Gratitude swelled in his chest, mingling with a fierce determination —no matter what happened, he would protect her.
The next morning, Nelson dragged himself to school, his mind still heavy from the sleepless night. Between classes, he caught sight of Rachel. For a moment, he almost walked up to her, almost told her everything about who Kyler really was, the kind of things he was capable of. But the words wouldn’t come. He wasn’t sure if it was fear, pride, or the look in her eyes that stopped him.
Instead, he just passed her by, pretending nothing was wrong, while inside he was boiling with the truth he couldn’t share. Besides, she was no longer his thing to worry about. She had left him and he had no need to protect her from any harm. Ever again!
Throughout the class, Nelson tried to focus on the lesson, but his mind kept drifting. Every now and then, he could feel Kyler's eyes watching from across the room with that smug, knowing grin. The teacher’s voice became a distant hum as Nelson’s thoughts ran in circles about how to protect his grandmother and what Kyler might try next.
When the bell rang, Nelson packed his books slowly, hoping to slip out before anything happened. But as soon as he stepped into the hallway, Kyler and his group were waiting for him. Kyler stepped forward, blocking his path, while the others fanned out behind him like a wall.
“So… how was your little adventure last night?” Kyler asked, his tone dripping with mockery.
Nelson stopped in his tracks, eyes narrowing. “Hold up. So you guys were only intent on putting fear in me?”
Kyler chuckled, low and cruel. “Oh yes, boy. Yes. You’re smarter than you look. I bet you ran all the way home, your heart pounding, thinking poor granny was already six feet under.” His grin widened. “Tell me… was she choking when you found her? Did she look like she was about to die? Did you cry?”
Nelson’s jaw tightened. His fists clenched at his sides, nails digging into his palms.
Kyler leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper only Nelson could hear. “Don’t worry. We’re not ready to kill your granny. Not yet. As long as you remember one thing…” He straightened, his face twisting with malice. “You don’t belong here. Not in this school. Not in this city. And if you keep acting like you do… she’ll pay the price.”
The boys behind him laughed, their voices echoing down the hallway like a pack of hyenas. Students nearby pretended not to see, slipping past quickly, afraid to get caught in the crossfire.
Nelson’s heart burned with rage, but he forced himself to stand still. His grandmother’s face flashed in his mind —weak, tired, depending on him. He couldn’t risk it. Not now.
So he stayed silent.
Kyler smirked at the lack of response. “Good boy. You’re learning.” He tapped Nelson’s chest with a finger, just enough to humiliate. “Stay in your lane, orphan. Or else.”
His friends laughed under their breath, clearly enjoying the show. Nelson clenched his jaw but didn’t say a word. Instead, he shifted his bag on his shoulder, stepped past Kyler without looking back, and walked straight out of the school.
He didn’t go home immediately. His legs carried him down the long road past the small shops and narrow streets of his neighborhood. The noise of the school faded into the distance, replaced by the hum of traffic. Nelson’s mind was turning fast, each step pulling him deeper into thought.
By the time he reached the edge of the park near his block, he had already made up his mind. This wasn’t something he could handle alone anymore. He crossed the park, heading for a quiet bench hidden behind a row of overgrown bushes, a place where no one from the area usually came.
Sitting down, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the contact card Tony had given him. He stared at it for a long moment, his thumb tracing the printed letters, before finally dialing the number.
When Tony answered, he spoke with excitement. “Young master, we have been expecting your call.”
Nelson’s voice was low but steady. “I need you to come to my house. I’ll send you the address.”
Nelson texted him the location.
By the time Nelson got home, the sun was starting to dip low, casting long shadows over the street. His grandmother was in the kitchen humming. Nelson stayed near the window, scanning the road every few minutes.
It was almost sunset when a sleek black Mercedes-AMG ONE pulled slowly up the street, its tinted windows catching the dying light. The vehicle stopped right in front of the house. The driver’s door opened, and Tony stepped out dressed in a fitted black jacket, his expression unreadable.
He walked up to Nelson with a calm, deliberate pace, his eyes briefly sweeping the surroundings before focusing on him and then he prostrated himself.
“Young master, you said it was urgent. Is everything okay?”
Nelson swallowed, glancing toward the house to make sure his grandmother couldn’t hear. “It’s okay… can we please talk in the car?”
They had barely begun when a sharp, hacking cough shattered the moment. Nelson’s blood ran cold. Tony followed quickly.
Nelson was already kneeling beside his grandmother, rubbing her back gently as she struggled to catch her breath. “It’s okay, Grandma… I’m here. Breathe,” he said, trying to mask the worry in his voice.
Tony stood a few feet away, watching quietly, his sharp eyes taking in everything —the worn furniture, the faint smell of medicine in the air, the way Nelson’s hands trembled slightly as he held her.
As Tony noticed the poor old lady, he quickly rushed outside and returned back with the men he came with. They quickly rushed down to grandmother and lifted her up.
Nelson shouted, “Where are you taking her to?”
In reply, Tony told him gently, “Young Master, I am terribly sorry, I was not aware that your grandmother was still alive and is sick. She needs medical attention immediately. We would be taking her to the home hospital in your estate for immediate attention. I will call Mr. Court right away to attend to her.
Mr. Court. The name hit Nelson like a blow. Mr. Court —the most powerful doctor in the entire city. A man even billionaires waited weeks to see.
He really needed to understand what was going on, just how rich he was and what the backstory behind all of this was. And so, he finally said it. “I’m coming with you. Take me to your grandmaster.”
“As you wish, Young Master,” Tony said.

CHAPTER 30 : Just A Little While And They Will Pay

CHAPTER 29 : Bloody Night
Nelson’s head was pounding like a damn drum. Every sound in that room echoed deep inside his skull. The rusty chains on his wrists rattled each time he tried to move, cutting into his skin. Kyler’s laughter still echoed in his ears. That bastard had finally shown his true colors, and Nelson was done pretending. He wasn’t scared anymore. He just wanted blood—Kyler’s and his uncle’s. They thought they’d won, but Nelson still had fire left in him. He was going to break free, even if it killed him. Beep. Beep. Beep. A small red light blinked faintly on Nelson’s shirt. “Nelson… what’s that blinking on your cloth?” Jane asked weakly. Nelson looked down and froze. “Shit,” he muttered under his breath. It was a tracker. Miguel and Robby must’ve planted it on him. “Damn it,” Nelson hissed. “I told those idiots not to. They’

Nelson pulled up at the block alone, the cold night air biting against his skin. He knew damn well it was a setup—Kyler and his fucking uncle were behind this shit—but he didn’t care. Jane’s face was all over his head, her voice echoing in his mind, and he was ready to burn the whole damn city if that’s what it took to get her back. The street was quiet, too quiet, the kind that made your gut twist. He tightened his fist, looked around once more, then dialed the number. After the beep and two, Nelson saw a figure slide out from the shadows — a man in a black hood, movement like a cat. He couldn’t make out the face, just the shape. The man came up on him slow, hands empty but dangerous. Nelson’s hand tightened on the bag of cash as the guy reached for it. “Hey —” the guy tried, voice low. He lunged for the bag. Nelson didn’t hesitate. Years on the streets had taught him to move quick. He shifted his weight, used a little technique Miguel showed him a long time ago, and shoved the
