Chapter 1: The Weight Of Shame
The bleach smell still clung to Nelson’s hands. No matter how hard he scrubbed, no matter how much soap he used, the stink of last night’s janitor shift seemed tattooed into his skin. He slid into class quietly, praying no one noticed.
“Nelson Cassius,” the teacher’s voice cracked across the room, “late again. What happened this time? Lost your mop?”
A ripple of laughter burst through the class. Someone mimed scrubbing the floor. Another coughed out, “Janitor boy!” The noise rolled over him like waves, and Nelson’s cheeks burned. He dropped his gaze, clutching his bag tighter.
He spotted an empty seat. Finally. He started moving toward it —only for a hand to slam down on the desk.
“Don’t even think about it. That’s taken.” The boy sneered, eyes daring Nelson to argue.
Nelson froze, his throat tight. He turned, searching again, when a soft voice called from the corner.
“Psst… Nelson. Sit here.”
Jane. Kind-eyed, always a little too nice for her own good. He managed a small smile and sank into the seat, whispering, “Thanks.”
For forty minutes, he endured whispers and giggles, each one digging into his skin. When the bell rang, the teacher dismissed them with a wave. As students rushed out, the announcement system crackled.
“Attention students —reminder, carnival party this Saturday! It’s gonna be fun. Don’t miss it!”
Cheers filled the room. Nelson just packed his books silently. A carnival? With what money? He barely scraped by. Still, he thought of Rachael, his girlfriend. Maybe she’d want to go. Maybe, if he saved a week’s pay, he could buy her ticket. She was the one reason he kept going.
Because yes, the teacher had been right. He had spent the night scrubbing toilets. Then the bakery. Then back to his tiny room to collapse for two hours before dragging himself here. He worked two jobs just to afford basic food, clothes —and whatever Rachael needed. Tuition was covered by scholarship, thank God. Everything else? His back paid for it.
He was halfway down the hall when the familiar mocking tone froze him.
“Hey, janitor boy.”
Nelson’s body went stiff. Kyler Park. The name was enough to sour anyone’s stomach. Kyler, son of Mr. Park —CEO of Catelux Corporation. Richest kid in the school. Richest family in the city. Girls trailed after him. Boys either worshiped him or feared him. He never faced consequences; Daddy’s lawyers saw to that.
Nelson turned, hoping to just keep walking. “Not today,” he muttered.
“Oh, it’s today.” Kyler’s grin widened. Two of his friends flanked him like bodyguards. “We’re trying to be nice. Help you out. Take you from the trash.”
Nelson clamped his jaw. “Don’t answer. Don’t give them reason. Just walk.” he whispered to himself.
But Kyler shoved him hard. His books scattered. The hallway tilted, but Nelson caught himself, refusing to fall. Laughter erupted.
“What’s the matter, janitor boy? You deaf?”
The second shove was worse. Then the punch to his jaw snapped his head sideways. Pain exploded, bright and hot. For a heartbeat, Nelson swore he’d swing back. He was strong —he knew he could floor Kyler and his crew if he wanted. But then he pictured his grandmother’s face, lined with years of struggle. If she heard her grandson was now a violent kid? It would break her.
So he straightened, his eyes burning, fists trembling but at his side. He looked Kyler dead in the eye. Silent.
Suddenly, like a godsent, Mr. Ham, the computing lecturer, turned the corner. “Everything alright here?”
Kyler’s grin returned, sharp as glass. “Of course, Mr. Ham. Isn’t that right, Nelson?”
Nelson’s throat closed. He forced the words out. “Y… yes, sir.”
Mr. Ham nodded and walked off. Kyler leaned close, whispering, “Lucky. This time.”
They strolled away, leaving Nelson’s insides twisting.
Miguel and Robby, his only real friends, caught up with him moments later. Robby frowned. “Man, you look like a depressed owl. They did it again?”
Nelson didn’t answer. He just pressed his tongue to his split lip, tasting blood. But Miguel’s fists clenched. “Let’s find those assholes. Make them regret it.”
“No.” Nelson’s voice was quiet, but firm. “It’ll be us who get blamed. Always is. You don’t want to start a war you cannot fight.”
He shoved his books into his bag. “I just need to find Rachael. She hasn’t answered all day.”
They trailed him toward the science building. Rachael’s friends were there —Tory, the venomous one, and Samantha, who at least had some conscience.
“Tory. Samantha. You guys seen Rachael?” Nelson asked, trying to sound casual. “She hasn’t responded to my texts all day.”
Tory’s laugh was sharp. “Our friend doesn’t want trash like you anymore. Stop infecting her with your poor disease.”
Nelson flinched, but kept his eyes on Samantha. “Please. Just tell me.”
Samantha hesitated, then sighed. “She’s in the science lab. But… she’s busy. Having fun. Don’t ruin it.”
Fun? Nelson blinked. She had told him she was swamped with her project. He’d even given her money for it —money that cost him three nights of no sleep. So what fun was she having? Was she having ‘fun’ with the project?
He left the girls and went after her. “Stay here” he motioned to his friends. But they wouldn’t bulge.
As soon as Nelson got to the door of the laboratory, he grabbed the doorknob to open the door. But he paused a bit. He did not hear sounds of students working on anything. No sounds of lab equipments like beakers or metals or boiling liquids. No. All he heard was faint laughter and soft moaning coming from what sounded like just two individuals. Not more.
Curious, he twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open. Nelson's world froze as he stepped into the lab. He watched in horror as he saw what seemed to be a knife to his throat.
He felt like he'd been punched in the gut 200 times and more. His breath caught in his throat. There she was… his girlfriend… Rachael, sitting on a table, half-naked, moaning like she was in heaven. And just in front of her was….
Kyler. Kyler Park. They were kissing? No, having sex?
“Rachel? What fuck?!!” He suddenly screamed.

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 9: Mr. Zeus
“Sir, the young master has returned,” Tony announced with excitement. The old man slowly turned toward the doorway, his eyes narrowing as if trying to focus. But he could barely make out Nelson’s figure. All he saw clearly at first was Tony and the driver.“Quickly… my glasses,” he said.As soon as the glasses were placed in his hand, the old man put them on, then stood up without hesitation. He walked straight to Nelson, his gaze searching. His hand reached out, resting briefly on Nelson’s waist, a habit born of memory. He remembered the boy’s old fracture from years ago. Then, after a few seconds of staring, the old man did something that caught Nelson completely off guard. He stepped forward and pulled Nelson into a firm embrace.“He is really my grandson,” the old man said with emotion in his voice. He gestured for Nelson to sit beside him, but Nelson just stood there, confused, his mind racing.Nelson dropped to his knees and said, “Sir… I’m not sure I’m the one you’re looking fo

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 8: Where The Light Touches
As the car rolled on, Nelson felt his chest tighten like someone was piling bricks on him one by one. He tried to lean back, hoping the soft leather seat would ease him, but it didn’t. His head was pounding. He began to recall all the sadistic memories stored in his brain; kids laughing at his lunch-box when he was much younger, him being bullied for being an orphan, Rachel walking away and publicly breaking up with him like he was nothing. The whispers after that day in class when he had been made a fool. The cold stink of the cell he was locked in for a crime he did not commit, the silence that made him wonder if life had already ended for him.And now —this?A ride in a car that looked like it had rolled straight out of a dream he had no business having. The driver, with his clean suit and glassy eyes, had greeted him with “Welcome, young master,” and Nelson almost burst out laughing. Him? Young master? He’d been called worse —“orphan” was practically a title —but “master”? No, it

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 7: "Take Me To Grandmaster"
Nelson ran home with every bit of strength he had, his heart pounding harder with each step. The moment he burst through the door, he headed straight for his grandmother. She was fine.Nelson let out a long sigh, the tight knot in his chest finally loosening. He couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to her, not now, not ever. But as relief washed over him, another thought clawed its way in: Kyler was crossing boundaries, and sooner or later, he might come after her. Nelson had to keep her safe. And he needed to keep the douchebag in his place. Nelson changed his clothes to take a shower. As he pulled off his shirt, something slipped from his pocket and fluttered to the floor. It was the contact card Tony had given him.Nelson stared at it for a long moment, his mind replaying everything that had happened. Given the way things were going, there was no more room for hesitation. He picked up the card and made up his mind —he was going to call Tony.Nelson stayed awake the enti

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 6: Shock Absorber!
Nelson slid into his seat at the back of the room, dropping his bag onto the desk with a calmness that felt like a slap across Kyler’s face. That calm was worse than any insult. Worse than any fight. It was the calm of someone who no longer cared what Kyler thought. And that terrified Kyler more than he would ever admit.Soon, the lecturer slid into the class, and the first person to speak wasn’t Nelson—it was Kyler. He shot up from his chair like a coiled spring.“Sir,” Kyler barked, “I don’t really know how this guy even got into this college. How does he afford the fees? He’s a loser —a brokie! He could tarnish the name of this school. He shouldn’t even be here, not after what he did!”The class gasped. Heads turned. All eyes locked on Nelson.Mr. Smith adjusted his glasses and looked between the two boys. “That’s a heavy accusation, Kyler. Sit down.”But Kyler didn’t. He kept standing, fists clenched, jaw tight.“Mr. Cassius,” the lecturer finally turned, firing a few tough, rapi

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 5: The Return
“What? Isn’t that the guy who got into that fight?”“Wait… is that Nelson?”“How did he even get out of prison?”“Look at him… the poor kid.”The whispers crawled through the school yard like snakes in the grass.Nelson had barely stepped through the school gate when all eyes turned on him. Students paused mid-step. Some standing in clusters, others pretending to check their phones, all slowed down to stare. Whispers rose, then fell, like a wave following him as he walked. Some laughed under their breath. Others whispered with curiosity, like they were watching some kind of walking scandal. A few just stared at him with eyes that said one thing: You don’t belong here anymore.Nelson didn’t raise his head. Hands stuffed in his pockets, shoulders tense, he walked straight like the stoic Alpha male he was. But his heart was heavy. Everything had changed.Just days ago, he was invisible. A nobody. Another poor kid drifting through the halls. Now, he was a headline. A rumor. A target. But

The Rise Of The Orphan Billionare Chapter 4: A New Life
“I am not getting in that car,” Nelson snapped, his voice raw with suspicion. His fists tightened at his side. “Maybe you guys are just kidnappers. But let me save you the trouble —I have nothing to offer. I’m just a poor boy living with an old woman who I call my grandmother. She’s sick, and the only person I’ve got in this world. If you think I’m worth ransoming, you’re wasting your time.”The man in the navy blue suit —sharp-eyed, calm as stone— did not flinch. Instead, he slipped a hand into his coat and drew out a sleek black card and a silver-edged business card. Both glinted under the dim streetlights.“If you insist, Young Master…” the man’s voice was steady, respectful, almost rehearsed. He placed both cards into Nelson’s palm, pressing them down gently as though delivering something sacred. “Here’s my card. And this—” he tapped the black one “—contains thirty billion dollars. Thirty. Billion.”Nelson blinked. His breath caught. He almost laughed in disbelief, thinking it was
