“You should’ve stayed out of it,” Sean said, eyes cold now. “You could’ve claimed you didn’t know me. Could’ve walked away free. But you didn’t. You got involved in something that wasn’t your business, and now you’re blaming me because it nearly cost you everything.”

Rosalind opened her mouth to speak, but the words got stuck in her throat. The fire behind her fury began to tremble—then turn cold.

Sean didn’t look away.

He didn’t soften.

He didn’t flinch.

He just stood there—quiet and cruel—as if her pain, her sacrifice, and everything she had risked meant absolutely nothing to him.

And the silence between them? It was louder than any scream.

The room had gone deathly quiet after Sean’s words, the chill in his tone sinking into everyone’s skin like ice. Rosalind didn’t respond, her throat too tight, her hands trembling where they clutched the blanket. But Chloe didn’t hold back.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” she exploded, stepping in front of Rosalind. “Do you even hear yourself?

Rosalind froze. Her cheeks burned as the truth sank in. From the very beginning, she had never believed she’d be the one to secure the partnership, no matter how much effort she poured into it.Her lips trembled, but no words came. She had doubted herself. She had let Nate’s empty boasting sway her.Like her siblings, she had assumed he’d contacted his father to recommend them. But clearly, that wasn’t true.Abrill’s eyes lingered on Rosalind, cold and sharp, as though waiting for her to finally think for herself.Rosalind straightened her shoulders, forcing her voice steady.“I’m truly disappointed,” Abrill said, her tone like a blade. “You’re not nearly as smart as I thought.”The words cut deep. Shame seared Rosalind, but she bowed her head. “You’re right, Ms. Vesper. I made a mistake in believing this partnership came through someone else’s effort. Please forgive me.”Abrill arched her brow, studying her. The truth was, the only reason she’d noticed Rosalind’s résumé at all was be

Nate shook his head frantically, his mouth opening to deny it, but before he could force a word out, Jullian jumped in, eager to protect himself by using Nate as a shield.“That’s right! He was the one who convinced his father to use the Stroud connection for this deal,” Jullian said quickly, his voice loud enough for half the room to hear.“If it weren’t for Nate, we wouldn’t even have secured the partnership in the first place. He’s the one who got us here,” Lillian immediately added. The words echoed through the hall, sealing Nate’s fate.Nate froze, his blood running cold. ‘These idiots…!’ he screamed inwardly. His hands curled into fists at his sides, and his stomach dropped like a stone. Every instinct told him to deny it, to run, to disappear. But it was too late. The siblings had already tied his name to the very deal hanging in the balance.Abrill tilted her head slightly, her lips curving upward, not in amusement this time, but in something far sharper, colder. Her eyes glit

Hearing that, Chloe immediately flinched. She had thought she was well known in the industry, and the comment made her feel exposed, as if she hadn’t been recognized as Rosalind’s assistant.“Not really,” Chloe replied quickly. “I apologize if my words came off that way, but that’s not what I meant.”“Exactly,” Abrill said. “If you can apologize, they can too.”A heavy silence settled over the hall, suffocating everyone. Abrill’s calm, steady gaze swept over the Springfields before she spoke again, this time colder, sharper.“But if you’re not ready to apologize,” Abrill said, her voice cutting through the air like a blade, “then get out of the way. I have no reason to linger here.”Her words struck like a gavel. Everyone stiffened. If she walked out, the Springfield name would not only lose the partnership but also be publicly humiliated in front of the city’s elite.Rosalind’s stomach churned. She could almost hear the ticking of the clock in her ears. Her eyes darted to her family

Murmurs erupted the moment Rosalind spoke. At first, everyone thought she would simply stand there in silence and let Ms. Vesper leave. But against all expectations, Rosalind managed to speak up.Abrill paused, tilting her head slightly as she regarded Rosalind. Her sharp, inquisitive gaze lingered on the determined set of Rosalind’s jaw and the fire in her eyes.A flicker of curiosity crossed Abrill’s face. She wondered just how far she could push this young woman.“You didn’t know, did you?” Abrill asked, her tone calm but tinged with teasing curiosity.Rosalind’s throat tightened. She hesitated, then shook her head. “No… I didn’t.”Abrill’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Then why don’t you take a guess?” she suggested, her voice smooth, challenging.Rosalind’s eyes narrowed slightly as she fought to keep her composure.“This is a professional setting,” she said carefully. “I wouldn’t want to make guesses here. It wouldn’t be appropriate.”“Professional?” Abrill’s voice hardened,
