Sean paused, his gaze shifting to Nate, who had just spoken. He couldn’t understand why the man had chosen that exact moment to speak right as Sean was about to leave. From what he could tell, Nate had plenty of time to talk during dinner but had chosen to wait until the end, like he’d been planning it.

“You wouldn’t want to leave before I make my announcement, would you, Sean?” Nate asked.

At that, all eyes in the room turned toward Sean. Feeling their gaze on him, he let out a quiet sigh and slowly sat back down.

Nate cleared his throat and began. “As you know, the company my family owns—Rowe & Co. Parfumerie—”

“Yes?” Julian cut in, his curiosity piqued. “Is there a big event happening at the company?”

Sean’s brows lifted. All the times he’d heard Nate talk about his company, Nate had never started off like that. It felt... off. Suspicious. But Sean didn’t say anything. He just waited.

“Any message from the Strouds yet?” Rosalind asked, her tone calm as she glanced at Chloe.Despite the worry simmering under her composed exterior, she was far less tense now. Since receiving word that the Strouds were on their way, she could only hope they arrived sooner. The end of the event depended on their arrival, and Rosalind was eager for it to wrap up. She’d had enough of dodging endless questions from guests.“There isn’t,” Chloe replied with a shake of her head. “All we can do is wait for them to show up.”Rosalind nodded, then let her gaze sweep across the crowded room. After a few seconds, her eyes landed on Sean, who was standing by a corner table, a plate of dessert in hand, eating without a care in the world.“Did he just come here to eat?” Chloe asked after following Rosalind’s gaze. “The Stroud representative isn’t here yet—why don’t we just kick him out?”“Let him be,” Rosalind said, looking away from Sean and back toward the entrance.‘He must not have been eating

Hearing that, Macy shook her head repeatedly. She had been minding her own business, but the others had chosen to talk about Sean like that, making her believe he was the loser they claimed he was.And now that she had decided to teach him a lesson and made a mistake, they were all acting as if they had nothing to do with it.She glanced back at the others. Not only were they silent, but none of them tried to help her.Her teeth clenched. If they wanted to ignore her, she would drag them down with her.“I wasn’t the only one who did something to him!” she said sharply, snapping her head back to Abrill. “Right after you left, they all ganged up on him. They refused to attend to him, mocking him for being a man who uses you to get what he wants!”At once, the others began to panic. If Macy exposed them, they would be in trouble with Abrill too.“Don’t listen to her, Ms. Stroud,” one of them blurted out. “She’s just making up stories to get away with what she did.”Abrill’s gaze turned to

I… it wasn’t on purpose,” she said, her voice barely audible.Abrill’s glare didn’t waver. “So you did throw the tea. At Mr. Sean.”It wasn’t a question anymore. It was a statement, a cold, sharp confirmation wrapped in fury. The tone made Macy’s stomach twist.“I didn’t…” Macy tried to deny it quickly.Sean’s brows arched as she lied again, right to Abrill’s face. It was as if she thought he wouldn’t speak up. Or worse, like she was mocking him. But Abrill wasn’t buying it.She gestured to the mug still in Macy’s hand. “Oh, really?” she said, voice thick with disbelief. “You say that, but you’re still holding the mug.”Macy flinched as though struck. Her hand jerked, and the mug slipped from her grip, crashing to the floor. A sharp crack followed, one piece skittering away from the rest. Her fists clenched. She forced

Abrill said nothing. She just stared at Macy, her expression serious. She still couldn’t understand why they had done all of that to Sean when he had clearly done nothing to them. Now that Sean had left her to deal with Macy, she wasn’t going to let her off so easily.“Since I’m the one handling this, you should pay the amount the shirt is worth, Macy,” Abrill said.Upon hearing that, Macy shook her head repeatedly. Macy’s lips parted, but no words came out. If she’d been able to afford the shirt, maybe things would have turned out differently. But now, with no way to pay and Abrill standing there, she couldn’t even think of a proper response to the question she’d just been asked.Abrill took a single step forward, her heels clicking sharply against the floor like gunshots.“I asked you a question.”Macy blinked rapidly, suddenly feeling like a child caught red-handed.
