Chapter 6: Daniel Visits Carter Hospital

Chapter 6

Meanwhile, Daniel, after entering his apartment, went straight to the bathroom and washed himself up. He wore a blue T-shirt and black trousers alongside black sneakers that he had purchased not long ago.

He had already made up his mind to visit somewhere.

“Since the Cartel Hospital is the closest to me and I own a huge share in the Cartel conglomerate, maybe I should visit it to have a look at everything.”

Muttering that, Daniel walked out of his apartment, locked his door, and made his way out of the alley to get a cab.

Daniel finally arrived at the hospital.

WELCOME TO CARTEL HOSPITAL.

Those words were boldly written at the entrance.

He paid the driver off before stepping into the hospital’s main compound.

His eyes widened as he looked around the tall, glassy building in front of him. “This is amazing!” He mumbled wide-eyed, then wondered how other companies under Carter would be.

“So, I really co-own this?" He shook his head. Snapping out of his dazed moment, he then said, "Let me take a look around since I own half of the conglomerate.” With that, Daniel turned back and began walking around the hospital building, admiring its architecture.

Meanwhile, in a sophisticated office, there was unusual tranquility until a lady in a professional dress handed a document to a man seated in a swivel chair, and the man opened it and read it.

“What!” The man shouted in astonishment, and his eyes widened in disbelief. “Someone owns 50% of the shares in Cartel Conglomerate, not just a corporation?”

This man was the manager, named Jones Peter, and the woman in front of him was his secretary, who went by the name Jennifer George.

“Yes, Sir!” Jennifer nodded. “His name is Daniel Cowell.”

“Daniel Cowell?” Peter raised a surprised eyebrow. He was familiar with influential names in town, but this one, he had not heard of it.

“Aside from his name, what else do you know about him?” He asked.

“Not much, Sir. Just a few.”

“Go on.”

Peter was eager to know.

Jennifer tilted her head and carried on. “He was betrayed by his girlfriend. And he’s living in a slum area. His apartment is precisely in the alley.”

“What! He’s living in a slum area, and he owns 50% shares in our whole conglomerate? Who does that?” Peter appeared angry when he heard that. Anyone would be.

"I don't know why he chose that.”

Just then, Jennifer's eyes widened. "What?” She shouted.

Peter raised an eyebrow in surprise as he looked at her. "What happened?”

"You can't believe this, Sir. Mr Daniel is currently within the hospital premises as we speak. The information just reached me now.”

Peter bolted up from his seat, “Then what are we still waiting for? Let's go and meet him right away!"

Both the secretary and manager stormed out of the office as they embarked to fetch this shareholder.

Meanwhile, Daniel was already in a heated argument with a security guard. The security guard, after seeing how Daniel was walking around the place, looking at the hospital, became suspicious and approached Daniel with a furious expression and ordered him to vacate the vicinity, but the latter blatantly refused despite several warnings from the security guard.

The security guard’s blood boiled. “I’m warning you for the last time. Stop saying nonsense and leave! Now!”

“Why should I?” Daniel asked with a calm expression. “I own 50% of the shares in Cartel Conglomerate, and I have every right to walk around the place. So, stop interrupting me and show some respect, okay?” Daniel continued saying the same thing over and over again.

The security guard scoffed, his expression filled with disgust as he looked at Daniel from head to toe. “50% shares in Cartel Conglomerate? Do you have any idea what you are talking about? I mean, have a proper look at yourself in the mirror.”

Daniel chuckled lightly. “Watch your mouth if you don’t want to lose your job.”

“Lose my job?” The security guard laughed, amused by Daniel’s words. However, before he could utter another word, two figures rushed into the scene.

The security guard recognized them and bowed his head. To him, the manager and the secretary had heard about this scene and were here to throw this young man out.

However, to his amazement, Peter stepped forward. “Are you Mr. Daniel?"

"Yes, any problems?”

Immediately after Daniel gave his response, Peter bowed his head in maximum respect.

“Good afternoon, Sir.” The tone of his voice instantly changed, which surprised the security guard even more. Peter then raised his head and began. “I’m Jones Peter, the manager of Cartel Conglomerate, and she is George Jennifer, my secretary.”

He introduced himself first, then the young woman by his side.

The security guard was stunned.

Peter was not done. “According to our records, we found out that you are a magnificent shareholder, holding 50% of the shares in our conglomerate, and since you came around, we thought it’d be nice to see you in person, Sir.”

His voice was laced with respect.

Right after Peter finished his statement, the security guard felt his body vibrating with fear. “Ple…..please, Sir, I was wrong,” he admitted with shaky lips, “please forgive me, don’t fire me, please.”

Daniel simply ignored him and answered Peter. “I just came around to see how things are going.”

“Oh, that's good. It's an honor to have you, Sir!”

Although Peter was the manager of this conglomerate, he did not have the number of shares that this young man in front of him had; his was just 5%. So, he knew what was best: to show this man the maximum respect he deserved.

Daniel nodded. “And yes, nobody should know about this. About me owning fifty percent shares in your conglomerate.” Daniel instructed strictly, and he was obeyed immediately.

Then, he inquired about how things were going, and Peter immediately gave a detailed explanation while taking him around the place. The security guard was totally forgotten, and he felt ashamed of himself.

Finally, Daniel halted in his tracks and checked the time. “I'll leave now. I might visit some other time."

Peter didn't question him. However, he said thoughtfully. "Sir, if you don't mind, we'll have some of our security guards escort you to your house.”

Daniel rejected his kind gesture with a smile. “Don't worry, I'll find my way home." With that, he turned and walked out of the hospital without another word.
