Macul cleared his throat gently, his tone still warm with excitement. “Young Master Vincent, I believe it’s time you come with me to Maxine Corps. You need to be properly introduced to the board and the major employees. They deserve to meet their true CEO.”

Vincent nodded slowly, his mind still reeling. “I will. But… I want to see my sister first.”

A light smile curved Macul’s lips. “I had no doubts you’d say that. You two were so fond of each other. I believe when she sees you—when she feels your presence—it will spark something within her. A miracle might happen.”

Vincent’s heart clenched. Just the thought of having a sister lying in a hospital bed, in a coma, sent a wave of protectiveness through him. “Then I’ll see her soon.”

“Of course.” Macul reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a golden card. It shimmered beneath the suite's crystal chandelier. “In the meantime, please accept this. It’s the access card to this entire suite. You can stay here comfortably until I arrange the best mansion for you to move into.”

Vincent took the card, his fingers trembling slightly. He stared at it, feeling like he had just stepped into someone else’s life. The No.1 VIP suite of the best hotel in the city… It was surreal.

“Alright then,” he murmured, overwhelmed.

He glanced around the luxury space—gold finishes, rich velvet drapes, and a panoramic view of the entire skyline.

As his gaze lingered, his thoughts drifted to his adopted mother. She had taken him in when no one else would. She’d fed him, clothed him, worked day and night for his school fees.

“Mama would cry if she saw this…” he thought. She’d always wished better for him. And now? He could finally give her peace. No more juggling part-time jobs and studying late into the night. No more worry about unpaid bills. He would pay every debt they owed.

“I need to see someone, Mr. Forbes,” he said, tucking the card into his pocket. “Let’s meet later.”

Macul blinked. “Shall I have the driver take you?”

Vincent shook his head. “No, I don’t need a chauffeur. I’ll go myself. I’ll be back soon.”

Macul nodded respectfully. “As you wish, Young Master.”

But as Vincent stepped out of the hotel’s grand entrance, his phone rang. He frowned and answered.

A nurse’s sharp voice blasted through the speaker.

“Vincent, your mother’s about to be discharged—forced out! We’ve waited long enough for payment!”

His stomach dropped. “No, wait—!”

Click.

The call ended.

Fury boiled inside him. Without wasting a second, he dashed to the hospital.

Minutes later, he burst through the hospital hallway. His eyes fell on her instantly.

His mother—Alva—was seated on a rickety, rusted wheelchair, pushed just outside the room she had occupied for weeks. Her skin was pale, her cheeks sunken, her body thin like fragile glass. Yet, her eyes lifted slowly, and a weak smile formed.

“V-Vincent…?” she whispered.

He hurried to her, just as the nurse from the call stepped out behind her.

“You need to leave with her now,” the nurse said sharply. “Her bills are overdue. It’s not a charity center!”

Vincent turned to her, his jaw clenched. “Is this how you treat sick people? She’s not even fully recovered!”

The nurse scoffed. “Then maybe you should’ve paid earlier. If you were so poor, why have us admit her?”

Before Vincent could reply, the sound of clapping echoed in the hallway.

He turned and his heart sank.

Billy Corners.

That smug smile of his was unmistakable. Dressed in a designer suit, Billy approached like a hunter savoring his prey.

The nurse walked up to him, and he handed her an envelope.

“Good job,” Billy said, smirking.

Vincent’s stomach twisted. So this was the reason for the sudden cruelty. Billy has bought her.

“I heard your mother was in this hospital,” Billy said, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Thought I’d come pay my respects.”

“How dare you?” Vincent snapped.

Billy’s eyes gleamed. “You mean how dare I show up to watch your pathetic little world crumble? You left that restaurant, refusing to apologize for your mistake and it hurt me. I’ve waited to watch you break.”

Vincent glared at him, fury rising in his veins.

Billy chuckled. “Come on, don’t look at me like that. You’re poor. Just admit it. Get down on your knees and say you’re a broke, insignificant fool. Maybe I’ll be generous enough to pay the bills for your poor mother.”

Vincent stepped forward, fists tightening at his side. But a soft hand caught his. Alva.

Her weak fingers gripped his gently, silently pleading.

‘Don’t cause trouble,’ her eyes seemed to say.

He gave her a gentle nod and carefully placed her hand back on her lap.

Then he walked toward Billy.

“You know what you truly deserve?” Vincent asked, voice calm and low.

Billy’s grin widened. “A good apology from a—”

SMACK.

The sound of Vincent’s fist connecting with Billy’s face rang out like a gunshot. Billy staggered back, his smug expression now wiped clean by shock.

Even the nurse gasped.

Vincent turned to her. “How much is the bill?”

“T-Ten thousand dollars…”

Vincent pulled out his phone. “I’m transferring the money to the hospital’s account. Right now.”
