Brian stood in front of the tall building, both regret and annoyance simmering inside him.
The company had been renamed from SilverLine Tech to Greenfield Co after he sold it in a desperate attempt to please his ex-wife. “All for nothing…” He muttered in despair, a heavy sigh escaping his lungs. Then he began to march toward the entrance, each step feeling heavier than the last. For some reason, the guards at the casement door didn’t stop him, probably because he was dressed differently- like a businessman or important personnel. They didn’t even recognize him, not even a glimpse of who he was. Brian continued moving slowly until he arrived at the reception. The young lady seated in front of the large screen was blowing hard on ballooned gum, biting hard even when she had sucked all the juice. Her fingers were clicking hard on the keyboard, but she had to stop when she saw Brian approaching. “Hello, Sir!” She said with a smile, her eyes flashing with pure admiration. They swiftly moved from Brian’s sleek hair, down to his chest, and even to his shiny leather shoes. He looked charming, the kind of man that she definitely dreamt of with fantasy. “Welcome to Greenfield Co. How may I help you, Sir?” She sounded like she was willing to die for Brian, lifting her right hand from the keyboard. Brian cleared his throat, returning the pleasant gesture the receptionist had given to him. “Hello, Miss. I am here to see the CEO of this company.” “Please…” The lady waved his first words off, still holding onto her smile. “Call me Winnie, Sir. It’s not every day that I get to see good-looking and rich men here in this company.” Brian chuckled softly, pretending not to have seen the advances the lady was making with her eyes. “Winnie…” He indulged, causing the lady to blush. “That definitely sounds better, Sir. I love the way you call my name- Winnie!” She giggled, covering her mouth while she looked around. Sighting a few workers who were moving around with their busy schedules, she got a grip on herself, adjusting her blue jacket. But her cleavage was still showing, and she had no intention of covering up. “You said you are here to see my boss?” “Yes…” Brian nodded, pushing two steps forward. “Is he on seat?” He asked politely, and Winne nodded. “Certainly, Sir…” Winnie nodded, returning her fingers to the keyboard. But she typed nothing, returning her eyes to Brian. She almost winked at him, her long brows inviting him to flirt with her. “Do you have an appointment with Mr. Benson?” “No. Not at all.” Brian took a deep breath, his countenance slowly shifting plain. “But I was hoping that I could get a chance to meet him. It is really important.” He stressed, almost begging with his eyes. Winnie was silent for a few seconds, but her mind was occupied. Then she sighed heavily, nodding while her smile returned. “That’s not a problem, Sir. I am sure that my boss will be willing to hear what you have come for. Certainly, you are here for business.” “Sure!” Brian nodded, and that seemed like what the lady wanted to say. “Good.” Winnie cleared her throat, and then she began to type on the keyboard. “I just need to be certain that Mr. Benson has no appointment at this time. He could be in a meeting, who knows.” She slowly lifted her face, her eyes demanding a response. “What’s your name, Sir? I would need to tell Mr. Benson. I am sure that will make him see you faster.” “Oh…” Brian stepped forward, and then he cleared his throat. “Tell him Brian Regal is here to see him…” “Brian Re…” Winnie stopped midway, slowly taking her hands off the keyboard. Her smile vanished, and a frown took over. “Excuse me, sir. Did you just say Brian Regal?” She hoped that Brian had made a mistake, but when he nodded, she was very disappointed. The lady hissed, and then she reclined to her seat, shaking her head disappointedly. “Is there a problem?” Brian dared to ask even though the obvious was smeared on the face of the receptionist. Winnie was silent, but the disdain in her eyes was still glittering. Brian stared at her for a few seconds, and then he cleared his throat. “Miss? I thought you were about to inform your boss that someone is here to see him.” “Not until I found out who you truly are,” Winnie responded rudely, discarding all the admiration and respect she had for Brian. She threw everything to the mud, rolling her eyes at him. “You should have started with that the moment you walked into this place. You shouldn’t have wasted my time. Brian Regal.” She said the name with so much scorn, glaring at Brian like he had stolen something very important from her. Brian took a deep breath, and then he stepped backward. “It seems you know who I am.” “Who doesn’t?” Winnie retorted, then she scoffed. “You are the loser who couldn’t handle his business. You were so incompetent that you had to sell everything to my boss. All because of a woman.” Brian felt a sharp pain in his chest, and it didn’t stop there. It began to tighten, almost crushing his heart. It felt like his skin was losing its moisture, dried up by the spiteful words of the receptionist. He sighed heavily, getting a hold of himself. “Please…” His voice was cracked, and he had to pause for a while. “Could you tell your boss that someone is here to see him?”Latest Chapter
Admiration Withdrawn
“I am sorry. I can’t do that.” Winnie was quick to respond, then a snort followed.“I think you should leave, Mr. Regal. My boss is busy at the moment. He won’t be able to see you.”“But you just told me a while ago that he was less busy,” Brian argued, his face attacked by patches of frustration. “That was before I realized that he was too busy to see someone as unimportant as you.” Winnie didn’t hide her disdain. She looked at Brian like he was a piece of rag, glaring from the crown of his head, down to the sole of his shoes. It didn’t matter if he looked presentable or not, his name was a representation of failure and a man who had acted foolishly. Brian swallowed everything in good faith. After all, he was the one who brought everything upon himself. No one forced him to sell his company, not even to the highest bidder, but to the first person who offered to purchase it for a few million dollars. “I guess I deserve that.” He took a deep breath, yet his determination

Sharp Mouth
“You have to believe it, Arya. I just did.” Brian held onto his smile, and then he took a deep breath.“But why?” Arya couldn’t let it go, the intense desire to know the truth. “Let’s just say that I have finally found a purpose.” “Oh…” Arya pretended to be satisfied by Brian’s response for the second time, nodding with a deadpan expression.“I am very sorry that you were not invited to the celebration. But I am grateful that you did a great job. I will send you the balance once I am settled.” Brian chuckled softly, causing Arya’s expression to drop. The lady was already asking why he was laughing with her eyes. “Don’t worry, Arya. You can give me the balance. At the party.”“You are coming?” Arya inquired with arched brows, staring even when Brian nodded.“Yes. And I will be coming with some flowers for my future wife.” “But…” “You don’t have to say anything, Arya.” Brian stopped her before she could continue with her slippery voice, still holding onto his confident
Uninvited
Arya shook her head frantically, but the truth was the truth. It was hanging in the air like their breath, soaring all around her.“He is a nobody, Grandpa. Brian is my husband, and getting this deal wouldn’t have been possible without him.” “No…” Don Pedro retorted with a cold tone, pupils contrasted in annoyance.“You will bring no shame to the Kirk family, child…” He took a deep breath, then he breathed annoyance. “This…” He pointed at Brian, in search of the right noun to use. “This leech will certainly not be my grandson-in-law. You had better divorce him now that it is early.” “I agree…” Travis nodded, smiling as though he was going to get a reward for it. “I am sure that he would want to reap where he did not sow. That’s what wretched men like him do.” Brian slowly pulled down his right hand, returning it to his side.He inhaled sharply, ignoring Travis and turning to the old man. “I think you are mistaken, Mr. Kirk. I am not a nobody, I am…”“I don’t care.”
The Kirks
“Who are you talking about?” Brian asked with a soft tone, but when he realized that he wasn’t going to get a response by just asking, he decided to turn toward the same direction Arya was looking. He saw them. An old man probably in his early seventies, a young man in his early thirties, and six bodyguards who were bouncing behind them. The two men in front were dressed in the same tuxedos, looking like the old and young versions of each other. From the way people stared and pointed, Brian could already tell who they were. “Let me guess…” He slowly returned his gaze to Arya, catching sight of the worry on her face.“That’s your Grandpa, and your brother.”“You guessed right.” Arya let out a heavy sigh, yet she couldn’t attain relief.“I wonder what they are doing here, Brian. It’s been barely thirty minutes since the close of the event.” Arya kept on staring, but she couldn’t look either of the two men in the eyes. She looked above them, but that didn’t look like it was
The Response
“Hello.” Arya waved at the couple, a smirk plastered across her face. Pearl snorted, disgruntlement etched on her face. “Have you come to make fun of us?”“No! Not at all!” Arya shook her head, yet she refused to discard her wry smile. “Why would I do such a thing?” She asked silently, moving her eyes from Pearl to Romeo, and back to Pearl. “As a matter of fact, I have come to sympathize with both of you. Not every day do we get to see people get so disappointed and yet stand courageous like you.” She tutted continuously, shaking her head with a palpable sneer. Her words stung the couple as though a hive of bees had attacked them, their temper rising as they scowled at her. “What did you do to make Mr. Adkins put your name on the list?” Romeo asked, but Pearl interrupted before Arya could decide if she was going to respond or not. “Did you sleep with him?” Her voice was cold, her glaring eyes demanding an immediate response, refusing to even blink. Arya scoffed, and
