The couple continued staring at the familiar car, thinking that they had seen everything that was enough to upset them.

The vehicle parked right beside them, seeming like the driver had been instructed to do so in an attempt to look for trouble.

“Out of all the spaces. She chose this one.” Pearl tutted, contempt smeared all over her face.

She folded her arms and grumbled, rolling her eyes as she moved them to the backseat of the car.

The driver got down in a hurry and opened the door, and just as they had predicted, it was truly Arya Kirk.

She instantly stole the attention from Pearl, the lenses of the cameras turning to her at once.

The trail of her red gown followed her like burning flames, her feet stepping forward as though she owned the place.

She was both fire and ice, burning and freezing when she needed to.

Her beauty caused men to gasp, even the ladies were envious of her pulchritude.

Everyone had something to say, untired of singing her praises.

“She is definitely the most beautiful woman in this City!” Someone said from the crowd, and it was as if the person’s intention was to make sure that Pearl every word.

She grunted, gnashing her teeth in annoyance.

Arya was headed their way, holding onto her captivating and confident smile.

“Hello, Pearl…” She waved at the couple, and then she sighed heavily.

Pearl scowled at her, and then she bit her lower lips as though it were solution for the anger that pounded inside her tight chest.

“I didn’t know that Grandpa finally allowed you represent Link Tech. I thought your brother was his prodigy.” Her plan was to subdue Arya’s confidence, but it failed.

Arya chuckled softly, and then she nodded with a wry smile.

“Well…” She cleared her throat, and then glanced at Romeo before she continued.

“I have been the one working tirelessly to put my company in the list of the top ten establishments in Lakeville. My Grandpa knows that I deserve the honor.”

Huff! Pearl rolled her eyes and hissed loud enough to express her palpable resentment.

“Have I introduced you both to my husband?” Arya asked, causing Pearl to blink until she could no longer move her eyelids.

“You are married?!” She asked with wide eyes, her mouth refusing to shut.

“Of course!” Arya nodded, followed by a soft chuckle.

“Not everyone of us likes to frolic about with our husbands’ bosses…”

“Ex-husband!” Pearl corrected at once, growling at her.

“If that makes you feel better…” Arya sniggered, and then she looked back.

“Sweetie?! Could you please come say hello to these… fellows.” She looked at the couple with disdain in her eyes, but they seemed to be more interested to know who the husband was.

Even the press wanted to find out, each camera moving ahead of the others with fingers fastened to the buttons while their lenses were pointed toward the car.

For over ten seconds, no one showed up, and some people were beginning to think it was a prank.

“Where is the husband?!” Pearl asked, impatiently rolling her eyes.

“I think you are lying, Arya! You are just a bloody liar!”

“Am I?” Arya scoffed, still holding onto her wry smile.

The next second, the door to the Lamborghini opened, and everyone who had taken off their eyes returned them at once.

As soon as Brian stepped out of the vehicle, cameras began to take pictures of him, even some of the media agents pushed their microphones to him, begging for even a word.

Pearl’s expression fell, Romeo’s countenance dropped drastically.

They stared in disbelief, but the real shock was still coming.

Neither of them was still able to recognize the handsome man in a brown tuxedo and well-polished black shoes, not even as he was marching toward them.

Brian pecked Arya on the right cheek, causing Pearl to look away at once.

But she gasped as soon as she returned her gaze to take a second look at the supposed husband.

“You…!” She pointed, eyes bulging like they were about to crawl out of their sockets.

“Brian? Is that you?” Romeo pushed forward, looking Brian from the crown of his head down to the sole of his shoes.

“You… you’ve changed.” He remarked until he saw the annoyance in Pearl’s eyes.

He cleared his throat, replacing his expression with disdain.

“It doesn’t matter if you have gotten yourself cleaned up. An underdog is always going to be an underdog.”

Brian chuckled softly, and then he took a deep breath.

“I see you two are here to get yourselves embarrassed. Do you really think that you stand a chance at getting awarded the contract?”

“Yes! Of course!” Romeo gave a quick response, nodding at the same time as Pearl.

“Romeo knows the Manager of Prime Tech. they are childhood buddies, and he has promised him an undeniable spot.”

“Sure…” Brian scoffed, smirking at Pearl.

“What are you doing here?” Pearl broke the silence, snapping at him.

“She just introduced you as her husband.” She pointed to Arya, and then she rolled her eyes at her again.

“Yes. We are married.” Arya responded by showing her the diamond ring, leaving her dumbfounded.

Romeo snorted after a few seconds of staring at the glittering stone.

“That’s fake diamond.” He insisted, even when he knew he was lying.

“How can you get married to him? Do you realize that he is someone else’s husband? He is still married to Pearl here. Technically, until he agrees to sign the divorce paper.”

Brian sniggered, silencing his former boss at once.

Slowly, he lifted his face, and then he looked Romeo in the eyes.

“I still have no intention of granting Pearl her freedom, Romeo. Who says I can’t be married to two women at the same time?”

  • Admiration Withdrawn

“I am sorry. I can’t do that.” Winnie was quick to respond, then a snort followed.“I think you should leave, Mr. Regal. My boss is busy at the moment. He won’t be able to see you.”“But you just told me a while ago that he was less busy,” Brian argued, his face attacked by patches of frustration. “That was before I realized that he was too busy to see someone as unimportant as you.” Winnie didn’t hide her disdain. She looked at Brian like he was a piece of rag, glaring from the crown of his head, down to the sole of his shoes. It didn’t matter if he looked presentable or not, his name was a representation of failure and a man who had acted foolishly. Brian swallowed everything in good faith. After all, he was the one who brought everything upon himself. No one forced him to sell his company, not even to the highest bidder, but to the first person who offered to purchase it for a few million dollars. “I guess I deserve that.” He took a deep breath, yet his determination

  • Greeenfield Co

Brian stood in front of the tall building, both regret and annoyance simmering inside him. The company had been renamed from SilverLine Tech to Greenfield Co after he sold it in a desperate attempt to please his ex-wife. “All for nothing…” He muttered in despair, a heavy sigh escaping his lungs. Then he began to march toward the entrance, each step feeling heavier than the last. For some reason, the guards at the casement door didn’t stop him, probably because he was dressed differently- like a businessman or important personnel. They didn’t even recognize him, not even a glimpse of who he was. Brian continued moving slowly until he arrived at the reception. The young lady seated in front of the large screen was blowing hard on ballooned gum, biting hard even when she had sucked all the juice. Her fingers were clicking hard on the keyboard, but she had to stop when she saw Brian approaching. “Hello, Sir!” She said with a smile, her eyes flashing with pure admiration.

  • Sharp Mouth

“You have to believe it, Arya. I just did.” Brian held onto his smile, and then he took a deep breath.“But why?” Arya couldn’t let it go, the intense desire to know the truth. “Let’s just say that I have finally found a purpose.” “Oh…” Arya pretended to be satisfied by Brian’s response for the second time, nodding with a deadpan expression.“I am very sorry that you were not invited to the celebration. But I am grateful that you did a great job. I will send you the balance once I am settled.” Brian chuckled softly, causing Arya’s expression to drop. The lady was already asking why he was laughing with her eyes. “Don’t worry, Arya. You can give me the balance. At the party.”“You are coming?” Arya inquired with arched brows, staring even when Brian nodded.“Yes. And I will be coming with some flowers for my future wife.” “But…” “You don’t have to say anything, Arya.” Brian stopped her before she could continue with her slippery voice, still holding onto his confident

  • Uninvited

Arya shook her head frantically, but the truth was the truth. It was hanging in the air like their breath, soaring all around her.“He is a nobody, Grandpa. Brian is my husband, and getting this deal wouldn’t have been possible without him.” “No…” Don Pedro retorted with a cold tone, pupils contrasted in annoyance.“You will bring no shame to the Kirk family, child…” He took a deep breath, then he breathed annoyance. “This…” He pointed at Brian, in search of the right noun to use. “This leech will certainly not be my grandson-in-law. You had better divorce him now that it is early.” “I agree…” Travis nodded, smiling as though he was going to get a reward for it. “I am sure that he would want to reap where he did not sow. That’s what wretched men like him do.” Brian slowly pulled down his right hand, returning it to his side.He inhaled sharply, ignoring Travis and turning to the old man. “I think you are mistaken, Mr. Kirk. I am not a nobody, I am…”“I don’t care.”

  • The Kirks

“Who are you talking about?” Brian asked with a soft tone, but when he realized that he wasn’t going to get a response by just asking, he decided to turn toward the same direction Arya was looking. He saw them. An old man probably in his early seventies, a young man in his early thirties, and six bodyguards who were bouncing behind them. The two men in front were dressed in the same tuxedos, looking like the old and young versions of each other. From the way people stared and pointed, Brian could already tell who they were. “Let me guess…” He slowly returned his gaze to Arya, catching sight of the worry on her face.“That’s your Grandpa, and your brother.”“You guessed right.” Arya let out a heavy sigh, yet she couldn’t attain relief.“I wonder what they are doing here, Brian. It’s been barely thirty minutes since the close of the event.” Arya kept on staring, but she couldn’t look either of the two men in the eyes. She looked above them, but that didn’t look like it was

  • The Response

“Hello.” Arya waved at the couple, a smirk plastered across her face. Pearl snorted, disgruntlement etched on her face. “Have you come to make fun of us?”“No! Not at all!” Arya shook her head, yet she refused to discard her wry smile. “Why would I do such a thing?” She asked silently, moving her eyes from Pearl to Romeo, and back to Pearl. “As a matter of fact, I have come to sympathize with both of you. Not every day do we get to see people get so disappointed and yet stand courageous like you.” She tutted continuously, shaking her head with a palpable sneer. Her words stung the couple as though a hive of bees had attacked them, their temper rising as they scowled at her. “What did you do to make Mr. Adkins put your name on the list?” Romeo asked, but Pearl interrupted before Arya could decide if she was going to respond or not. “Did you sleep with him?” Her voice was cold, her glaring eyes demanding an immediate response, refusing to even blink. Arya scoffed, and
