Daniel didn't move.

He stood in the middle of the master suite, his duffel bag still in his hand, staring at Liam like he was seeing a ghost.

"Liam... what is this place?" His voice was shaking. "The jet, the guards at the tarmac. They bowed to me.. What the hell is going on? Why are you in this massive building? Where did you get the money you sent to me?

Liam was by the window, in a plain black tee, his ribs still aching under it. He turned slowly to Daniel

“It's that the first thing you have to say to your best friend? Ain't you happy to see me?

"Liam please stop, I'm so curious!”

"It's mine, Daniel. All of it it's my inheritance"

Daniel let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "Yours? Man, this house is... this is bigger than a museum. You said your grandfather left you some money. You didn't say you bought Manhattan."

"My grandfather was Victor Cross," Liam said. "The Cross Group. Three trillion dollars. The succession was signed early this morning. It all belongs to me now."

Daniel's bag dropped to the rug with a thud.

He pressed his hands to his face. "Oh my God. Oh my God, Liam!"

He walked forward, his eyes red already. "Did the Vanes know? Oh stupid Diana! And you... you were a trillionaire's heir the whole time?"

"They didn't know," Liam said quietly. "I didn't know too, not until last week"

"And now?" Daniel grabbed his shoulders. "Liam, tell me you are going to make them pay. Tell me you didn't forgive them."

Liam's eyes turned cold. "I will never forgive them."

A knock came at the heavy oak doors.

Daniel watched as two men entered. The first was in his middle fifties, silver hair perfectly combed, tall, dark eyes that missed nothing. He wore a black suit like armor. Absolute corporate authority.

The second was older, in his early sixties gaunt and tall, silver hair, thin glasses, a calm, fatherly smile that didn't reach his eyes. Three-piece grey suit, pocket square.

Daniel stepped back instinctively.

Liam nodded. "Daniel, this is Gerald Holt. My family's Chief Executor. The only man my grandfather trusted."

Gerald stepped forward and extended a hand. His grip was firm, respectful.

"Daniel Park," Gerald said, his voice low and elegant. "Mr. Cross has told me everything. You paid for Lily's hospital bills when he had nothing and that you're always there for him. For that, the Cross family owes you a debt that can never be repaid."

Daniel shook his hand, overwhelmed. "I... I just did what anyone would do. He was my brother."

"Thank you so much for that," Gerald said.

Then Liam looked at the second man. "And this is Victor Aldridge. Senior board member of the Cross Empire. He served my grandfather for twenty years."

Victor smiled warmly and took Daniel's hand in both of his. His hands were cold.

"Daniel! What a pleasure. Liam speaks so highly of you. We have all been waiting for you. A true friend is rare in this world of money. Welcome to the family."

Daniel smiled back at him. "Thank you, sir," Daniel said politely.

Victor kept holding his hand a second too long. "You must be tired from your flight. New York is a cruel city, but for friends of Liam, it will be kind. We will take very good care of you. Come let me show you around"

Gerald's eyes flickered to Victor for just a second.

"Mr. Aldridge, Mr. Park needs to eat and rest. He just arrived," Gerald said smoothly.

"Of course, of course," Victor said, finally letting go. "I was just leaving. Liam, we will talk about the upcoming board meeting. There are... things we must discuss."

He gave Liam a small bow and left. The door clicked.

"Go," Liam said to Daniel. "The bathroom is there. Quick shower. I had them bring food."

Daniel didn't argue. Ten minutes later he was out, in fresh clothes they had left for him, a simple hoodie and jeans. He ate his food while standing up — rice and chicken with broccoli. fast, like old times, no luxury description. He was still the same Daniel.

When he sat down, Liam finally sat across from him.

“Liam, you promised to tell me everything when I come”

" Yes! I'll tell you everything," Liam agreed

Daniel leaned forward. "Okay!??"

"The day I arrived in New York, there was a war," Liam began, his voice low. "Vance's people tried to stop the succession. They stormed the estate. They were all armed and ready to kill. They wanted me dead before I could sign."

Daniel's eyes widened. "What? You were attacked?"

"Gerald and Victor handled it. But I was a little bit injured. My shirt that night... it wasn't just blood from my ribs."

Daniel clenched his fists. "And you didn't call me?"

"If I called you, you would have died with me," Liam said. "I needed you alive."

He stood and paced.

"Then today... Diana and Marcus came."

Daniel froze. "Diana? Here? In New York?"

"They flew here. They thought I was working here as a cleaner. As a janitor."

Daniel shot up. "Senseless fools"

"They went to the gates," Liam continued, his voice getting darker. "They demanded to speak to my employer because they wanted to get me fired.

Daniel's face turned red with rage.

"They... they did that? Liam, what's really wrong with Marcus?

They flew to New York to get you fired as a cleaner? That bastard Marcus!"

"Alot happened, brother" Liam concluded

Daniel couldn't breathe. "Tell me you hit them. Tell me you—"

"I didn't have to," Liam said. "The guards did. They were dragged out. Slapped in front of the gates like the dogs they are. They heard the truth before they left — that this house is mine. That I own the street they parked on but they refused to believe"

Daniel started laughing, it was an angry wet laughter.

"Oh my God. Oh my God! Their faces! I wish I saw it! They came to get a cleaner fired and found out he owns the city!"

He stopped laughing and looked at Liam, tears finally falling.

"I'm really happy for you brother, I can see you're a little bit happy, it being so tough for you but I'm that you finally found reason to live, in as much Lily is not here to share your joy with you. But what must be must be.

Liam's jaw locked. The coldest part of him cracked.

"Daniel... I'm speechless, I was so alone that was why I requested your presence."

Daniel broke. He covered his face and sobbed openly, shoulders shaking.

"I know," he whispered. "You don't have to be anymore, you can totally put your burden on me!

Liam, is there anything else bothering you concerning this new position you found yourself in?

Liam looked at his friend's worried face for a while before finally responding.

"Yes”
