Chapter 10: Absolute Domination

The silence inside the grand ballroom of the Grand Sovereign Hotel was so absolute that the soft hum of the central air conditioning sounded like a low roar. Hundreds of the city’s most influential figures—billionaires, real estate tycoons, politicians, and corporate executives—sat frozen in their seats, their eyes darting back and forth between Hector Cole and the young man sitting casually in the front-row VIP booth.

"Two hundred million..." the auctioneer stammered into his microphone, his hand trembling so violently that his wooden gavel rattled against the crystal podium. He wiped a bead of cold sweat from his forehead and looked directly at Caleb. "The bid stands at two hundred million dollars from the gentleman in the front row. Is... is there any higher bid?"

Hector Cole’s face had flushed a deep, dangerous purple. The veins on his temples bulged as he stood trembling beside his leather chair. The two hundred million mark wasn't just a high offer—it was double the evaluated market value of the North Harbor District’s operating rights. It was an offensive, ludicrous display of wealth designed for one purpose only: to crush any illusion of competition.

"He's bluffing!" Hector suddenly roared, his voice echoing off the high marble walls and crystal chandeliers. He pointed his left hand wildly at Caleb, his right arm bound tightly in its black sling. "He's playing games with this committee! Auctioneer, demand an immediate proof of funds! Look at him! Twelve hours ago, this parasite was a penniless delivery boy working for four thousand dollars a month! He doesn't have two hundred million dollars! He's trying to disrupt the auction to sabotage the Cole family!"

A wave of hushed whispers rippled through the back rows of the audience.

"Is that true? A delivery driver?" "Who verified his credentials to get into the VIP booth?" "Two hundred million cash is impossible for an unknown face!"

Sitting two rows behind Hector, Evelyn Vance—Chloe's mother—clutched her faux-pearl necklace so tightly the string nearly snapped. Her breath came in shallow, panicked hitches. She stared at the back of Caleb’s head, her mind spinning out of control. Two hundred million dollars? It was a figure so astronomical that her family’s entire peak net worth looked like pocket change by comparison. She prayed silently, desperately hoping Hector was right. If Caleb was truly bluffing, security would beat him within an inch of his life and throw him into jail. But if he wasn't... then her family had thrown away a literal dragon for a handful of dirt.

On stage, the chief auctioneer looked nervously toward the side wings of the auditorium. Two head security managers exchanged glances and began moving down the carpeted aisle toward Caleb’s booth.

"Mr. Vance," the auctioneer said cautiously through the sound system. "Due to the extraordinary jump in the bidding increments and the formal objection raised by Mr. Cole, protocol requires us to request a momentary pause to verify liquid asset allocation for bids exceeding one hundred million dollars."

Hector let out a harsh, triumphant sneer. "You hear that, trash? Your little play-act is over. Once they drag you out of here in handcuffs, I’ll personally make sure you rot in a cell next to your ruined father-in-law!"

Caleb didn't jump up in panic. He didn't even turn around to look at the approaching security officers.

Instead, he slowly crossed one leg over the other, resting his forearm on the plush velvet armrest. He raised his eyes slightly, glancing at Mr. Sterling, who was standing quietly three paces behind him.

"Mr. Sterling," Caleb said, his voice quiet, calm, and effortlessly carrying over the silent hall. "Show them."

"At once, Mr. Vance," Mr. Sterling replied respectfully.

The senior partner of Vanguard Legal opened his leather briefcase, pulled out a encrypted black metallic satellite terminal, and walked smoothly toward the auctioneer's stage. He placed the device directly onto the podium, swiping his master keycard across the digital sensor.

"I am Arthur Sterling, Senior Managing Partner of Vanguard Legal," the attorney announced into the stage microphone, his tone sharp and clinical. "My firm represents Mr. Caleb Vance and Vance Global Enterprises. Broadcast on the primary screen behind you is the live, encrypted escrow account holding Mr. Vance’s liquidity pool, verified by the International Central Reserve Bank three minutes ago."

BEEP.

The massive 4K LED screen behind the auctioneer flickered, transitioning from the North Harbor property map to an official banking interface bearing the golden crest of the Central Reserve Bank.

ACCOUNT HOLDER: CALEB VANCE ACCOUNT TYPE: UNRESTRICTED GLOBAL INVESTMENT ESCROW VERIFIED LIQUID CREDIT BALANCE: $500,000,000.00 USD STATUS: ACTIVE / UNLIMITED TRANSACTION CLEARANCE

Five hundred million dollars. In cold, hard, unrestricted liquid cash.

[Ding!] [Massive Collective Shock & Psychological Terror Detected from Entire Audience.] [Converting Mass Emotional Feedback into System Points...] [Received: +12,500 System Points!]

The entire ballroom blew up into absolute chaos.

Executives gasped, women clutched their chests, and several elderly board members nearly slid out of their chairs. Five hundred million in liquid capital didn't just mean rich—it meant top-tier oligarchy power. In the modern business world, even corporations worth billions rarely kept hundreds of millions in pure, instant cash without asset backing.

Hector Cole’s eyes widened to the size of saucers. The color completely drained from his face, leaving him as gray as a corpse. He staggered backward, his knees slamming into the edge of his mahogany chair, almost causing him to lose his balance.

"Five... five hundred million... cash?!" Hector gasped, his throat so dry he could barely formulate the words. "No... no, this is impossible... where did he get that... who is backing him?!"

The auctioneer’s jaw was practically hanging open. He took a shaky step back from the podium, bowed deeply toward Caleb’s booth, and cleared his raspy throat into the microphone.

"The... the liquidity of Mr. Caleb Vance is fully verified and cleared!" the auctioneer shouted, his voice cracking slightly with excitement. "The current bid stands at two hundred million dollars! Going once for two hundred million!"

The room was dead silent again, but the energy had completely shifted. Everyone was staring at Hector Cole now, waiting to see if the heir of the Cole empire had the guts to respond.

"Going twice for two hundred million dollars!"

Hector felt the stares of hundreds of elite peers piercing his back like heated needles. His arrogance, his family's reputation, and his own pride were being ruthlessly ground into the dirt under Caleb’s heel.

Desperation seized his mind. The North Harbor District was the Cole family's last remaining lifeline. If they lost this commercial license after losing Cole Logistics earlier that morning, their entire corporate alliance would collapse, and their creditors would devour them alive by morning.

"Two... two hundred and ten million!" Hector screamed out, his voice shrill and cracked with sheer hysteria. "Two hundred and ten million dollars!"

A low murmur swept through the room. Hector was bidding beyond his authorized corporate limit. He was gambling his family's absolute remaining reserves on a single throw of the dice.

Hector turned his trembling head to look at Caleb, a toxic, maniacal grin breaking across his sweaty face. "Bite on that, you bastard! You think you can crush the Cole family in a single day?! We have decades of accumulated foundation in this city!"

Caleb didn't even look back at him. He didn't check his phone. He didn't consult with his attorney.

He simply raised his hand again, extending three fingers.

"Three hundred million," Caleb said.

THUD.

Hector’s knees completely gave out. He collapsed hard onto the carpeted floor, his heavy body striking the base of his table, knocking over a crystal champagne glass that shattered into a hundred pieces across the red rug.

"Three... three hundred million dollars..." the auctioneer gasped, forgetting all formal decorum as he stared at Caleb in absolute awe. "Three hundred million dollars from Mr. Vance!"

Nobody spoke. Nobody even dared to breathe.

Adding ninety million dollars to a bid in a split second wasn't business—it was an absolute execution. It was a terrifying demonstration that to Caleb Vance, hundreds of millions of dollars were nothing more than numbers on a screen, easily thrown around to utterly destroy an opponent's spirit.

"Is there... is there any higher bid?" the auctioneer asked, his voice barely above a whisper as he looked down at Hector, who was lying on the floor, breathing heavily, his eyes staring blankly at the ceiling in total psychological defeat.

[Ding!] [Complete Psychological Collapse & Total Defeat Detected from Target: Hector Cole.] [Received: +6,000 System Points!]

"Going once... going twice..."

BANG!

The auctioneer slammed his wooden gavel down onto the crystal podium with a resounding crack that echoed through every corner of the ballroom.

"Sold! The 50-Year Commercial Operating Rights for the North Harbor Logistics District are officially awarded to Mr. Caleb Vance for three hundred million dollars!"

A thunderous explosion of applause erupted throughout the ballroom. Dozens of high-ranking corporate directors, CEOs, and political representatives immediately stood up from their seats, pushing past each other to try and get closer to Caleb's booth, eager to hand him their business cards and introduce themselves to the city's newest, most formidable titan.

Caleb stood up smoothly from his seat, buttoning his charcoal suit jacket. He paid no attention to the crowd rushing toward him or the applause ringing in his ears.

As he began walking toward the private exit hallway, his path was suddenly blocked by a shaking, weeping figure.

Evelyn Vance threw herself onto her knees directly on the red carpet in front of him, clutching at the hem of his trousers with trembling, tear-stained hands.

"Caleb! Caleb, my dear son-in-law!" Evelyn wailed, her voice thick with hysterical repentance. "I was wrong! I was blind! I was fooled by Julian and Arthur! Please, Caleb, look at how much our family has suffered! Your father-in-law is dying in the hospital, and Chloe is crying her eyes out at home! You were married to my daughter for three years! We're family, Caleb! You can't leave us to die like this!"

The surrounding guests stopped in their tracks, watching the scene unfold with quiet disgust and fascination.

Caleb stopped walking. He looked down at the weeping woman kneeling at his feet—the same woman who, just twenty-four hours ago, had slapped him across the face, called him a useless leech, and poured boiling soup over his feet while screaming at him to get out of her sight.

Caleb reached into his jacket pocket. Evelyn’s eyes flared with a sudden, desperate hope as she looked up at him, expecting him to pull out a checkbook or a stack of cash.

Instead, Caleb pulled out a single, crisp one-dollar bill.

He let go of the note. It drifted slowly through the air, landing softly on the carpet directly in front of Evelyn's knees.

"You always said my work as a delivery boy was worth nothing," Caleb said softly, his voice devoid of anger, holding only an icy, unbearable indifference. "Consider that my final tip for your three years of hospitality, Mrs. Vance."

[Ding!] [Extreme Humiliation & Soul-Crushing Despair Detected from Target: Evelyn Vance.] [Received: +5,000 System Points!]

Without another word, Caleb stepped directly over her outstretched hands and walked out through the double doors, leaving Evelyn crying hysterically on the floor as the surrounding crowd looked down at her with mocking sneers.

Five minutes later, Caleb stepped into the quiet luxury of his private penthouse suite on the top floor of the Grand Sovereign Hotel.

The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a breathtaking panoramic view of the glowing city skyline below. The skyscrapers, the bustling highways, the harbor lights—everything looked small from up here.

Caleb walked over to the glass, taking a sip of sparkling water as the system interface materialised before his eyes in glowing golden light.

Caleb’s eyes locked onto the third option: Physical Enhancement & Youth Restoration Elixir.

His sister, Lily, was scheduled for her critical surgery tomorrow afternoon under Dr. Montgomery’s care. While the top medical team in the country was handling the operation, having this system elixir as a guaranteed backup meant Lily’s recovery would be absolute and flawless.

"System," Caleb commanded inwardly. "Purchase Option 1 and Option 3 immediately."

[Deducting 30,000 System Points...] [Purchase Successful!] [God-Tier Martial Expertise Upgraded to Level-2!] [Physical Enhancement Elixir Deposited into System Inventory!]

Instantly, a warm, surging wave of energy rushed through Caleb’s bloodstream. His muscles tightened slightly, his sensory perception expanding to a level where he could hear the faint rustle of the wind against the thick tempered glass windows sixty floors up. His reflexes and physical combat capabilities had doubled in an instant.

His encrypted phone rang on the mahogany desk behind him.

Caleb walked over and answered it. "Speak."

"Mr. Vance," Mr. Sterling’s voice came through the speaker, crisp and urgent. "We have just received intelligence regarding the remaining leadership of the Cole family enterprise. Following Hector Cole’s breakdown at the auction, his uncle—Richard Cole, the commander of the city's underground security syndicate—has returned from abroad. He has mobilized over fifty armed operatives and is heading toward the North Harbor district to forcefully seize the warehouse assets before our takeover team arrives tomorrow morning."

A cold, sharp smile touched Caleb’s lips as he looked out over the glittering city lights toward the dark outline of the North Harbor docks in the distance.

"Richard Cole?" Caleb murmured quietly, his eyes glowing with an ancient, dangerous light. "He thinks he can play by underground rules when corporate laws fail him?"

"Shall I contact the regional chief of police to intervene, Mr. Vance?" Mr. Sterling asked.

"No," Caleb replied flatly, his tone terrifyingly calm. "Prepare my vehicle. I'll handle the underground syndicate personally."
