Chapter 1

“ aren't you tired of living in penury and lack? ” Vivian asked her husband Alex as she prepared to go out on a date with her new man-friend. 

“This place you call home is not worth it at all. We live more in a kiosk. This place is just too tiny. I am tired of living here” Vivian added. 

Alex and Vivian had lived together in peace and in luxury, not until Alex lost his job as a civil engineer due to a false acquisition of stealing. 

Alex now works as a cook in a nearby restaurant just to be able to cater for his wife and their 1-year-old daughter Jennifer. Things were hard and he was just managing to survive. 

“ where are you going to, by this time of the night, it is 10 o'clock ”, Alex asked Vivian as he carried Jennifer. 

“ Our child is just a year old and needs your care and attention now. She needs you around” Alex said 

“ I need to have fun and live the life I want, since you can't take good care of me, let me go out with someone who can fund my lifestyle,” Vivian said flatly as she brushed her hair, 

 She was already dressed in a beautiful metallic fashion dress that revealed some of her breast and most of her healthy thighs with zero cellulite and perfect shine. 

She applied her lipstick and was looking very beautiful for a night date. 

“ you know I will do everything to take good care of you, I am working on something,” Alex said as he drew closer to his wife. 

“ get away from me, this useless man, I can't be seen with a low-class man like you,” Vivian said as she stylishly shifted away from Alex. 

“ how do you intend to take care of me, with the penny you earn as a cook? “ Vivian asked as she chuckled. 

“ Anyways, my date is here, and I may not be back tonight”, Vivian said as she worked out of the house, not even saying a word to her daughter.

“ don't be heartless, you have a child here to look after,” Alex said as he dragged her back gently. 

“ I don't care, she's your child too, take care of her,” she said and hissed. Banging the door behind her. 

Alex tried to look out through the window to see who his wife was going out with, but couldn't because a Porsche-tinted car was parked outside, but he was sure she was going out with a man. 

Alex was left alone with his daughter in his hands, trying to put her to sleep. After putting his daughter to sleep he stepped out of the room to call his inlaw to report his wife's change in behavior to them. That was only what he could think of at the moment. 

‘Good evening  daddy’ , Alex said has he called his father-in-law. 

“ I have told you not to call me daddy,” I can't birth a low-class and good-for-nothing man like you,” Mr. Chris Smith said angrily over the phone.

“ What do you want this time again, if it's your usual habit of begging for money I don't have this time” 

Mr Chris said as he was about to end the call.

“ No, Sir,” Alex said softly 

“ Then what?  I am not jobless like you, I  have things  to do with my time or do you think working as a cook can be said to be a job? ” Mr Chris said with a harsh voice. 

“ I just want to report Vivian, your daughter, she has gone out, with an unknown man, leaving I and your granddaughter alone in the house, her behavior has changed “ Alex said softly. 

“ you are a useless man, you can't cater for  your family, do you expect my daughter to stay indoors with you?” 

“ When was the last time you took her on a date, flew her out for a vacation, or even bought her designer bags or dresses? “ 

“Sir….., Alex was short of words, and could barely speak.

“ leave my daughter to enjoy her life.  at least the life you cannot  give to her, some one else is giving her. Focus on fixing your life and taking care of your daughter. I was never in support of this marriage from the beginning, “ Mr said before he ended the call. 

The next morning came, and Alex woke up to see his daughter in a critical situation, he quickly carried her outside and stopped a taxi to rush her to the hospital. 

“ Nurse, please attend to my daughter, it looks like her condition is critical,” Alex said to the nurse as he was scared and crying.

“ Are you here with money, the nurse asked Alex as she looked at him with no sign of pity” 

“ We don't don't run a charity here in this hospital,”  the nurse said.  

“ I will make the money available, just attend to my little child, Alex said as he kept on begging the nurse. 

“ I know your type, irresponsible men, going around looking for free things. make sure you make the money available now,” the nurse said angrily.

The nurse collected Jennifer from Alex and went inside the hospital to run a test on her. Alex was so confused and did not even know what to do. 

He was just there waiting for the nurse to come out to tell him what was wrong with his child.  He saw a doctor with  about walking into the same room the nurse had taken his daughter into. 

“ Dr Albert, what is wrong with my daughter?  She was fine last night “ Alex asked the Dr Loudly. 

Alex could identify the doctor's name through the tag on his clothes.  

“ Calm down Mr. Alex, we will see what we can do about your daughter,” Dr. Albert said as he was about to enter the room where Jennifer was taken in by the nurse.

Dr. Albert came out after about 30 minutes 

“ Mr. Alex, your daughter needs to undergo a surgery, she has pneumonia, I'm sure this has been a result of too much exposure to cold,”  

“ Dr, can you go on with the surgery, I will do anything to get the money “  Alex said to do the doctor.

“We don't work that way, Mr. Alex, we will need $20000 to carry out the surgery. If you provide the money we will commence the surgery immediately " Dr. Albert said as he was about to leave. 

“ I don't have such an amount of money now,  where will I get such an amount of money immediately?  Please but just do everything in your power to make sure my daughter doesn't die” 

“ I will pay you Dr, “  Alex said as he was about to get on his knees to beg the doctor. 

“ I don't have time for all this drama, I only attend to people that have money, this is not a charity organization. When you have the money for the surgery let me know “  Dr, Albert said as he walked out angrily on Alex.

Alex was still there thinking of where he could raise money for his daughter's surgery. 

“ You have just a few hours to raise that money, so the doctor can commence the surgery. Your daughter only has a few hours to live,  her case is critical “ the nurse said as she came out of the room Jennifer was in. 

“ Please help me. Treat my daughter. Commence the surgery” Alex pleading. 

“ Go get the money! ” She shouted.

“Can I at least see my daughter? “ Alex asked the nurse. 

“ No, get out of my sight and go get the money, you this poor nonsense man,” the nurse said, raising her voice at Alex.
