Cassian was surprised by Isabell's statement. Although he was able to predict the enemy's movements and devise a war strategy, he could not have predicted that Aveline would want a divorce. It was beyond his reach.
He was disappointed that Aveline filed for divorce at their meeting after all this time. Apparently, she had a different idea about this meeting.
"Why are you doing nothing? Take these divorce papers and return them to me when you have signed them," Isabella growled in annoyance that Cassian was silent like a fool.
Cassian snapped out of his reverie. Unable to see, his hand fumbled on the table for the divorce papers. But he accidentally nudged the coffee cup, spilling the contents onto the documents.
"I'm sorry! I didn't do it on purpose!"
Isabella did not accept Cassian's apology and snapped at him, "You must have done it on purpose! Are you pretending to be blind to mess things up? I'm sure you expected Aveline to divorce you, so you planned this."
Hearing the accusation, Cassian felt miserable because he never once thought that Aveline would divorce him. The first person he thought of after the war was over was her.
It hurt because it turned out that Aveline did not share the same feelings with him. He always cared for her even when he was on the battlefield, as evidenced by his efforts to help her succeed in her business.
He never contacted Aveline to reveal the truth because the enemy could have targeted her. As a result, he did everything in secret.
"I didn't fake anything," he defended himself. "I have no intention of messing up the divorce papers."
Aveline felt terrible that the meeting after three years had turned out this badly. She had anticipated her relationship with Cassian to be bad from the start.
But she did not imagine their first meeting would be such a mess. First, Cassian confessed that he was blind, something she never expected. And now, the divorce papers she finally got with great difficulty were messed up by him.
After the passing of her grandfather a year ago, she applied for a divorce, but the government kept rejecting it. Only three days ago was the divorce finally approved.
She could not stand Cassian not trying to contact her at all. Moreover, her fashion business was becoming more and more popular. If Cassian brought nasty gossip to her brand, she could lose a lot.
"I believe you really can't see," Aveline said, looking at the blind stick Cassian had held since the beginning.
Even if he did pretend to be blind, it was pointless because she was going to divorce him no matter what.
"Please state your divorce demands. I will try to fulfill them."
Cassian smiled wryly. "Do we have to divorce?"
Aveline did not respond to his question. Instead, it was Isabella who provided the answer.
She sneered, "It's a must! In just three years, Aveline has become a famous businesswoman. You, an unknown soldier, are no match for her!"
"Give me a chance. I'll try for Aveline."
"A chance, you say? What can you do with those blind eyes of yours? A woman like Aveline deserves a better man."
Cassian was silent. Whether he liked it or not, Isabell's words did make sense. Compared to him, who had lost his power, Aveline was in a much better position.
She must need a man of equal stature to maintain her reputation as a businesswoman. If people found out she was married to an unknown warrior, they would ridicule her.
Three days ago, Cassian was still a God of War that everyone in the country respected and looked up to. But now he was like a homeless dog. He could not imagine he could be this pathetic.
"Fine, I agree," Cassian chose to give in as Aveline did not seem to want to keep their marriage. "I only want my home. My parents left it for me."
Isabella was mad again. The house Cassian wanted was a good property, so she would not let him get it.
"That house is worth a million dollars. You can't take it from Aveline. All this time, you left her with nothing but that house. Do you have the heart to take that away from her? You're a shameless man!"
Unlike the hotheaded Isabella, Aveline could control her temper well. Her secretary became so angry because many people tried to deceive her for their benefit.
She gave a sign for Isabella to stop talking. Staring at the dirty divorce papers, she spoke, "I will send you a new divorce agreement. I hope you understand the reason behind this divorce."
"Yes, I do. You're thinking of your reputation," Cassian smiled with a hint of irony.
"It's good that you understand. You just want your house, right? I'll take care of it."
Isabella let out a disappointed sigh. "You shouldn't have given the house away. Your ex-husband is likely to get you into trouble. Those annoying journalists will try to get information about your divorce."
"It's okay. Cassian is blind, so we should have mercy on him," Aveline replied with a smile.
Despite her calm demeanor, she worried about journalists revealing her divorce. They probably looked into Cassian's past first.
If they discovered he was a soldier who was not invited to the grand ceremony, people might laugh at her for marrying such a man.
"Find someone you can trust to read the whole agreement," Aveline advised Cassian before leaving the café with Isabella.
Now, Cassian was the only one left. The waitress scolded him for making a mess on the table with spilled coffee.
"Sir, I saw you spilled this coffee, but just let it happen. My boss could reprimand me if this table isn't clean before new customers arrive!"
But the look on her face changed when she noticed the blind stick and divorce documents, making her hurriedly leave after cleaning the table out of guilt.
Cassian left the cafe as there was nothing else he could do there. But a group of youngsters running from the opposite direction collided with him.
A young man clucked his tongue. "Hey, use your eyes properly! Didn't you see us coming?!"
"Shhh, look at that," the girl beside him whispered, pointing at the stick held by Cassian.
The others quickly noticed that Cassian was blind. They exchanged glances, smirking. One of them kicked Cassian's stick away.
"Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to!"
Cassian felt wry inside for losing his stick. He had to crouch and fumble on the floor to get it back. When he almost found it, the teenagers kicked it further away.
"Uncle, the stick is on your left. Move over there a bit more!"
"Geez, why do you keep losing it? We've already given you the right instructions."
"Can't you see it? Oh, sorry, I forgot that you're blind!"
Knowing he was being played, Cassian rose to his feet. "Kids, please return the stick to me," he requested gently.
However, the teenagers grew furious at Cassian's actions. They deliberately pushed him, but someone caught his arms this time, preventing him from falling to the floor.

"You can still be with me while caring for your family's business. I don't mind that," Cassian replied with slight confusion."I know," Elara tightened her grip on his hand. "But I want to follow you wherever you go, without thinking about anything else.""Still, they're your family. You don't have to go that far just for me.""We can build a family of our own in the future. Besides, I want to be the place you come home to. I saw you when you stepped down from that stage alone, Cassian. Can't we be home for each other?"Cassian fell silent. He did not expect Elara to leave her family to be with him. As someone who had lost his parents at a young age, he could not agree with her decision to walk away from Samuel and Hannah. But at the same time, his heart softened when she spoke about home. He did not really have one. There was no place in this world to which he truly belonged. The elders were there because he was the last descendant of the Valoric bloodline. The soldiers respected him
Chapter 464
Hannah hugged Elara tightly, knowing she would rarely see her again. Whether her daughter was returning to the military or following Cassian to a faraway place, Elara would not be around much anymore."You've grown stronger than I ever imagined. May every step you take be guided by the strength I see in you!" she said, holding Elara even tighter."Thank you for everything, Dad and Mom," Elara wiped the tears that had welled up in her eyes. "I will cut all ties with our family because I love you. I don't want bad people to target you, so I'm sorry if I can't see you again later.""It's alright, Sweetheart. We had already prepared ourselves for the day you would leave to chase what you truly want," Samuel replied, hugging both Hannah and Elara. He kissed his daughter's forehead several times, just like he used to when she was a baby. When he first held Elara in his arms, he felt like he never wanted to let her go. But as time passed, he understood that one day, he had to."I will come t
Chapter 463
Elara watched Cassian from a distance, her smile growing with every second. Before he became a Commander, he never seemed to contact his family like the other soldiers regularly did. He also rarely took any days off, as if he had no home to return to.Out of concern, Elara had gently asked him about his family. The answer he gave was, "I can't contact anyone in my family yet because I need to prove myself first. It's not something you need to worry about. I'm sure I can make them acknowledge me!"But even after he became a Commander, Elara never saw him contact his family to "celebrate" his taking over the military. He had sent a few messages to a mysterious number about his progress, but not to rejoice. The elders had high expectations for Cassian since he was the only one left from the Valoric family. But when Elara saw how they interacted now, she knew the elders truly cared about Cassian. She also believed Cassian felt the same toward them because he worked so hard to make them pr
Chapter 462
Cassian stopped in his tracks when the five elders walked toward him. He had planned to visit them after this victory because GPC would try to arrest him. However, their presence at the border was a surprise. They rarely appeared in public unless it was related to Valoric. Right now, Cassian was not announcing to the world that he was the last remaining descendant of that legendary family. In other words, the elders actually had no reason to be here."Are you alright, son?" Wendell reached out his hand as he stood in front of Cassian. That simple gesture brought Cassian back to the moment he survived the destruction of his family. Back then, Wendell had asked him the same question while carrying him away. He cried for weeks after losing his parents at such a young age.The elders knew little about caring for a child, so they would only feed Cassian when he cried. His lips twitched, holding back a laugh as he remembered how Elowen and Clarissa had tried to be substitute mothers for him
Chapter 461
The chosen soldiers waited at the border shore, standing tall as they looked straight at the sea. The sun had already set, and the lights that had been installed only illuminated a small area. The border was extremely dark, surrounded by mountains on every side. The smell of blood still lingered in the air, a sign that the infiltration attempt by the Narman troops had taken place not long ago. All of them had been defeated by the soldiers of Weltaria when they tried to force their way in. A large-scale war was avoided thanks to that duel.In the previous war, Arlo had refused the challenge of a duel because he held complete control over his country. But this time, it was different, as even his own people had grown tired of being used by him. As a result, the ongoing conflict was prevented and ended in less than three days."Everyone, get ready!" Ruth shouted when Weltaria's fleets were seen approaching the border. All the soldiers immediately stood at attention and saluted in unison.
Chapter 460
The people of Weltaria ran out of the safe zones, jumping in joy and hugging each other. They were speechless as they watched Cassian win. Their eyes stayed glued to the screen, stunned by the intensity of the fight between the two.It took a while before they were truly sure that Cassian had won. Grand General Ruth immediately broadcast the news to all media outlets in the country to assure everyone that the situation was safe.Once Cassian's victory was confirmed, everyone rushed out to make sure they were really safe. Soldiers remained on guard at every post but knew they would not need to use their weapons."The Commander defeated Emperor Arlo in a fair fight! No one will doubt his victory!" shouted a woman, throwing flowers she had picked from the garden toward the crowd."So we're safe now?" a little boy looked up hesitantly at his father. "I read in the news that Narman would not attack again because of the peace agreement. But they still did!"Ruth, who happened to be mingling
