Kevin’s mind and heart went blank when the mobile screen went blank and white.

“No, no, no…” He slapped the mobile with the other hand a few times and then wiped it with the towel.

If Brielle were to find out he damaged this mobile, she would use that against him for months, saying something like: He couldn’t even keep his mobile safe, so how could he keep her daughter safe?

The mobile did not respond at all.

Kevin put it in his pocket and pressed the light switch on the wall. He looked around for the cockroach, spotted it and waged war on it. In the end, he killed it and then flushed it down the toilet.

Kevin returned to the dining table.

“One cockroach in the house can ruin the whole atmosphere,” Brielle said.

Kevin glanced at her, very much understanding that she was referring not to the cockroach literally but to him.

“Did you kill it?” Orlando asked. He was Brielle’s husband. He was the second-in-command in the mansion, after Brielle.

Kevin nodded. “Yes, Uncle.”

Just then, Brielle’s mobile rang. She answered the call and then glanced at Kevin, “Emma called me. She says your phone isn’t reachable.”

Kevin nearly choked on the food.

Cecilia gave him a glass of water. After he drank, she gently patted on top of his head. “Eat slowly.”

“You didn’t answer my question yet,” Brielle raised her voice. “What happened to your mobile?”

“Uh, um…” Kevin took the mobile out of his pocket and showed the blank screen to her. “It slipped and fell in the water.”

“What were you doing when it slipped?” Naomi asked. She was the eldest daughter-in-law and someone who always doubted everyone before anything else.

Kevin looked at her and calmly said, “I was trying to catch the cockroach.”

“Oh, I thought you were doing something dirty in Aunt’s bathroom,” Naomi said.

Brielle’s eyes widened a little. “Talk such rubbish again, and I’ll send you to your dad’s home, Naomi.”

Naomi went silent after that.

“How is the new product coming?” Brielle asked. “The toilet seat, I mean. You are going to have to show the demo soon.”

Kevin did not want to talk about toilet-related stuff while eating, but he had to answer Brielle’s question. “We’re almost done. I will show the demo with the O’Brian Group this time, right?”

“Hmph, don’t even dream about it,” Orlando blurted. “You can’t put a toilet seat with our O’Brian Group’s products.”

Kevin frowned. “Why not? This gives me an opportunity to promote my product and attract investors. It’ll benefit O’Brian Group, too, Uncle.”

“Not happening,” Orlando didn’t even bother giving an explanation.

O’Brian Group was made up of many multi-millionaire companies, but the top five among those were related to food processing, furniture and wood products, construction materials, machinery parts, paper & packaging.

Brielle was the CEO of the food procession company with a revenue in the hundreds of millions.

Orland was the CEO of the furniture and wood products company worth over a hundred million dollars.

Their two sons and only daughter ran the other three companies.

Cecilia was the head of the paper & packaging company with a revenue varying between 20 to 30 million dollars.

They all had enough resources to succeed and thrive, but Kevin did not.

Kevin got up from his seat. “I worked on this particular project for more than four months. Please let me be part of the rest of the O’Brian Group’s products demo.” He lowered his head and bowed.

“No,” Brielle didn’t even hesitate to reply. “If you grow Serenity’s revenue to over 10 million dollars, then I’ll think about it.”

“Mom,” Cecilia raised her tone a little bit. “How can he succeed when you keep pulling the carpet under his feet?!”

“I never pulled the carpet under his feet, Cecilia. He did it to himself when he paid off his father’s debts,” Brielle retorted. “He’s not fit for O’Brian family, but I let him stay in our mansion out of kindness. Yet, he keeps asking these strange requests of me. Do you really want such an incapable man as a husband? Just divorce him.”

Kevin’s eyes broadened very much. “W-What?”

[Showdown System: Shit Model is live!]

A voice rang in Kevin’s head, startling him. He looked around, wondering who spoke those words.

He was covered in blood and was unconscious. They could still feel his pulse, so they called an ambulance.A few minutes later, the truck driver arrived at a secluded building and met an old man in a butler suit.“The job is done. There’s no way he would have survived that,” the truck driver said. “Give me the rest of the payment.”The old man pointed at his chest. The truck driver looked down and saw a red dot on his chest. His eyes widened to the max. But before he could run away, a bullet flew past the butler’s head and pierced through the truck driver’s chest. The old butler took out his mobile and called a number. “The car has been hit, Master Jack. The chances of him surv

The officer cocked the gun. “Any last wishes?”“Just one wish,” Kevin said. “Let me pray to God.”“You are going to him anyway after I pull the trigger, aren’t you?” the officer retorted.“You’ve got a point. Then let me at least tell you guys my bank password,” Kevin said. “I don’t want my money to end up in my in-laws’ pockets.”“How much money are we talking about?” the officer asked.“A million dollars,” Kevin replied. The two officers looked at each other. Greed immediately filled their eyes. The officer who was already pointing his gun at Kevin just shifted it to the second officer.“W-Wait,” the second officer was saying.BANG!A headshot killed him instantly.Kevin’s heart sank into his stomach.“I didn’t kill him, Kevin,” the officer said. “You did. Now, tell me the online password to your account.”Kevin swallowed his breath. “It’s a long password. Give me pen and paper. I will write it down.”“Do you think I’m foolish? Don’t try anything funny and say the password,” the off

The baseball bats, hockey sticks, chains, and knuckleduster punches rained down on Kevin from all quarters.Kevin’s focus, however, was only on the leader of the gang.Stepping forth, he dodged the punch of the leader, ignoring every other attack, and threw his fist which flew like a pistol. The leader’s nose broke, and blood gushed out as the leader got stunned and shook like a tree with no roots in the soil before falling to the ground. At the same time, many hits landed on Kevin, and he was badly wounded, too, but not to the point he wasn’t able to stand. And he kept standing and throwing punches left and right. His bare fists only targeted the opponents’ faces because he believed that would be the most effective. And he managed to land attacks on four men, but also got hurt by others in the process.Kevin was brought to his knee, and baseball bats pounded his back. They could have gone for his head and broke his skull, but that wasn’t their purpose. They were paid to cripple him n

Kevin took a gamble and said he was fighting Sariyu’s brother, hoping that they had some feud between them.It turned out that his guess was correct.Sariyu gave him a chance to explain himself, but only within one minute.Kevin did not talk for the first twenty seconds, but Sariyu watched him calmly.Ten more seconds passed, and she took out a gun from the table drawer and put it on the table.Kevin swallowed his breath.“I, uh, I… fought your brother the other day,” Kevin quickly said. “He came to my grandmother-in-law’s birthday party and openly coveted my wife. I confronted him and beat his bodyguards and made him leave.”Sariyu’s face softened a bit.“I don’t think that’s enough to crush him,” Kevin added. “But if I rise, then I will resist him strongly. I will become a handy ally of yours.”Sariyu glanced at the minute-glass. “Your time is up. Do you think you’ve said enough?”Kevin hesitantly nodded.“What makes you think I’ll be happy with you crushing my brother?” She grabbed

“I’m fired?” Kevin raised his eyebrows. “Says who?”“Don’t you know who I am?” she growled. “I’m the newest board member of Draknor Finance.”“That’s a long-ass name,” Kevin snickered.“My name is Sariyu, you fool!” she went for a slap, but he was quick to catch her hand.“Wow, why are people so eager to fight me today?” Kevin said. “The guard also raised his baton a minute back.”Sariyu’s expression changed. “You’re not the guard?”“Of course not. I am the CEO,” he replied, letting go of her hand.Sariyu’s eyes widened. “Y-You’re the newly appointed CEO? Did Jim Draknor already decide on the CEO position of Draknor Finance?”“Whoa, whoa, I’m the CEO of Serenity,” Kevin clarified.“Serenity? Never heard of it.”He smiled and gave her his identity card.“Ew? A toilet manufacturing company?” she tossed the card away and then started wiping her hand with her kerchief, then threw the kerchief away as well. “I can’t believe I touched literal trash like you.”Kevin’s eyes broadened in shoc

Later that morning.Kevin was driving to his office in his old Chevrolet car.“What is this golf club that Aunt Brielle was talking about?” Kevin asked the system. “Do you know about it?”[Yes. About five months ago, Jack Shamus bought the Grandview Golf Estate for 2.1 billion dollars.]“2.1 billion dollars…” Kevin’s heart started racing. “He also bought a big bank, didn’t he? What is his estimated net worth?”[Officially, it’s 40 billion dollars. But I can see that his real net worth is close to 100 billion.]Kevin’s heart nearly dropped. “H-Hundred billion! No wonder he was willing to give me a thousand cars like it was nothing. How am I supposed to compete with a guy like this?”He was starting to feel goosebumps. He still couldn’t forget his mother-in-law calling him a second-hander. Those words stuck in his mind and squeezed his heart. What hurt him even more was that he couldn’t say anything at the time. He couldn’t tell her that she was wrong.Though she was being very rude, sh
