Chapter 13

 For the first time in nearly a week,the rays of the sun actually pierced through the gloomy skies! 

  Yawn!

  Rubbing his still sleepy eyes, Ethan frowned as the rays of the sun shining through the blinds entered his eyes. He was just about to stand up from the couch when he heard the old man along with the two kids yelling.

  Instantly,he reached for the metal rebar. Standing up as wuietlyas he could,he made his way to the kitchen where the yells from earlier came from.

  Tiptoeing,he soon arrived at the kitchen door and when he was about to open the door…

   Swish!..

  ….it's was opened by someone all of a sudden causing him to flinch back in fear. Without thinking he raised the rebar high above his head only to hear an aged voice which he recognized as belonging to old Jack call out.

  “Stop!”

   Dropping the hand holding the rebar down,he peered into the kitchen only to see the two kids at the dining table with milk cream still on their lips.

  Observing the scene,there was nothing wrong here,the only thing was that the kids were having breakfast—if that was a thing”....." 

  It didn't look like there was anything wrong at all.

 With an expression that clearly said “Why were you guys yelling?" Ethan raised an eyebrow at old Jack causing the latter to start grinning like a pervert glimpsing at a young naked lady. 

 “Come,come,Ethan sometime all you have to do is to have hope!”

 Literally dragging him in old Jack feverishly brought him into the kitchen. 

   Still puzzled,he follows along and soon he was able to hear the sound of a radio blaring on top of the kitchen table,he could see that even the kids were paying attention to what was being said,their breakfast forgotten.

  He was astonished wondering what could cause young children like them to actually pay attention to boring stuff like the radio when he also heard what was being broadcasted.

    [“This is the first division of the renegade apocalypse battalion. I repeat, this is the first of the renegade apocalypse battalion. We are currently on a rescue mission to evacuate all civilians still in Barnes city. To make our work easier,hang a white cloth out of your window…..]

  “What the…!”

  Ethan was unable to hide his surprise as his eyes widened into the size of golf balls,talk about eating back your own words!

    “You see lad,in this life,no matter how bad the situation seems there is still always a way out…..” Slapping his thigh he continued.

“…Were saved!”

“Are we?” 

  However,Ethan thought otherwise. He didn't know why but he had this gut feeling that this rescue mi

ssion was not as simple as it seemed.

Santa Cruz,somewhere on the outskirts of Barnes city….

  “Boss we've finished clearing the monster,were currently gathering the loot.”

  “Hmmmm." 

  Standing at the back of a military jeepny was a middle aged man with a scar running through his left eye to his right chin.

  Technically,he had a scar running across half his face.

   With the gaze of an observer,a satisfied smile formed on his face as he watched his soldiers clear the battlefield.

  “So I'll also have the chance to one day become a ruler among men!”

  Clenching his fists in excitement,the scar faced man muttered to himself.

  His name was George Sanders an ordinary construction worker. As you might have guessed he was living a ‘typical’ ordinary life—go to work from morning to night,come back eat sleep and then go to work again,rinse and repeat!

   He longed for a change but sadly living at the very bottom of society without a proper education meant that he had very few choices available to him.

  Essentially he was doomed to a mediocre life!

  Then the apocalypse came and things became even worse,he couldn't count how many times he had nearly fell into the jaws of a monster.

  But all that was lock and he soon ran out of it.

  About three days ago,the shelter he was staying at was suddenly besieged by monster.

 How they got in there he did’t know,what he did know at that moment was that he was screwed. He was in the process of running out of the place when he was suddenly confronted by a monster that looked different from the others.

     Unknowingly,his fingers touched the scar running through his facial profile causing him to frit his teeth in anger.

  That bastard gave him this scar!

  Eventually he killed the monster but not after taking his own share of damage. His arms,chest and virtually every part of his body had already turned into bloody bits and shreds.

. He was supposed to die but then the universe decided to finalky give him a chance to rise as he received a life changing oppourtunity.

 Remembering what happned that day the excitement he felt washed over him anew!

  Grinning, he clenched his fist and what happened next was simply unbelievable.

  Wam!

  As if doused in gasoline his fist suddenly caught on fire,burning like a torch! The strange thing though was that there was no sign of his flesh burning or that he was in pain.

  Rather it seemed that he was pretty fine,ecstatic in fact!

  This was the opportunity….he gained!

  Releasing his fist,the flames from his fist dissapeared like it was never there in the first place.

   “Sigh….how time changes..I was once a lowlife but look at me now! Haha." 

  Grabbing a hold of one of the scantily dressed ladies next to him he started playing with her body while another brought a wine cup to his lips while yet another fed him with grapes.

Right then his right hand man strode into the tent. With his head bowed down he presented the information he wanted to report while kneeling down.

  “My lord,we are done with the battle over here and we await your orders.”

  Listening to his right hand man,a smug life couldn't help but find it's way to his lips.

  Thinking about it wasn't this the life he had always desired?

To conquer beauties and lord over men. 

To become a God over men!
