Eight

It's been three days already and Carissa, hasn't left her room. She communicated to the doctor who told her Sebastian, already started responding to treatment and he needed a kidney transplant. Carissa, went weak because, she couldn't discuss anything about Sebastian, with Mrs. Cherry. The doctor further let her know he won't be attending to Sebastian, anymore and will discharge him of instance because, Mrs. Cherry ordered it.

“Mother! Mother!!”

She stormed out of the room. After all, the three days been locked in the room was already over.

“Dinner is served.”

Grandma Hailey, spoke to Karen in disdain as she took her seat.

“I believe you already learned your lessons by now. If you loved to continue leaving here, you have to adapt to our ways. Kindly have your seat, there's a great opportunity ahead of us.”

Mrs. Cherry said, and Carissa, looked at her furiously, she would rather strangle her and go to jail rather than sit to eat at her wicked table.

“It will be a long search for the Leeuwenhoek regarding their missing son.”

Karen, spoke as she drank a glass of water.

“I discovered the Leeuwenhoek son, hasn't been around for the past twenty-seven years. I don't know how true this is, but the child was taken away from the father by her mother due to some unknown situation. Mr. Leewnhook seems not to know his son as well.”

Karen, spoke and everyone sighed. Just then, aunt Ava, climbed down from the stairs.

“I have booked a flight and I will be traveling to California for a business deal.” she spoke and Carissa, finally, had to take her seat.

“You seem mysterious to me, aunt.”

Karen, said and aunt Ava, looked at her with the corner of her eyes while she gave a smirk looking at her mother and sister.

“The world is deep, and why worry when you can be like everyone else. He-he just be the ruler of your destiny and people will consider it mysterious.”

She chuckled sarcastically while grandma sighed. Ava has never supported the affairs of this family right after Mrs. Cherry got married, a hidden secret they all harbor.

“An opportunity we will present to you, Carissa.”

Grandma spoke after sometime, glancing at Carissa, who was lost in her thoughts.

“Yes! Mother has spoken of that before you came.”

Karen added, frowning at Carissa, who isn't interested in whatever opportunity they speak of as her heart is greatly disturbed by another matter.

“Peradventure, the Leeuwenhoek son will be found, and if you indulge in this you might as well find him. We are developing new ways to strengthen our connection. So, you can as well forget about Sebastian, and focus on getting intimate with this unknown son of the Leeuwenhoek.”

“Is that why you asked the doctor to stop the treatment on Sebastian and discharge him? A patient not fully recovered do you know, Sebastian can die! Do you know his health status isn't favorable? You all have drained all of him, and now he is just a skeleton, waiting to be pushed down, so it could scatter into pieces.”

Carissa, raised her voice and queried in annoyance.

“Who doesn't die?”

Grandma Hailey asked getting up in annoyance.

“You dare not shout on this table!”

Mrs. Cherry thundered and Carissa frowned as everywhere went deaf in silence and the air filled with the aura of anger.

“ I heard the Leeuwenhoek son might have been found some minutes ago before coming downstairs. I heard in the news and blogs that, someone had claimed to see a resemblance to him, and he might be the Leeuwenhoek son.”

Aunt Ava, cleared the tension and everyone picked interest expect Carissa, who stood on her feet to leave and just then the door pushed open.

“Sebastian?”

She called in surprise, seeing him. She looked at the time. It was past eight pm, she wasn't expecting to see Sebastian here, so she frowned. He could have just run away, she further looked outside and could see a car driving out. Sebastian, walked forward, leaping on his legs.

“ What happened?”

She questioned, concerned about the way he was walking. She looked at his brutally bruised eyes, and it were an eyesore. He wore a black eyes glass but, she saw it through the corner of the glasses.

“It's a good thing you came, but so foolish of you as well.”

Mrs. Cherry spoke and Sebastian, glanced at her standing at the spot where he had been.

“You left this house for three days without my permission! You will have to return to wherever you are coming from.”

“Mother! It's late.”

Carissa spoke, not understanding what Mrs. Cherry meant by that, but it will be a relief on Sebastian.

“I do not understand Mother. You have asked that I be discharged, so…”

“You dare question me, Sebastian?” she walked towards him in anger. “You stinking individual. I have spoken just in case, you do not get it, you are leaving this house. I'm throwing you out!”

She mentioned, and it came as a surprise to everyone, not because they care. Once she said that, Carissa looked at the time again, while Sebastian, fell on his feet pleading with her.

“Please Mother, don't throw me out like this. I will do anything you wish of me, please Mother. This is the only family I have known…”

He pleaded, but the pleas fell on deaf ears as Mrs. Cherry already made up her mind.

“Mother, it's late into the night.”

Carissa defended standing in front of Mrs. Cherry.

“Your days in this home are over, Sebastian. Get out!”

“You have never added any value to our lives since you arrived for four years. So leave and get yourself more useless.”

Grandma Hailey spoke in disgust.

Sebastian, seeing that he couldn't win this time, dusted himself up and got up to his feet. Seems this is what fate has in store for him. He braced up looking at the faces of everyone, especially that of Karen, but she didn't care.

“I will leave.” he finally said.

“You should have done that long before now.”

Karen, spoke in a hasty manner, passing a document to her mother. Sebastian, looked at Karen and wished he could ask for a favor. His favor won't be granted, as he was hoping he take Karen along.

“Since I'm leaving, I wish to take Carissa along, since she is now my wife and the other… I'm only asking as a favor.”

He requested and aunt Ava, glanced at him indifferently for some reason, Carissa found it awful while Karen burst into an intimidating laugh.

“You couldn't ask of Karen. So good of you. I'm afraid, but you can't take either of my daughters out.”

Mrs. Cherry said and Ava seconded as that surprised everyone.

“Mother… The…”

“I am not your mother, loser!” She spoke rudely to him, handing him a paper.

“That's the divorce papers, and you will sign it before leaving. You claim to be legally married to Carissa, sign the divorce and let her have her freedom. Just so you know, a better opportunity awaits us after now.”

Sebastian took the divorce papers and stared at them while staring at Carissa, who looked in shock.

“Divorce papers?”

He muttered as they shook in his hands. These individuals have robbed him of everything.

“We are offering you a one million dollars to sign the divorce papers. That could help maintain your health at this time. Don't be so grateful, it's all Carissa's idea.”

Mrs. Cherry spoke and Carissa twitched her lips. Her mother could have easily given him the money without a condition now, she places a condition for this.

“I can't sign the divorce papers.”

She spoke and everyone looked shocked. Mrs. Cherry angrily stared at Carissa, and she moved forward to Sebastian, taking the papers from him.

“I will sign them.”

She said and signed the divorce just then, Sebastian's hope dashed. He couldn't believe even Carissa, could turn away from him, he thought she was caring. Maybe care isn't love now he is the loser, indeed that's what he is. He slowly watched as Carissa, ran upstairs without any further word after signing the documents and his eyes trickled in tears. Looking at the time, it was already eleven thirty into the night.

“Alright.”

He murmured and signed the divorce papers, giving It back to Mrs. Cherry as she smiled in satisfaction.

“May I spend the night here?” he asked meekly.

“No! These are one of your schemes. Here is the cheque, withdraw the money tomorrow, just get out of our lives.”

Karen, responded to him, and he walked out, being pushed away as the door slammed close on his face.

It isn't like Sebastian, knows anywhere in the city. He kept wandering that night looking for a comfortable place to lay his head he considered the orphanage, but, it's been a long time and it's far from his location at the moment. As he kept walking, the thunderstorm began and there was a heavy downpour to the earth. He quickly ran into a shop and hide there to avoid the angry rain mercilessly, dropping on him.

“It's all over now, for twentyseven years of my life, I haven't amount to anything not a child nor a name for myself.”

He grumbled as he began to feel cold and shiver. He wrapped his hands around his body. He did hide under a shade, but the rain wasn't merciful to him, it was too windy and it did vent his anger on Sebastian, body.
